    hi really enjoyed your video and thanks for your email , my temperature gauge has not worked for years which is dangerous on a 940 TIC D24 DIESEL as they over heat very quick if you loose coolant i have adapted my coolant reservoir and connected it to the low washer bottle light for now so if i loose coolant my low washer bottle light comes on .i have swopped the dash for a spare one and still no luck ,the chap i got the doner car off said it didn't work either so it could be a common fault on my model car i will try again in the future now after watching your video . keep up the good work , i have done lots of jobs on my car .changed radiator, changed ABS sensor, alternator, brakes all round,sterring wheel, plus plenty more jobs over my 22 years with this car .
    regards jim

      Great idea! That's what scares me about running a D24, love the sound of them though! It could well be a dodgy unit it does seem to be a very common fault on these

    You did it again, those gauge clusters look like the 240, & the 740&760, as to the speedometer, there is a plastic part that makes the numbers on the speedometer move that usually breaks, then it will not work you type in David Bello, he has fixed those speedometers he has a you tube channel I believe it is Volvo restoration that will help you a lot

    Re Flow of Solder usually denies the need to add anymore solder .
    ie heat up locally with a Hot Air soldering machine and re flow the solder..

      @@Involvod they are a good stopgap solution when away from electricity.
      But for the job on that binnacle I'd advise to get a good temperature controlled one.
      That way you can insert heat much more controlled. That stops the flexcircuits and binnacle plastics from melting, burning or deforming.

    Soldering is a bit of a skill but now you have it you are all good. Ideally you don't use the iron to melt the solder you use the heat from what you want to solder, but you do need to apply a little solder to the iron to allow it to transfer heat well. A damp sponge is handy to wipe the hot iron to clean the tip. Good to see it working again.

    Super vid, loved watching you grow into the soldering skills. You do indeed need to first make the old solder melt before you can add new and it is a matter of learning to gauge the time you need to hold the iron there when doing that: never over-heat pcb tracks but also give it just enough time to flow and become one. Congrats!

    My 04 XC70 had...cluster issues. big surprise. Local Volvo repair dudes swapped a redone unit in with much higher km's on it, no problems since....Had them record on the invoice the mileage, and even the removed one had been replaced, it was around 10,000 more than the car has done, and was not even the correct cluster...I new the car had potential, but the seller has been known for issues for years, but somehow manages to stay in business...So, have the records in case.... why oh WHY are these clusters so poor in such a great car, it is the last item you might see as needing replaced....Aye well...You are getting there man, solder on....Sunday with Involvo'd...the habitual sit and watch....

      Thank you for this video. My 940’s speedo often gets “stuck” at 40mph, regardless of how fast or slow the car is going. Is that likely a fault with the cluster or the speed sensor? No other obvious electrical faults with the cluster, except the odometer moves too fast (registers about 2 miles for every 1 actual mile). Thanks again.

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  2 роки тому +1

      @@rajitdosanjh1533 I think I read somewhere that it's the speedo cluster unit itself, mine used to stay at 80km/h all the time, then it stopped and now doesn't work at all, soon I'm going to replace the unit and see if it works 🤞

After the 240 video where you replaced the littel plastic gear I thought it might be something easy like that, but given the fact, that the 940s cluster looks like it hasn't a speedocable but a ton of electrical wiring lets me think its more diffcult?
