Great episode. Thanks for seeing your formation flying and bringing back my memories of my own flying 'formation'. Years ago, I worked for Cessna and on a ferry flight back to MMU, three brand new new 172s made a 'loose' formation together landing at Indy right at sunset with our strobes, landing lights, and shinny airplanes. There was a group of people at the FBO watching and we got a standing ovation when we pulled up to the gas pumps. I wish someone would have taken a picture! But our best unplanned formation flight was later at a Reading Air Show (see how old I am). It was the last day and we were ready to 'get out of town' after long days of static display showing off six different SEL Cessnas. We were told the if we could hand push our aircraft thru the crowd to the end of the soon to be active RW there would be a 10 min window before they closed the field and airspace for the Blue Angels final show. We lined up with the fastest to slowest (guess where me and my 152 was...) in our own diamond formation. The tower gave us our clear to depart and we all rolled off together. The event announcer played it up as our 'flight' was part of the show. After takeoff we all broke our diamond formation and being the tail airplane, I got to see a great show!
My Father used to be an RC-Pilot and I have been with him when he was out to fly his RC-Planes . The first time it was back in the early 70ies . Eversince I´ve been interested in the Precision and Knowledge of Aerobatic . Especilally when it came and come to Formations Aerobatics . Although I´ve never started a career in RC-Modelplane-Flying myself I still adore Formation-Aerobatics . I´m a big fan of the big Teams from around the world as the Thunderbirds , Blue Angels , Red Arrows , Patrouille de Swiss , Patrouillie France , Frecce Tricolori and the Snowbirds . The Start for this Passion where the Christen Eagles Planes . Back in the early days there used to be several RC-Aerobatic-Teams in Europe which were flying the Christen Eagles in Team-Formations . They have always a real spectacular RC-Model-Airshows where those Teams appeared and demonstrated there knowledge to fly these Modelplanes in Formations . Thinking about these times it is really cool to see that the younger Gerneration coming up with a new Team . I feel soorry that we´re in Europe won´t be able to see them and there Display in reality . Further on since the huge Accident at an Airshow in Ramstein/Germany in the 80ies where on of the Planes of the Italian Display Team " Frecce Tricolori " crashed into the crowd of Spectators and more than 80 People had been killed and hundrets where siriously injured due to the burning fuel and the debris of that Plane in Germany there are no Formation Aerobatics allowed anymore . To see an Aerobatic Display Team performing we would have to go abroad like the Netherlands , Great Britian , Belgium or France . Little Critics are allowed , Dakota ? You should appear way more often in front of the camera so the people who are watching the episode get more related to who you are . While you doing the interwiev you should stand close to your interwiev partner . That relats us way more to you as the host of that show . Many greetings from Germany , Ralf :-)
I agree what a wonderful episode. Seeing all that from the view from inside the cockpit was outstanding. I can see why it sparks your interest in maybe being a part of that. I am sure Bobby is happy for you taking over flying Doodles, also wishing he would be doing it also from the pilot standpoint.
Eagle is a great airplane, Sadly a friend of mine was killed in his when they got into an inverted flap spin and they were unable to bail out. the canopy on the early ones would not open when inverted! Thanks for the videos!
Where's Dakota? Wow, Leland took over your show. LOL. Wonderful to interview such a positive and outgoing pilot. I have always loved the Christian Eagle. Fun video Dakota.
