Great video. I’ve been looking at getting a Henry big boy in 45 colt and wanted to get into reloading so this was a very educational video. Cheers.

Great video -- I've found that I need to avoid tapping on the powder dispenser when dumping a scoop back in on my Dillon XL750. It seems that any time I rap on it hard enough -- the next charge comes out over, and the one after that, under. It settles in if I don't tap on it -- H335 will meter to the exact decimal again & again (e.g. 24.00 gn).

Thanks for the great video, the only things I do a little different are, I use a spray lube on my cases before I resize them, it makes things easier, and I also try to find at least two sources of load data, because I had a typo in one of my manuals a few years back. The Lee manual is definitely the best go to for reloading data though.

Just the video I was looking for, Thanks. I don’t prime using my press, I use a hand priming tool, to much of a chance of dropping a primer by putting them in one at a time. Love the video no shakey camera or weird music.
You forgot one important step, cleaning the primer pocket

Lol JH i did not forget to clean the primer pocket if I can see threw the hole of handgun brass I don't bother cleaning you don't need to every time. When I load my precision .308 I always clean pockets.

Always enjoy your videos. I reload 45 Colt with several powders. Unique, or W231 (8 gr) for my open top pistol (1851 clone). H110 (20 gr) for my rifle (24" 1892 clone). I've never used IMR 4227, but I see that it's close to H110 on the burn rate table, so I'm curious to see what kind of bullet speed you get with your pistol. It's always good to have powder options, especially now.

Big Ed, your reloading videos are great. You have a great delivery of the content and always get the information across and keep it interesting. I have watched them all many times and will continue so keep making videos for everyone to enjoy.
I recently picked up a .45 Colt so will be reloading for it. I live in northern Vermont so it's great to see you get to visit now and then. What part of the state do you usually spend time in?
Thanks again. I'll be waiting for all the new content.... Keep it coming!!!!!!!

Thank you for the great comment. I'm a huge snowboarder and Killington is my main Mountain, but I visit a few others every year, Sugar Bush, Stowe, Okemo, Stratton and Sunday River to name a few. Most of my video's are in the surrounding Killington area's. Also my long range .308 stuff is in Brandon VT.

What manual are you using I purchased a 454 casull a few months ago but plan on shooting a bunch of 45 colts through it. I’m in the same boat for finding the powder I want but I have quite a few pounds of imr4227. I’ve tried to find some load data using that powder and am having trouble finding data. Also do you know what kind of velocities your seeing with this load. I’m gonna load some hot 45 colts with h110 but also want some pleasant loads for some fun.

    • @biged7175
      @biged7175  2 роки тому

When I load light fun loads I don't care or measure velocities. H110 sounds cool for 454 I'd look at .44 Mag loads with H110

I got one of those Pietta New Army Target .44 n bought the conversion cylinder to shoot .45 ammo. Thing is i ordered .45 long colt ammo that r supposed to be pure lead but they sent me the jacketed type ammo. My question is can the jackets be removed from the lead bullet then reinserted into the casings??? Kind of a stupid question n probably better just to re order the right ones (not that i ordered the wrong ones - just got sent the wrong ones). Any input would be appreciated 👍

    • @biged7175

Thanks for this, there's a lot of good info. I picked up a Henry Big Boy steel receiver carbine in 45 Colt, and I'm tired of overpaying for ammo, when I can even find it. So I'm going to take up reloading. Carefully. I have the Lyman manual. Wondering if different manuals show different preferences, or if they stay pretty true to one standard line.

I'm thinking about reloading those 200 grain bullets but don't know what recipe I can do with Unique to load all of those 200 grain bullets?? Have any ideas? I'd like to do some cowboy loads with them.

Also when pushing "Ruger" loads remember the brass is the weak link as they were never intended to be pushed that hard. The safe bet is to use STARLINE brass as their .45 Colt brass has been tested to .44 Magnum pressures in gun systems suitable for such loads.

Wasn't 45 colt brass used to develop the 454 Casull? Heard the only reason they lengthened the brass on the Casull was so they didn't accidentally blow up 45 colts.

The bullet seating die should turned down to touch the brass case no bullet turn the die out 1 to 2 full turns and lock it down then use the seating stem to seat the bullet to oal. After you seat them all turn the seating stem out turn the die down to touch brass again and adjust down in 1/4 turns till proper crimp is achieved.

I have over 20lbs of Unique and a bunch of black powder and substitute I've had for years. I just picked up my first .45 Colt SAA and it's a new round so that means buying brass. My problem is that I can't find primers, cases, bullets or even molds. I just got a box of HSM anemic cowboy action loads, but I can't complain because finally after owning a gun for 4 months with no ammo I get to shoot it. These panic buying idiots are really annoying me. Most of them don't even know what they're buying; they're just buying everything in sight. It means deals 3 years from now when they're tired of unopened packages sitting in their closet but for right now I can't even complete one round.
