Me n my brother played the campaign soooooooooo many times back in the day and also the local multiplayer with just me n him plus the bots we would have so much fun
Thats crazy how historically accurate the uniforms are in this game! The philippines campaign mission displayed americans with outdated brody helmets just like they had at the start of the war! Also in cuadalcanal the marines have springfield rifles as their primary rifle, just like in real life too. M1 Garand was mainly given To army and later To USMC. The developers took their history lessons and made real effort, unlike modern game developers. Battlefield V for example........
Same as in MOH Frontline you see the SS camo uniforms and shit and theres differences in the US army it shows the Ranger uniform the 101st uniform The 82nd ariborne with the Flag armbands in market garden and even Sas paratroopers in the Arnhem mission
At 8:06 why does it say "California Defanded" mean while it was Hawaii under attack?? Also how did Japan fly there through the Atlantic or the Pacific?
Edward Kaplan You must not be into history, that’s okay. They were defending the ship the USS California. The Japanese flew over the Pacific to reach Hawaii.
Split screen bot match in the japanese baseball field. God bless those days. Was one of my very first games when I got my black xbox for christmas. EDIT: This was in Finland in late 2003
"oh my god, we lost the Arizona!" when I was a kid I felt so much loss at these words even though I didn't know what it actually represented. This game made me dive 20 meters deep into everything ww2
Same kinda. This was my first taste of ww2 games but then the following christmas I got CoD 2 for myself and that really made me realise what WW2 really was and kinda has had me obsessed since then.
the opening 2 missions is what made me love this game. so many feels, it literally gave me goosebumps watching this and remembering when I first played it.
I remember this game being so hard as a kid but this guy seems to power through it by walking right up to enemies with no tactical awareness and shit aim😂
Yeah it's not that hard at all on normal. I haven't died even once. Plenty of medical packs and shit. Enemies are handicapped pretty severely to compensate for shit performance and controller aim.
You just came back from school excited for the long winter break, mom is cooking food, there is a festive vibe in the air and you're playing your favourite PS2 Game♥️
I can’t believe after all these years I finally found the very first game I ever played again. I thought my memory of waking up in a ship and fighting to get top side was fever dream I had as a kid, but I still remember the first mission like I had just played it in my friend’s basement yesterday. Deepest of deep core memory unlocked.
This game was amazing! The way in which it told the stories of WWII without glorifying it was masterful, and I spent countless hours playing multiplayer with my brother when we were little. It may not hold up now (graphics-wise), but It will forever have a place in my heart
My favorite missions were: Singapore Sling - sneaking about, going undercover, running around a fancy hotel fighting angry chefs, Germans, and Japanese at the same time, jumping into a bus at the end...what could be more fun? Super carrier Sabatage: even though Tanaka dies and Shima gets away, it was a lot of fun exploring the carrier, and there’s just something poignant about the ending. Not knowing what’ll happen next, still feeling sad over Tanaka’s sacrifice, but you see the carrier exploding in the distance and know that you’ll live to fight another day. That you’ll catch up to Shima eventually, and make him pay for everything he’s done. Pistol Pete: Mostly because of the howitzer. The Burma missions were difficult, but also very rewarding. Derailing trains and exploring Buddhist temples searching for sake barrels. Good times haha
Loved this game. My great grandfather was a WW2 in British army European campain he never spoke to much about but when he did I always listened. Any WW2 vet deserves respect. Dale Dye at the end of the Pearl Harbor missions what he said was so true. This game is so nostalgic to me. We had a PS2 when I was really young (too young and uncoordinated to properly control a FPS game) and I played the Pearl Harbor level where you shoot at the planes with my dad. I couldn’t really do anything more complicated than that, so played the rest of it by himself. Years later our copy of the game was long gone and I had completely forgotten about the game, I got a pile of PS2 games at a yard sale, when I started playing this one, I suddenly remembered it and the nostalgia hit hard. Playing the rest of it, I can see that this was a damn good WW2 game for its time.

