What a great find and the building work that went in to it just shows the skill of the bricking in those days no plumb lines no spirit levels Thanks again Ian
That large block of cement in the doorway might be to limit the amount of troops charging the door, creates a funnel to allow the defenders to kill the attackers.
Great lines used to play in thes as kids , that concrete wasn't there when we was younger them tunnels stretched for miles , but looks like most of it's been bricked off
just found your films recently, very enjoyable, have been round quite a few myself up here in Scotland, and in Europe, got a week long trip planned for next yr in France and Germany.
Just a thought: could that concrete block that you wondered if it was an anti tank defence, could it have been for trucks to back up to so they could load / unload as the other side of it was an angled approach?
I know this place their is hinges on the wall where the anti tank block. As you stand outside and look at the block the hinges are on the righthand side and I believe it was for a door.
+Andrew Bruce would love to its finding someone with a boat to take us there lol don't think we could row it lol would make an interesting video though lol
It's from the Napoleonic wars era, according to description. Seems like there's been some modifications over the years though, like what he assumed was a tank blockade from WW2 (I think he's probably right - to stop vehicles moving through).
Those high arched ceilings would have been nice if someone were stationed there for a while! Avoiding those claustrophobic feelings would really help morale!
have you ever thought of bringing a metal detector along with you? all those places youve been to im sure youve stepped over some sweet relics in your travels...
That is a very interesting place. But it appears that it would be great at defending nothing much in particular from nobody that would bother to attack. Any idea what it was supposed to defend??
+Bloeski's Wrecking Crew just invasion barrier there's lots of places like this in the Medway area. you got Chatham dockyard and the river Medway which could have been invaded by the French back in the day :)
This is awesome, almost makes me wish I was back home what with all that cool history and stuff. Almost!! (I should clarify, I was born in Chatham but currently living in NZ)
+Tunez German army surplus clothing is soft to wear and hard wearing, I choose to wear in all new videos to stand out on UA-cam and a talking point which it really is lol lots of people seem to think its a political thing, but it's 100% not!
It's illegal to wear a countries BDU especially when you are not in service even for that country. Highly recommend you dress like a regular civilian or reserve member before you get in trouble with your government, they don't take stolen valor lightly, Walt, especially not Germany.
Looool That gear is sold in stores!!! If it was that illegal it wouldn't be allowed to be sold, stop being so pedantic and appreciate the exploration you fucking idiot
Sparks Nation That is not relevant... Any regular civilian wouldn't typically be able to identify whether or not it was fake. One way or another if someone is wearing a countries flag on their shoulder with a rank anywhere on the jacket, is giving off an intentionally false implication.
weird, I was meaning to reply on a different video, but then again on my ipad the youtube app has been messing about a LOT lately so I think for some reason it added it to the previous video I had watched (also one of yours though) :(
What a great find and the building work that went in to it just shows the skill of the bricking in those days no plumb lines no spirit levels Thanks again Ian

It's from the Napoleonic wars era, according to description. Seems like there's been some modifications over the years though, like what he assumed was a tank blockade from WW2 (I think he's probably right - to stop vehicles moving through).
