Never in a million years would I think of that marie wearing yellow theory, and with how much symbolism they use with color on the show you’re probably right
I really like the idea of using different takes for flashbacks, which happens frequently in the show- memories look different, depending on our mood in the present.
I absolutely Love the Shot Of Saul pouring himself some tequila. It's his only appearance in the episode but it just summarises his role in Walt's empire perfectly. You just know Chuck is rolling in his grave right now.
I like the idea that Walter did realize Gale inscribed the book. When he see’s it while unpacking he practically laughs, as if the book reminds him of a gift from a coworkers, despite him ordering the killing of that coworker in cold blood. His compartmentalization and lack of self reflection throughout the series leads him to not even feel guilt or shame. Ultimately, it does such a good job of portraying decaying morality, and how people respond when their actions go without consequences.
I love how in the "Crystal blue persuasion" Montage, Walt Has finally achieved Victory, Is now Cooking every day and Making millions, with a partner that does everything he says without complaining, Skyler laundering the money, Lydia distributing, and Jack's gang as muscle, and yet he gets bored and quits The business for good. I think that shows very well how Walt Got into the meth business for the "excitement in your life" Hank told him to get, not money or success. "I did it for me" and all.
this makes me think of an alternate universe Breaking Bad where Walt "gets some excitement" in his life, by upon taking Hank's offer for a ride-along gets inspired to join the DEA himself
Honestly such a good point. Think about the resentment he had for 20 years, that he should be worth 100 million dollars if he stayed at Grey Matter. He could've been one of three kings at the top of the industry. And his prowess would've been celebrated, everyone would know they were beneath him (is how his pride would make him feel). That's why he fought so hard to be Gus. He couldn't stand anyone being above him. And he found it as a secret meth king pin. But the crux was that it was still secret. Only the underworld could know him that way, not his friends or family. He couldn't even celebrate it himself without exposing it and facing the consequences. It wasn't the life he wanted after all. He wanted to be praised like a God, and he got it in s way, but it still wasn't exciting enough.
Its like he enjoyed the proccess of climbing itself, not being at the top. At the top he had no competition left, thus no excitement was left in the business for him.
In my opinion, the peak of Walt's satisfaction was killing Gus, because he loves the thrill of being the underdog and outsmarting people who are "above" him. He certainly enjoys being a kingpin, but only as long as he has threats to handle or someone to intimidate. Now that he's done all that, there's no thrill anymore.
When Jesse says about the RV, "we had money, why did we keep it?" They kept losing nearly as much as they were making throughout season 2, by the time it made sense to buy a new RV they had already scored 480k each and then the two of them started to slowly fall out, it would've been Jesse's investment to buy a new RV for his solo venture, just for it to get tracked by Hank and then crushed at the junkyard. The RV actually did serve its entire inertiatic purpose in the series, buying a new RV would have been a waste.
Yeah that was my biggest recollection too was that every time they made money it seem like they just lost it or spent it due to unforeseen examples. All of that said certainly at many points in the show they could have put like 10 or 20K aside to buy something so instrumental.
When I first heard this years ago, I chalked it up to them just talking and remembering "the gold ole days." I don't think it was meant to be taken literally. Or maybe Jesse doesn't remember since we see him using a bong a few minutes earlier. You and @michaelcorcoran8768 are right though, they really didn't have enough money to get a new RV until it had long served its purpose.

@@betterwatchtv Last night before bed, this response popped in my head and made me curious if you planned to do El Camino as well? My fiancée and I are going to watch it for (her) first time this week!
When I first watched this episode, I read it as "Gliding All Over" and I kept thinking that Walt and Jesse were going to have to glide after jumping out of a helicopter or something. 😭😭
I'm glad you put together that montage of things Hank was probably thinking back to on the Toilet. I've always wanted to take a deeper dive into how devastating that was for Hank, and all the memories that came flooding back. So excited for next week's video
I don't think this counts as a callback, but Skylar keeping the money in a self storage unit always reminds me that cooking in one of those units was Walt's first idea for a lab in episode 1.