This and Medal of Honor Frontline played a big part in my childhood. I remember playing co-op with my dad. Some of my favorite childhood memories. I also realize that this taught me about WW2 long before I learned about it in school.
The Garand is surprisingly powerful in this game (though not quite as powerful as it was in Frontline). It can actually kill in 1 hit even without a headshot. The Garand in later WWII games was made much weaker sadly.
I loved playing games like this when I was a kid. Stuff like Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor turned me into a young student of WWII.
Also the revelation of the fact gunny is R.Lee Ermy makes me sad... I never finished this game when I was younger. Hearing his voice makes me miss him more. :(
I used to run around in the sewers just outside the baseball field and walk in the shit just to hear the splash. Doing that used to make me laugh *so* hard as a kid. Good times
I remember playing this split screen with my brother when we were kids and as far as co op fps goes it was ahead of its time! All the missions handled it nicely, and missions like the tank escort mission allowed one player to be the gunner inside the tank while the other escorted it from the outside, I remember escaping in the back of the truck we were both spraying and praying hanging on to life! Such great missions and memories.
Had a girl tell me, one time back in college, that she was sorry that I missed out on my child hood by not growing up with playing pokemon or watching dragon ball z. She was joking around of course but this right here, this, Airborne, Allied Assault, Frontline, the original Call of Duty, and history channel documentaries were my childhood! Still got my old game cube with my small Medal of Honor collection but haven't turned it on in over a decade. Edit: So I'm beginning to think that the GameCube version had a lot of cut content after watching this, wow guess I'll stay for the whole show.
My Uncle's father actually was a sailor on board the USS California depicted in game, He enlisted sometime in 1944 after the ship was repaired and fought at Saipan
My twin brother and I played this for hours back when we were younger! He has since passed away but this gameplay brings back so many memories with my bro! R.I.P. my brother Michael
This is my childhood game and it really has a special place in my heart, not just because I loved it soo much but beacuse this is the only game I played with my dad (He's still here). We had so much fun playing together and now all these years later I hope I can convince him to play another game with me haha
Rising Sun and Frontline really sparked my interest in WWII back in the late 90s, early 2000s! Since then, I have met Holocaust survivors, and Pearl Harbor and D-Day serviceman as well!
There was a comic book released after the game where the brother was freed and both bros lived happily ever after. Or at least the comic made it out that they did.
Was one of the greatest story lines I've ever played in a game. From start to finish this game was just filled with so much action. Back when metal of honor was better than call of duty haha
I caught my dad playing this game when I got home from school one day and I was so excited to see him actually enjoy one of my video games. I loved to just watch him play. If you got a mom or dad please go play a game or do something together. I'd cut my own eye out if I could see them.
I think this game and Frontline had the most realistic weapons damage. The M1911 and M1 Garand actually can kill reliably in 1-2 shots, while they were drastically weakened in later games sadly. SMGs like the Thompson and Sten were not as accurate, which actually makes sense, since they were originally designed for close range “spray and pray”. Weapons like the STG-44 and BAR on the other hand, work more like assault rifles and have both power and accuracy, but slower rates of fire. You just don’t see that kind of detail in modern games it seems.
This brings back childhood memories! I recieved this game for my birthday from my dad and I still have it. Very nice game and even today I sometimes play this. R.I.P Dad
For me the biggest change from MOH to COD, and was actually experimented with in this game, was checkpoints. Up until and including MOH Frontline, if you died in a mission, you had to start all the way from the beginning. In Rising Sun, the beginnings of a checkpoint system were introduced where you could save your progress in-game at certain points. Then Call Of Duty came out with automatic saving at checkpoints, and modern shooters were born. No more frustration of getting to the very end only to die and have to start over. And this game was doing that, in a way, even before COD. That’s what makes it so revolutionary.
