I just think some people just dont understand how dangerous a horse can be? Maybe they just think its a cute animal? I am a city girl myself and my knowledge of horses is limited. They only reason I normally wouldnt get close is im a bit wary as theyre big. Thats just my instinct. I guess some people just have no instinct, and no sense 🤷

The fact that these horses are so well trained and behave so calmly as they stand there, must give these visitors the impression that this is like your pet dog and they can pet it and caress it, even kiss the horses - foolishness, these are working animals not pets!
Probably they are the same people who would get in the lions’ enclosure at the zoo to pat the nice pussycat!
The sad thing is the open gate was just a few feet away and they chose to remain at the front instead of seeing the people walk in and out.

I’m wondering what happened to the barriers that were in place recently. The barriers should still be there to protect the guards and their horses as well as members of the public. I think the barriers are essential.
But the people in charge don't think the same as you and they were only supposed to be temporary in any case.
It's a public footpath in Whitehall under Westminster council not MOD no room for barriers , they're only put up along the kerb for major events , marathon or protests . Any form of barrier would be potentially dangerous for horse and Trooper if the horse became unsettled and ran forward !

The way these tourists behave, they would more than likely ignore the lines. Just as they ignore the sign, there is no getting through to them.
I used to wonder why some people point or gesture towards the horse when posing. I’ve just realised they have relatives like this who apparently can’t see an enormous animal with somebody sitting on its back.

🤣🤣 I came to that same conclusion. also the leaning into the horse, bestof all is the 10 mins spent posing next to the horses using them and the troopers as props. They look utterly foolish. As for those 2 they consider themselves to be entitled, all gates closed but they are allowed to go through.

Some white painted lines around the sentry boxes asap to help people stay up to the lines are needed.
Looks like the sign is needing to extended to include a few more rules. Including; don’t enter the box, don’t pet the horse, & please thank the guards for the service. All this along with the warnings & rules already on the sign.

Right. It's good to try to look your best especially when going out but the showing off makes them look foolish.
I would love to know how many hours do the kings guard and horse work for one shift? What about a loo break? Do the guards live on site? Do they have 3 square meals a day> Are they allowed a family visit? Who is the worst Karen? (haven't seen or a cackle lately! ) Do you know all the bobbies names? They seem really nice. Very proud that you are serving the King.
I'm not sure exactly of the hours but generally they'd be up by 5am to feed and water, then groom all the horses in the stables, then muck out.Depending on their duties they may spend up to 4 hours posting guard(in full kit) or be working in the stables. Ofc because they're on site, duties don't cease when the yard closes. There's a guard on all night which is a roster. Plus ofc there's cleaning kit, and tack for the next day. All the troopers on duty at HorseGuards stay at the yard over their duty(unless they're in married quarters when they may not stay on site) Because this is a Barracks they're fed 3 times a day(the soldiers not the horses, the horses are fed too but I'm unsure of the number of feeds... Itd be at least 2 tho) As to loo breaks...nope, not on duty. Then again that's only 2 hours for the foot guards and 1 for the box men. Many of the troopers have family wives/gfs/parents visit whist they're on duty and there's several videos of family visiting troopers.

I would have loved to interview that woman to get her reasonings as to why she thought going through the box while occupied was acceptable behavior. We can all speculate on the reasons, stupidity, arrogance, ignorance, oblivious , etc. but only that particular woman has the answer. Perhaps there could be a “ man on the street” interviewer just as they have the photographers watching the horses and tourists.🧐

@marquitavanderh. I expect you have read by now that the horses are in the box for just 1 repeat 1 hour before change over. Horses often stand for longer than that when they are dozing in the field.Do horses have an imagination? Some of the horses enjoy their time on duty, others will let you know when they have had enough! A horses life in a field isn’t always a happy one, some times they are turned out into a field and forgotten. They do actually go on holiday, and they love to canter along the beach and go in the sea. I don’t think you need worry, you can see what good condition they are in by their glossy coats and well cared for hooves.