Good point! That always sticks with me, because if Jesse didn’t know they’d get caught, Walt would have been caught quickly and the show would’ve had a quick ending!
Such an amazing reveal, and I loved the way you edited the "moments racing through his head". Also, I always enjoyed Vince/Bryan's explanation of it. It truly is a mistake that shows even the most smart or methodical people can become careless and content.
By far my favorite episode of S5A!! All the call backs are awesome, both montages are amazing, we meet finally meet Uncle Jack, and the best cliffhanger out of any episode!!! Bad-ass!!
Definitely my favourite episode, from the montages to the references, I find it both perfectly portrays Walt’s would be happy ending as well as perfectly setting up season 5b. You should definitely add skinny pete's transition on hank's reaction to walt finding his tracker, also these videos are like crack to me, love from portugal
A theory I like is the fly in Season 3 representing the guilt Walter feels about Jane's murder, the fly (or the guilt) making Walter not able to focus on his work. So the fly showing up right after Mike's death is probably the same, except Walt isn't affected much at all this time around.
Oh, good! And thanks for validating my refusal to add him to Better Call Saul episodes! People can’t seem to get enough of him, but I’m trying to show restraint!
Rumour has it that the reason Hank was quiet at the end was because he was at risk of making another noise worthy of a Hankapella remix. So sad he has to live in constant fear
A guy called Larry Lawton made a video on the prison killing scene, one thing I found interesting is that he mentioned people would put their backs against the wall when taking a phone call as to not get jumped from behind like that. Also "Dead Zones" a place where there's no surveillance, you could get jumped in.
The better call Saul version of the "whacking bin laden" anachronism is in the series finale when saul is negotiating the terms of his sentence he says "as steve jobs used to say 'theres one more thing'" implying that hes already dead but the scene takes place in late 2010 or early 2011 and he didn't die until October of 2011

7:11 this shot is so funny at first because you think Walt just got bored of talking to Hank so he just decided to cook meth in their house Edit: at 14:53 there was no "it only has 1 bathroom" jingle like all the other times, sad :(
Something you didn't mention - There is a change in Walt's affect as lydia says "You don't think Gus Fring built his distribution network by himself?" especially at her very slight mocking tone saying Fring's name. Walt is sick of people talking about Fring like he's the Michael Jordan of selling meth in new mexico. Lydias slight derision sells him on keeping her around (as well as her other more obvious usefulness)
YESSSS the credits at 13:19 i love it so much. also, i love hearing what the creators had to say all the time i never heard their takes but its always a good time hearing their passion and seeing it through their work!
11:47 is one of my favorite moments in the entire show, the whole family just having a good time once walt finally settles is quite fun to watch too bad hank couldn't hold it in :(
my dad was watching BB live since season 2. i can’t imagine seeing that cliffhanger and having to wait a YEAR to see what happens next. i wonder how that changes the viewing experience, considering my perspective was shaped entirely by streaming. great work as always. i hope the new FCP11 update is making your skinny pete masking segments easier!
Super long time watcher, I remember seeing this series first when you were on like episode 2 or 3 which worked out so perfectly cause it was right when I was showing my best friend the show and I could act like I knew all of this just on my own haha. Finally have enough to spare to be a member and man am I glad. I've wanted to for awhile and am super happy to finally have the opportunity to join you guys, love the vids man
Also I could be completely wrong but I feel like in the next episode when Hank is staring down Walt his eyes have always looked different to me than usual, just wondering if there is anything to that or if I'm crazy.
