No words can fully describe Matt Johnson. All I know is that he has been a massive part of my life. There is no other person in the world like him. Billions of people are missing out on this revelation.
Matt Johnson and David Bowie - Two of my all time favourite artists. Both have been with me for over 30 years and like many people I can align certain moments in my life with a certain track from them both. Impossible to put into words what their music means, but in some ways thats what makes music so powerful, that you can listen to a track and immediately remember a certain year and how you felt and for example being able to vividly remember how I felt a hot summers day in a camper van smoking pot and listening to The The helps which enhances and reminds me of the life journey I've been on and just how amazing life can be and to do all you can to keep it that way. Music is the key!
Matt is absolutely the only musician I could listen to in interview for hours. A brilliantly creative, erudite and intelligent guy who is also very approachable and down to earth. He's definitely the only artist I've evtenjiyed listening to discussing his art. I've lived The The for 39 years now ever since my older brothers mate played me his vinyl of Soul Mining. I was drawn in and hooked by the brilliant creativiand mystery of The The ever since. And I am a big fan of his cousin Peter as an actor. A brilliant actor.
fascinating interview. matt seemed in a much better mood than in some interviews :) great to hear there's a new song-based album in the works. the guy is intelligent, passionate and a master songwriter. we're lucky to have him.
As the decades fly by I wonder if he ever thinks about the impact and impressions have had on his die hard fans. I cannot express in words how his music helped my entire family for decades. His music was the fantastic tonic for the troops..We are now all old but still listen daily to THE THE..All 8 of us..He actually has saved lives..FACT...

Great to hear Matt reference two Pat McGoohan shows (Danger Man, Prisoner) as childhood musical inspirations... at least in the soundtrack sense.