Read! Literally 4K graphics have nothing on a good story and awesome gameplay. This new call of duty World War II just isn't cutting it and it sad that I find more joy in the game I played years ago then what I believe, could've been, an awesome game.
2:02:21 I love how this game despite being set in the Pacific added in a British mission, it's quite forgotten but the British and Commonwealth forces kept busy around 300,000 Japanese soldiers in the Burma campaign.
It’s not forgotten in Britain. My great grandad was a POW of the Japanese. They wished it had been the Germans… Also cool touch, in the Singapore mission you’re given a welrod, and early British suppressed weapon.
@@ilcorvo9559 Yeah that singapore mission was underrated as well, i love the drums music that comes on after you take out the Japanese soldiers in the street with the welrod.
After sitting here starting the intro, scenes of this game just flashed in my mind. I remember being extremely frustrated trying to unlock all the secrets and get the achievements. Fun game
Honestly the fact that this game still holds up graphically is amazing to me. It’s not 4K or anything, but it looks better than most modern day indie games IMO.
My entire life up until this point I thought that was R Lee Ermy voicing "Gunny" in this game. It wasn't until watching this playthrough that I realized its actually Dale Dye!
I remember the level at 57:00 , one of those holes that the people hid in had a gun you could pick up, it was the only one like it in the level. My mind was blown when I found it the first time because your so limited in this level.
"hope none of you ever see a day like this again...and nobody'll ever know what it was like, but maybe the ones who lived through it...you just be damn sure you don't forget the ones who didn't" despite how good this game is, danger close also did a really good job of subtly honoring veterans and late veterans within the plot writing, and what immeasurable horrors they endured during ww2 and pearl harbor, you never know how truly and definitively horrifying a tragic event was unless you were there i just remember that quote so vividly as a kid, seeing the cutscene of the naval ships destroyed and burned caused me to feel like i just swallowed a stone, it felt like i wasnt even playing a game anymore, chills everywhere...
I played co-op with my best friend in high school. Unfortunately he passed away too young. One day we will play again.... Love you and rest in peace, brother. ♥️
One of my all time favorite video games! I still remember the promo commercial and everything! I knew right away I wanted it, as I had been a huge fan of Frontline. It was a holiday release and I got it as a present for Christmas that year. Had a lot of fun playing co-op with my buddy
When I was a child I played it every day. It was and is my favourite game. An amazing game where the war is real and not fiction as nowadays. My favourite part is "Pistol Pete (spanish)"
I used to play this game with my father and little sister in the weekends that we stayed at my dads place. So much nostalgia, take me back to the early 2000s
Good to read people enjoyed this. This game wasnt for me. Unbelieveable that Frontline came first and this one followed... Great job stopping those first 2 torpedoes hahaha
Thanks for posting this. I never got round to playing the MOH games after the original and no longer even have a console anymore. Nice to see how the sequels turned out. I think the graphics are brilliant considering the game is 18 years old now.
Can proudly say my brother and I fought against the empire of japan thru this games co op story mode . One of our first Medal of Honor games that let us make that happen .
My childhood right here, my dad and I played this and had soo much fun.

They wished it had been the Germans…
Also cool touch, in the Singapore mission you’re given a welrod, and early British suppressed weapon.
@@ilcorvo9559 Yeah that singapore mission was underrated as well, i love the drums music that comes on after you take out the Japanese soldiers in the street with the welrod.
@@ilcorvo9559 I used to work with an older gentleman who's father was beheaded by the Japanese in Burma, horrific stuff.
Deym. This is so nostalgic. It's been 13 years since I last play this.
The online community for this game was great. Epic online matches.
Singapore Sling was probably my favorite mission in this game. Running around all stealthy-like with the welrod pistol was so satisfying
Oh yes, that was so special and exciting!
Great content. Keep it up!
This brings back good memories seeing this video, I use to play this game and completed all the mission, I just wish there's part two for this game.