@betterwatchtv ah yeah that makes sense. Oh by the way I might have missed it but I'm not sure if you mentioned the fly poster in the Walt/Jesse/Mike office yet? I always look at it when walter is tied to the radiator and it's another nice callback to the fly, which would be a nice member emote too. Maybe a bit too polarizing tho ;)
I mention it in the Fifty-One video… that Rian was worried it was too much of a callback! (It’s one of the videos taken down that I need to update.) I would have done a fly emoji but figured the standard one was good enough! 🪰🪰🪰
@@betterwatchtv I can't wait; it would be cool to go over hidden details in Better Call Saul eventually, while there might not be any film artifacts it would be awesome to see parallels between BCS and Breaking Bad
@@betterwatchtvshe should've just stuck to her regular old creme pie. 😂😂😂😂 Better one: If instead of prune pie, Skyler gave Hank a creme pie, like she did for Ted, Walt would'nt have had a problem with letting Hank go to belize. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Or atleast just ruin his career so that he doesn't become a liability to Walt... Bro I don't know what am I talking about 😭
Been waiting all week to get to see this one. I remember watching it live when it first aired, and the cliff-hanger ending with Hank on the toilet was so damn insane. Then we had to wait months for the second half of the season! What are we going to do when the series is all over? I wish you did Prison Break! Lol
I think this episode such a different contrast to when Walt was in his car and he learned that jane's dad shot himself with a gun and walt was trying to feel guilty but he changed the radio station and now in season 5, he just looks at the tv about the news of the guys he killed and he doesn't care to bother.
I love how you make me enjoy every single second of your video. Even the credits. I love the sing-song voice of the membership milestones and the inclusion of scenes is always funny
I like how it was a stupid mistake by Walter that had Hank finding out. Too many mistakes would be bad writing, but too little are too perfect as well. This way, the question was never _if_ Hank finds out, but when.
Somehow no matter how much I've spent on the show my dyslexia has always thought the title was Gliding All Over. This is literally the first time I realized I was wrong.
If you see this i want you to know just how much I love your channel, how well made these videos are, and how much I look forward to BCS and I hope there are other shows you love this much that have this much detail you can cover and I will watch every single video. Keep it up, absolutely phenomenal work!!!!
I doubt meeting with an ASAC but the sports team is a normal thing but I certainly give them some deference here. It does a good job showing Hank having to deal with these symbolic and community leadership type responsibilities. Even though he'd probably rather just go balls deep into a case.
My hypothesis is that the event had been scheduled months in advance and the team members were supposed to meet Gus... but then it was revealed who he really was and that also made Hank a hero so that's why they had him instead.
Something interesting that occured to me abt this series & Hank - he on more than one occasion in the series happens to mistreat someone, which later in the future ends up harming him when needed. Soon he will try to get Jesse to talk to him to get Walt, but due to a beating he gave him two seasons earlier, Jesse will be (at first) not cooperative at all. Similar thing happened much earlier in the story with Wendy, where the way he treated her in season 1 made her remember that in Season 2, and that earlier encounter was what triggered her to defend Jesse so fiercely. Early hank's mistakes with the treatment "low-lives" ended up hurting him later on
5:55 Little league teams are (or atleast used to be) “sponsored” by local businesses, law enforcement, fire departments, etc. Probably just a picture for a newspaper or dea website?
yknow, on a personal anecdote, thank you for making these videos. They're such a nice surprise to see after work -- especially today, it was _rough._ I guess I hadn't fully realized it till now, but I'm invested in this breakdown series big time. Thank you for that, man.
Regarding the Scotch on the rocks, I don't know if this is intentional, but that is also how Tony Soprano likes his drink. He regularly orders it throughout The Sopranos.
If only your channel and this breakdown series existed in the late 2000s or early 2010s when Breaking Bad was ongoing before 2013. Vince probably would have noticed.
I started getting recommendations to your videos about a month ago or so. I watched Breaking Bad as it aired and have rewatched it twice. I consider this a 3rd rewatch, I've seen every one of your videos and they are ON POINT. Every video has excellent production quality and your narration is excellent. Please keep it up!
Love your videos man! By the way, in the scene where chow is dead in the middle and Mike is holding that guy and the list at gunpoint, there’s a film artifact on the door.
