Once again, you have shared a delightful journey in difficult conditions. You have mastered the art of both the canoe journey and video production. A great treat to watch on a winter's day. Thanks so much.
Thank you!! Hoping to repeat it this Easter again...we'll see if the ice cooperates. Still 4 feet of ice inland but Superior hardly froze with the mild winter.
You and Erin are a ideal ambassador to the outdoor lifestyle. When you two are together, it's like some one wearing their favorite comfortable shirt. It's not perfect, it may be a little loose and I have a couple wrinkles. But most importantly, it fits perfectly and is warm and comforting. Just like your relationship with each other. It's nice to see you away from the insane portages through inhabitable lands during the worst weather imaginable. Thanks for the time and effort to entertain us.
Hey guys! I absolutely love all your videos. Watching them brings so much joy, especially during winter months. I can’t thank you enough for sharing. With that said, I have to say that it really blows my mind how irresponsible you guys are paddling on freezing water without immersion gear on. For god’s sake, buy a damn drysuit!!!!!! You guys paddled a fair distance from shore on a few occasions during this trip. There’s no way you would have survived if you had gone in. Every year we hear of people who underestimated what it means to swim in 3 degree celsius water without immersion gear on and DIE. You not only put yourselves at risk but everyone that may be involved in a rescue or recovery operation, not to mention the impact it would have on your loved ones. If you’re not willing or able to swim in it on purpose for the time it would take you to reach shore because it’s too cold then wear immersion gear. Sorry for ranting but this really blows my mind. Take care. Love you guys. 👍
Thank you Chuck for saying that in the most caring way possible :) Hard to make yourself pay $1000+ each for a piece of gear you don't want to wear, but you are completely right. It is life and death. Your comment got Erin and I talking about it again. Basically looking for the first Kokatat, NRS, or Level 6 dry suit to go on sale. Not sure about one piece or two though. Thanks brother
@@LostLakes Yes I was thinking that. Surely if you went overboard in water where the average temperature all year is 4 degrees, and you were in the water for anything more than a few minutes, without a dry suit, you'd be in trouble? It looks, from subsequent videos, though, (on Superior at least) that you now do the dry suit thing as par for the course?
Unfortunately Cold Water Shock can happen much quicker than we all think. My young cousin passed away 2 years ago due to Cold Water Shock in 50°F water, here in Washington State, usa. Zach was only 18. He was a really fit guy, champion wrestler for his high school. It took less than 60 seconds for the cold water to immobilize him. We searched the river for 28 days before we found his body. To anyone who happens to read this: please be safe, especially in cold water/weather ❤️

Great video, as they say 'Thanks for bringing me along'. I loved the crashing through the ice! And, good on you guys for dehydrating some food! :) Good too see people out this early in the season.
Thanks Kevin! Your vids were a big help for that. I don't have a pressure cooker for the chicken so it was a bit tough, but we're using canned chicken next time to get around that.
@@LostLakes Chicken is probably the most difficult protein to rehydrate properly. Canned and pressure cooked chicken rehydrates better but it still isn't always perfect. I'm happy to see the spike in activity on your channel. Let me know if you are ever interested in getting together for a collab video. If you are message me on my FB page. All the best!
for those that are interested, to dehydrate chicken succesffully you need to cook it in a pressure cooker and then shred it , if you fry, bake , grill it , it won't rehydrate well,
Hahah the Humber was not kind to me. Refusing to use roe didn't help but shouldn't have been necessary. Caught the only white bass of my life in there though lol
Great video, I'd have a dead smelt sitting on the bottom all day from shore, fist ice out lakers cruise the shallows and will scoop a frozen smelt up everytime. I've caught a lots of nice lakers doing that.
Funny enough, we only watched Waterwalker a week or two before this trip. Had no idea it was set on the Superior coast so that really got us excited. I've been in Marathon for a year now. Beautiful area.
You can see the trains and hear them from there . I’ve been there every few days for over 10 years on my way to White River with CP Rail . Not much straight track in around that area with a few tunnels. It’s difficult to see the tail end of your train over 7/8000 feet long. Now perhaps a trip around the islands at Rossport there’s lots to choose from. And you can always hide away from the wind. And good fishing with spoons just flat line. Thanks great trip. 👍🇨🇦
That's awesome...we've often thought that would be quite a nice train ride. Rossport is awesome. I did one trip there to Simpson Island in 2018, and if conditions cooperate this year, we might try a big trip farther along.

Just working my way through your video library. A comment about the moose sign on the beach. A moose took up residence there for some period of time during late winter early spring most likely. The marks on the trees appear not to be rubs. It looks like there are two parallel gouges in the cambium layer which are made by a moose's bottom incisors (they have no uppers) stripping bark and cambium for food when there isn't another source. Usually indicative of lacking better forage; often just to wait out the last of a hard winter. Rubbing off hair could be a sign of winter tick infestation which is an issue in the northeast state and provinces. I didn't see another suggestion, but one I'd make is that you both invest in dry suits for future adventures this time of year and the fall. Pricey, but a long-term investment in your well being and safety. Doesn't mean permission to be reckless, but as you suggested, one unexpected/un-anticipated move could spell disaster. I've done some early spring outings like this in my kayak and have self-critical for not minimizing my risk. It's another item "on my list." Enjoying your videos! I've spent much time on the south shore of Lake Superior on Michigan's coast and along Minnesota's North Shore. Waves are too big in Michigan for anything other than maybe kayaking. Thanks Tom! It's a paddler's paradise when the lake cooperates. I like it, but there's a rubber keeper for the handle which will surely burn eventually. At that point I'll remove the handle and use my pot gripper so not a big deal. I'd prefer no plastic and no handle, but otherwise it's good.
That rainbow trout would have been my dinner. I would have gutted it and sliced it into steaks. Throw those into the skillet with some butter, salt, pepper, garlic, lemon and maybe some dill, mmmmummm. That wish some potatoes, like some dried hash browns. I would sleep good.
If you ever want to make a trip down to Tennessee or one of the Carolinas I would love to take you fishing. The mountains down here are amazing. Just working my way through your video library. A comment about the moose sign on the beach. A moose took up residence there for some period of time during late winter early spring most likely. The marks on the trees appear not to be rubs. Great Content! That was a neat trick inflating your sleeping pad with the plastic bag. Is there a special adaptor or is it something you MacGyver'd?
Thanks Eric! It's an adaptor called the Therm-a-rest AirTap Pump Kit. I found it at a store called Ramakko's in Sudbury, and it can be a bit tricky to find in stock online.

This one seems to be popular as well.

Frig man! I was totally ready to head out for trout season opener. The park I was going to said a legit "NO'. Kinda wish I headed out anyway.
Hahah bummer! Which park was that? Must've been on the great lakes?
The Massasauga P.P. I don't blame them but I'll just be patient and go in another week.
Good call Kevin. Be safe out there
👍
I freaking swear that is Forrest From extinct or alive?
😂😂
I'm surprised you are not wearing gators.
I generally just commit to getting my feet and calves wet...less comfortable but less inhibiting for travel if you don't have to worry at all :)
Wish could of hooked a wife like yours!!
I'm a lucky man 😬
1:18. Is that a fake nose and glasses?
Hahah just my shnoz, looks kind of plastic-y though
Your don’t like your life buy a mustang suit
Good call Tim. It's on our list... Just a pricey item