Ahh when ww2 games actually had a soundtrack that sounded military based
I remember when I was five playing this it's still my favorite game to this day so much memories
I remember the level at 57:00 , one of those holes that the people hid in had a gun you could pick up, it was the only one like it in the level. My mind was blown when I found it the first time because your so limited in this level.
Its bren
@@cray5935 or the Japanese equivalent
My favorite childhood game, the game that made all us feel like a hero. Better then what all gun games are this year.
The main theme always shots me through the heart.
Thanks, Mr. Lennertz. You can score video games as well, not only cheesy fantasy TV flicks :)
When I was a Kid playing this game on the Third Story the first time that ever scared me was the Enemy Tank coming out of no where.
Omg, I remember that too! I was so scared that I needed to ask my dad to complete that scene. 😅
I loved this game
"hope none of you ever see a day like this again...and nobody'll ever know what it was like, but maybe the ones who lived through it...you just be damn sure you don't forget the ones who didn't"
despite how good this game is, danger close also did a really good job of subtly honoring veterans and late veterans within the plot writing, and what immeasurable horrors they endured during ww2 and pearl harbor, you never know how truly and definitively horrifying a tragic event was unless you were there
i just remember that quote so vividly as a kid, seeing the cutscene of the naval ships destroyed and burned caused me to feel like i just swallowed a stone, it felt like i wasnt even playing a game anymore, chills everywhere...
This game has the BEST soundtrack EVER!!!!
I played co-op with my best friend in high school. Unfortunately he passed away too young. One day we will play again....
Love you and rest in peace, brother. ♥️
Brothers forever❤️. Terribly sorry for your loss🙏🙏
They only have PC in heaven
That man singing at 2:00 has been in my mind ever since I watched my dad play this game back in 2002. Wow the nostalgia ❤
do you know what song this is?
@@0ne4tw0 that;s a Bob Hope song. I can't remember what it was
@@MrC-55 does she appear in a movie?
This game is so underrated.
One of the best WW2 games I've played.
Everybody that played this and other medal of honour games earned the title "gamer" without being toxic in multiplayer cod lobbies.
This does put a smile on my face
One of my all time favorite video games! I still remember the promo commercial and everything! I knew right away I wanted it, as I had been a huge fan of Frontline. It was a holiday release and I got it as a present for Christmas that year. Had a lot of fun playing co-op with my buddy
Best opening mission any war game has ever had
That’s a fact
When I was a child I played it every day. It was and is my favourite game. An amazing game where the war is real and not fiction as nowadays. My favourite part is "Pistol Pete (spanish)"
This is my first game on my ps2 , brings back memories
I used to play this game with my father and little sister in the weekends that we stayed at my dads place. So much nostalgia, take me back to the early 2000s
Fun game as a kid but now, especially as I have served myself, I can't help but think of the horror those poor men went through that day.
Lol you probably served in call of duty world at war. Stfu kid
I totally remember the chefs throwing knives at you in these games! So many good memories
Good to read people enjoyed this. This game wasnt for me. Unbelieveable that Frontline came first and this one followed...
Great job stopping those first 2 torpedoes hahaha
I remember playing this game on a PS2 controller when I was younger and being confused as to what the “jump”, “crouch”, and “actions” buttons were
We need shooter games with actual good stories again
This was my first FPS and the only one I had for a long time, awesome to see it again after a decade
I liked the Japanese soldier screaming like this: AAUUUUGGH!
Thanks for posting this. I never got round to playing the MOH games after the original and no longer even have a console anymore. Nice to see how the sequels turned out. I think the graphics are brilliant considering the game is 18 years old now.
I swear i played this game on GameCube if i remember correctly hell i wish i had my GameCube that worked oh the memories
Can proudly say my brother and I fought against the empire of japan thru this games co op story mode . One of our first Medal of Honor games that let us make that happen .