1:41 i wanna know who keeps their towels directly above their lil stack of magazines. arent they all gonna get drenched? 6:08 im not from new mexico so obviously i dont recognize this _specific_ anchor, but breaking bad does one of my favorite lil touches a show/movie can do by using real anchors on real channels on real tvs. fake news broadcasts have always stuck out like sore thumbs to me, so i looove when something makes them genuinely convincing. 9:33 a detail i love personally is that walt's pile of cash, while obviously being huge, still feels "realistically" huge, if that makes sense. it would've been very striking if they went full joker and gave him a giant mountain of cash twice his height, but i think it would've come off as somewhat ridiculous in the grounded world of breaking bad. they kept the pile the perfect size to convey that he has more money than he'll ever need, but still believable that a real life human being _could_ have that much. 13:17 i loooooove the fact that walt's downfall stems entirely from this one tiny mistake. he could've easily lived the rest of his life getting away with it all (or at least most of it), turning a new leaf, spending time with family, being truly at peace before he dies, but this one iiiiiiitty bitty loose end was just the straw that broke the camel's back. i love vince's explanation that it wasn't even necessarily arrogance, just legit human error. i live for that shit.
💯 to all of that! The design of Walt's house was lacking in many ways! And yeah, I love how many "non-actors" they use across the board. It does make things feel more realistic, I think!
The scene at Jesse's house: I always found Jesse's unease at Walt in that scene very weird - the best I could think of is that it's classic stoner paranoia. The gun didn't really make it any clearer to me, but then when he's been picked up by Hank and Steve and he's going through all the ways he expects Walt to kill him at the plaza, I can kinda see how Jesse might've thought there was something explosive in those bags. I did think of the severed head thing as well, but then it's needlessly macabre? I'm not 100% convinced on any of this though
Yeah, maybe some of that, but he’d also have reason to believe Walt would kill him. Specifically hesitating when opening the bags seems odd. Maybe he just doesn’t want to see the money since it torments him?
Jesse knew Walt killed Mike. He even openly states as such, as Walter would never go through with the prison hit if he knew Mike was still alive. So, if Walter killed Mike, what's to stop him from killing Jesse and tying up all loose ends (besides literature) --- so I don't think it was stoner paranoia at all, but rather understandable and valid fear
Never in a million years would I think of that marie wearing yellow theory, and with how much symbolism they use with color on the show you’re probably right

Edit: at 14:53 there was no "it only has 1 bathroom" jingle like all the other times, sad :(
@@kirbdabirb5627 I think beat rice made that joke in his ranking video.
@TomEyeTheSFMguy that's right lmao
Haha! I thought about doing the jingle, but there are two of them right after, so I figured it would be too much!
Ooo, that’s a very good point!
Your videos are so amazing, I’m shocked that you’re not over 100K! Keep it up!
Thanks so much! The growth has surpassed my expectations, although I would eventually like the silver plaque!!
YESSSS the credits at 13:19 i love it so much. also, i love hearing what the creators had to say all the time i never heard their takes but its always a good time hearing their passion and seeing it through their work!
💯 Thanks!!
11:47 is one of my favorite moments in the entire show, the whole family just having a good time once walt finally settles is quite fun to watch
too bad hank couldn't hold it in :(
Hahaha
@8:02 I have no idea why but the Skinny Pete running joke keeps getting me the most!!! I love it! Thank you for these videos!!
Haha, thanks so much! The next video will have one with a twist!
are you gonna do BCS also? great vid!
No he's actually deleting the channel after this series unfortunately:(
@Lumiiify oh hell naah😭what will I do?😭🙏
I will do BCS next!
my dad was watching BB live since season 2. i can’t imagine seeing that cliffhanger and having to wait a YEAR to see what happens next. i wonder how that changes the viewing experience, considering my perspective was shaped entirely by streaming.
great work as always. i hope the new FCP11 update is making your skinny pete masking segments easier!
Right!? I can’t imagine either. Thanks so much! I haven’t updated yet! I’m a bit afraid to! 🫣
Hanks suprise face leaves rents free on my mind
Hahaha
6 months. And many more to go. Thank you so much for the details, facts and everything you are providing man!
