**Listens to corporate demo** Yep, that sounds like a synthesizer alright. **Listens to Jexus demo** BEHOLD YE THE TRIUMPHAL VOICE OF THE UR-VERSE INTERMIND
The somewhat raw electric (if that makes sense.. It has it more than any other Sequential product to me) and clangerous tone (or is it perhaps a vertain instability..) of this thing shines through beautifully Jexus, thank you. I bow to the Synth Gods that this thing has fallen in your lap in a not too untimely fashion.
This synth has the grit! Sounds like a great bread and butter synth you can use in every record. I see myself buying it when I sell all other hardware I don't use...
Cant afford this synth, but from demos this is my favourite thing out there. In terms of just the sound it pkeases me more then a lot of moog one demos.
I've been saying it for a while now: this is the best sounding DSI/Sequential synth compared to the OB6 & Prophet 6. This confirms it for me. Sounds very lush, and not as bright and buzzy, which is how I find most sequential synths to sound (not in a bad way). This thing just sounds killer!
Nowadays the ‘quality‘ of a movie is obviously measured by the number of explosions. Luckily, in synth demos relatively few explosions occur - I thought until that 3:50 sequence.
Haha what a perfect timing you uploaded this. I stand in a great decision problem if to buy this machine. Was hoping for you to post a video on it since you got skills in programming synths. And now you release this video! :)
Wondering if your comments in sum-up of your review about the vintage sound of the Trigon not being being able to beat a Prologue or Polybrute mean ... a PolyBrute patchset and review are imminment? Curious, because for a while, was saving for a Polybrute. Then was tempted to save further for a Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave until I realised how much they would be in Europe. Now, kinda tempted to get a Take 5 and a Moog Grandmother instead.
Interesting tones from this classic design, yet diverse enough to have its own place... Funny that you've mentioned the graphics/wood choice on the synth as well, the whole layout was made by Scott Hansen / Tycho, and I'm with you, it came out pretty well and original :)
Everyone keeps saying how bad this synth is, and those everyones keep missing the point of this synth. It is a sound designers synth that can do things it does well, it has a better ladder filter than the Pro 3 so essentially a 6 voice Pro 3 in ladder mode. So we have a Moog 6 voice nod, and people still complain? Sounds great, thx for the upload.
@@Jexus hmm, just from what I have read, it's not a traditional 80's analog, which it was never meant to be. From the demos I have heard including yours, it's a much different synth than the others. I like the synth because it's different, I put it in the category of 3rd Wave, UDO and a few others. The guy that makes the Vahalla reverb, he was doing demos on Gearspace a while back when it 1st came out, he was showing us what it could do and it sounded excellent.
@@Jexus the main critisism seems to be twofold: A. It doesnt hold up to the Prophet 6 and/or OB6 and/or adds nothing substantial to the Sequential line-up. B. It doesn't hold a candle to the Memorymoog, to which it's compared because of the 6 voice/3 osc per voice/ladder filter architecture. To my ears it has plenty of character and versatility to be seen in it's own right, if a person prefers it over this or that synth is another matter entirely. It's on the top of my wishlist for sure. Besides some actually rediculously expensive stuff, but I digress..
Certain people only want re-issues of old synths. They aren't interested in anything new, different or innovative. These are the same people that buy Clapton edition Stratocasters.
@@NullStaticVoid I think it would be interesting to see a comparison between the Trigon 6 and the Polybrute given they are both modern poly ladders. But I think @nullstaticvoid is right - people are stuck wanting re-issues
What an amazing soundset, gonna pick it up next payday, thanks for making them It's an interesting looking synth, at first I wasn't too keen on it but now that I have it (at a weirdly discounted price, I don't think the dealer got the price rise memo) it's my favorite looking synth.
Hello Jexus, Your my favorit preset guru. If you, or anyone here, should describe the difference between Take 5 and Trigon in terms of sound only what would you say ?
Hi! The Take-5 seems to be a very capable synth so you can make it sound retro and modern, however, I would say it rather leans to a retro character type of synth and making retro sounds is much easier on it. Making more modern and more unique sounds requires a bit of mod matrix diving (not a bad thing as it enables you to get creative). Trigon-6 on the other hand has a rather modern vibe from the moment you switch it on. Of course you can go into the areas of retro / vintage / dirt / grunge (the last two thanks to its drive + feedback) but it's a "hi-fi" kind of dirt, if you know what I mean;) Does that answer your question?
i never jel with the ladder filter in the pro 3. the OTA is my go to.. i don't know if i'm just not using it in the right situations, or not. another awesome video from you as always tho.
You are just overdriving it too much with the osc volume. Use the ladder filter with all oscs mixed at 12 or less.. And disable the volume compensation. This way you will get the good feel of it. I quite matched all sounds from my GM on Pro 3
Very nice demo, Jexus! But I still miss that VHS "crappy" look :) Maybe there are some simulations in video editors? Could you add the names of these ( 3:50 , 5:50 and 7:05 ) movies, BTW? Some scenes looks that I definitelly didn't seen them. P.S. I've found a video "Turn Digital film to VHS using Blender" if you're interested! It's not a complete simulation but looks somewhere alike VHS. "Blender Tutorial: Compositing Film Effects" - is very helpful. It's more fresh and less long.
The crappy VHS look is too hip nowadays. Everybody's using it. That's why it lost its attractiveness to me. I like the guessing part so I'm waiting for others to guess the movies used in this video!!
@@Jexus Yeah, that's funny about the movies ) Personally I don't think that VHS looks is overused nowadays. Where? Only in retro-wave music clips maybe... Your reviews are unique and earlier you've used VHS... So it's a kind of "your brand" :) I watch your new reviews and they lacks that view and those crazy effects IMHO.

Yeah, sometimes I hint in my write-ups at this mythical "alltime best synth list", but to be honest I don't have one because I don't believe in that. At least in the word "best". I'd rather judge synths as "most fun", "most usable", "most unique", etc. The Trigon-6 is definitely one of the most easy synths to create sounds on.