🎉🎉🎉 Thanks so much, Sven!!
I respect that you included my comment about this episode having the most Breaking Bad per episode of Breaking Bad. ❤
Well it was such a great comment! Thanks again!
Aww, thanks so much! Welcome! 🎉 Yeah, I agree about Hank’s eyes, but I *think* it’s just the sun shining on them??
@betterwatchtv ah yeah that makes sense. Oh by the way I might have missed it but I'm not sure if you mentioned the fly poster in the Walt/Jesse/Mike office yet? I always look at it when walter is tied to the radiator and it's another nice callback to the fly, which would be a nice member emote too. Maybe a bit too polarizing tho ;)
I mention it in the Fifty-One video… that Rian was worried it was too much of a callback! (It’s one of the videos taken down that I need to update.) I would have done a fly emoji but figured the standard one was good enough! 🪰🪰🪰
Alright, you've convinced me to become a member, can't wait to see more!
Congrats!!
Woo-hoo! Welcome, Mr. Scott! Just in time for some Star Trek content next week!
@@betterwatchtv I can't wait; it would be cool to go over hidden details in Better Call Saul eventually, while there might not be any film artifacts it would be awesome to see parallels between BCS and Breaking Bad
only 8 episodes remain... been a great journey, and i hope you do this for bcs as well!! Lets get this done!
Thanks!! I will!
If Hank took a piss, none of that would've gone downhill from there
If only Skyler didn’t make that prune pie…
@@betterwatchtvshe should've just stuck to her regular old creme pie. 😂😂😂😂
Better one: If instead of prune pie, Skyler gave Hank a creme pie, like she did for Ted, Walt would'nt have had a problem with letting Hank go to belize. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Or atleast just ruin his career so that he doesn't become a liability to Walt...
Bro I don't know what am I talking about 😭
My favourite series on UA-cam, I’m always buzzing for the new episode
Thanks so much!!
Been waiting all week to get to see this one.
I remember watching it live when it first aired, and the cliff-hanger ending with Hank on the toilet was so damn insane. Then we had to wait months for the second half of the season!
What are we going to do when the series is all over? I wish you did Prison Break! Lol
Well next is Better Call Saul! Then I have a long time to think about what’s next! I also want to do Severance!
@ Just don’t do LOST because we all know that show sucks lol
i was really looking forward to this one, can't wait to see all the callbacks i missed :)
also it's really crazy how even then walt was considering poisoning her
Yeah! Definitely makes me think I should have seen the final one coming!
Walt feels no remorse staring at Jesse's birthday present
Yeah! 😞
Probably my favourite episode of the show, absolutely love everything about it, this video helped me appreciate it even more!
Awesome! Happy to help make that the case!
I think this episode such a different contrast to when Walt was in his car and he learned that jane's dad shot himself with a gun and walt was trying to feel guilty but he changed the radio station and now in season 5, he just looks at the tv about the news of the guys he killed and he doesn't care to bother.
Good point!
I love how you make me enjoy every single second of your video. Even the credits. I love the sing-song voice of the membership milestones and the inclusion of scenes is always funny
Thank you so much!!
I like how it was a stupid mistake by Walter that had Hank finding out. Too many mistakes would be bad writing, but too little are too perfect as well. This way, the question was never _if_ Hank finds out, but when.
Yeah, I agree!
Love this channel and community. All of us just collectively enjoying the series and its finest details with a positive atmosphere! ❤
Thanks, and I agree! Thank you for contributing to it!
The use of different flashbacks when he looked at the book could be to show how he has a slightly distorted memory of the time when Walt "confessed"
Yeah! They do that with most flashbacks and I love it! So subtle!
Just gotta say, I love these videos. Such a good format I’ve watched them all! Good work sir!
Awesome, thank you so much!
13:12 the only time it seemed to end without Hank finding out, he does find out
Hahaha
Look at me in a Walt Whitman book! Thanks for the dedication to this series, have enjoyed being along for it very much
🎉🎉🎉 And thank you again!
Somehow no matter how much I've spent on the show my dyslexia has always thought the title was Gliding All Over. This is literally the first time I realized I was wrong.
Oh wow! I’ve heard someone else refer to it as Gliding All Over as well!
Bruh I read this and wondered what was wrong. I now realise too.
I still have to mentally correct myself every time
If you see this i want you to know just how much I love your channel, how well made these videos are, and how much I look forward to BCS and I hope there are other shows you love this much that have this much detail you can cover and I will watch every single video. Keep it up, absolutely phenomenal work!!!!
🥹 Aww, thanks so much!!
It's over. He knows I'm the Bay Harbo- oh wait wrong show...
👀👀👀
Bravo, Mazuka!
great video!! love the editing on the callbacks
Speaking of editing, this ep earnt Kelley Dixon her only Emmy award for this show and the Gilliverse.
Thank you!!
Great callout about the Emmy!
Makes sense! Oh, the Gus thing is an interesting theory!
I can't stop thinking about the fact that I was in the other room hearing it live when you where recording
What does that mean?
Something interesting that occured to me abt this series & Hank - he on more than one occasion in the series happens to mistreat someone, which later in the future ends up harming him when needed. Soon he will try to get Jesse to talk to him to get Walt, but due to a beating he gave him two seasons earlier, Jesse will be (at first) not cooperative at all. Similar thing happened much earlier in the story with Wendy, where the way he treated her in season 1 made her remember that in Season 2, and that earlier encounter was what triggered her to defend Jesse so fiercely. Early hank's mistakes with the treatment "low-lives" ended up hurting him later on
Great point!
God, I feel like I get to do a rewatch with these videos, it's great
Thank you!!
5:55 Little league teams are (or atleast used to be) “sponsored” by local businesses, law enforcement, fire departments, etc. Probably just a picture for a newspaper or dea website?
Ah, okay!
yknow, on a personal anecdote, thank you for making these videos. They're such a nice surprise to see after work -- especially today, it was _rough._ I guess I hadn't fully realized it till now, but I'm invested in this breakdown series big time. Thank you for that, man.
Thank you so much! May tomorrow be a better day for you!
Am I the only one who thinks the credit music in this episode is FREAKIN' EPIC?
It is a great one!
Regarding the Scotch on the rocks, I don't know if this is intentional, but that is also how Tony Soprano likes his drink. He regularly orders it throughout The Sopranos.
Yeah, I have no idea but that’s a cool parallel!
This episode’s ending is one of my favourites in the entire series.
I absolutely agree!
Amazing episode and amazing video! Thanks again Better Watch TV!
And thank you!!
I think the fly represents guilt. It's Walt's first scene since Mike's death
That makes sense! 🪰
I keep checking the progress bar because i don't want the video to end. By far my favorite channel. Will you be doing BCS next? I for sure hope so!
Aww. Yes, I will!
Watching this episode for the first time ever was special
If only your channel and this breakdown series existed in the late 2000s or early 2010s when Breaking Bad was ongoing before 2013. Vince probably would have noticed.
Maybe!
alternate universe: Walt Whitman is actually a meth kingpin
I started getting recommendations to your videos about a month ago or so. I watched Breaking Bad as it aired and have rewatched it twice.
I consider this a 3rd rewatch, I've seen every one of your videos and they are ON POINT. Every video has excellent production quality and your narration is excellent. Please keep it up!
Thank you so much!!
Another great video! I never realised that callback to seven thirty-seven.
Thanks! It’s a subtle one!
Love your videos man! By the way, in the scene where chow is dead in the middle and Mike is holding that guy and the list at gunpoint, there’s a film artifact on the door.
Hmm, I’m not seeing it! The front door or the interior door?
Crazy episode ! Another great video sir
Thanks so much! 🫡
Your work is impecable mr, thanks
A billion (with a b) thanks!!
@@betterwatchtv Funfact, in Uruguay a billion (with a b) is worth more than what it is worth in the US.☝🤓
