    Agreed, this looks way better than the current 390 and more like a rally bike.

    It's arriving a little too late to market as Royal Enfield and CFMoto have been collecting customers for some time now.
    As a 390 owner, I feel both if thdie bikes are too heavy to be called "small" or "light."
    This looks like it probably be heavier than the current 390, but probably well under the competition. - Frank

    I don't know how they make modern bikes so heavy. The first GS was an 800 twin with a shaft drive and steel tank and it was 167 dry.

      @@gasdive if you put the bikes of the 80's and 90's on a scale it's often another story. But, the 600-650 singles of that time were probably comparable to this 390. Back when aluminum was considered exclusive and triple clamps were cast iron, swingsrms were iron etc...

      You have to take into account that this, CFMoto, RE all are built to a budget that means heavier. Bonus of this is being a KTM is that there will be tons of light AL parts on the aftermarket. Also the 390 ADV is 172 wet/158 dry. This will be in that 175 wet range and I bet an extreme aftermarket diet could get it to 160-165.

    If Suzuki do release the rumoured 2025 DRZ with fuel injection and a wider ratio gearbox (at least), then this thing will have some very tough competition. Based on the DRZ patent, it looks like all Suzuki have done is add FI, changed the plastics and maybe updated the gearbox. None of that will make the DRZ as heavy as this will be. That said, I will not be selling my DRZ434E with a rally fairing.

    Why is everyone whining about the low exhaust? A KTM 450 Rally has an underslung exhaust pipe, just the end can is high, never heard Toby Price complaining about it? It's an exhaust pipe not a snorkel, it can blow bubbles to it's hearts content through a water crossing. No burnt and melted luggage though is a big plus.

    They've typically not changed much about the characteristics of the engine, and that was the biggest issue I had with it off-road (more than ergonomics or suspension). 1st is too short/aggressive, second is also short, 3rd will stall too easily. It's difficult to ride anything technical.

    Experience with the 2nd Gen Duke 390-2016 that actually is a 373cc is that the engine eats oil. Special 15W-50, no less. The piston is short skirt with only 2 piston rings. With a 12.2:1 compression ratio, it's 95 octane as per manual. Am using Petron Blaze 100. And it can't be used as a daily driver with moderate or heavy city traffic. It overheats very easily! Even with 70% Prestone coolant. KTM-Bajaj truly made it really "Ready to Race" with a TFT-boot up reminder. The newest generation (Gen 3) of this engine was revised to 399cc from info gathered. If it still has that ready-to-race piston with that 12.2:1 compression, requiring 15W-50 and 95 octane, its not a bike that will be no-overheat, low octane gas reliable. That said, it is impossible to have the pre-requisite reliability. The old 2nd Gen is definitely, utterly stupidly unreliable.

    • @SirOsisofLiver
      @SirOsisofLiver 4 години тому +1

      I had a 2017 Duke 390. No issues with oil consumption, no issues with overheating, though the engine did throw a lot of heat when sitting in traffic. I had it until 2023, and it was perfectly reliable.
      A buddy who did more commuting on his did the reflash and upgraded the cooling fan, and that solved it.

      @krisz6329 38 хвилин тому

      Spal cooling fan. Slightly adjust the radiator angle. Head cover check and straighten where the gasket sits. Change head gasket. Duke 390 gen 2 never tends to overheats anymore.

    Thanks for the spy shots, Solid. weird that that exhaust is so low, but maybe that's not the final product. Regarding weight, I think if they even kept it to 400 lb it would still be wildly popular. 30 plus pounds lighter than its competition and 50 lb lighter than a Tenere. Holy crap, didnt realize this a2 license power to weight rule… thats absolutely horrible.
      Actually - checked this out for the 2024 duke and it seems like a non issue. The 390 adv could go on a diet down to 165kg (same weight as the duke) and still be A2 ready. So plenty of weight to lose if ktm wanted to. Perhaps this rule is based on dry weight.
      Still since this model is based on the duke platform, who knows how light they would have made the duke if this rule didnt exist, and then the adv would be that much lighter… ugh.

    • @constantinosschinas4503
      @constantinosschinas4503 Годину тому +1

      @@Weltbummler23 If manufacturers wanted to be legal but also beneficial for customers, they would make the bikes light and then add weights where you could easily remove them (exhausts, tail tidy or whatever). But the problem i think is that they use the excuse and design cheaper and heavier. As if everybody with a full license want a 200HP beast and not a proper 400cc bike with long service intervals, grunt and lightweight. A2 riders, please wait a couple of years to drive the bike of your dreams and don't destroy the market!
      So if Duke is 165Kg and EnduroADV is on the same platform, the extra ADV parts raise the weight, which cannot be lowered due to the platform logic. Same with the simple enduro version which would nornally be max 130Kg in 2024... A 2009 KLX 250S i own is stock 118Kg dry with upside down, 29HP blatant reliability and long service intervals... Manufactured 16 years ago...

      @@constantinosschinas4503 yup the platform economics is gonna keep all the 390 bike’s weights high… furthermore what these lawmakers dont seem to understand is that heavy bikes can be dangerous for beginners, especially when taken offroad. I get that the lawmakers are concerned with putting 40hp on a bicycle but settting the threshold where it is now is outright dangerous.
      I wish solid would make a video about this beginner bike + heavy weight issue.

    I like how this guy mistakes rally bike for off road use bike. Those are almost entirely different bikes. Rally bike is meant to hold for a few hours and be almost ground up rebuild every evening. Off road bike is bike with off road capabilities that you can use with reasonable expenses on maintenance.
    Depending on how far you go difference can be somewhere between 10x and 100x the cost of maintenance. I mean on rally ktm's during Dakar they rebuild shocks super often, change oil daily, rebuild clutch/change plates daily and many many more major items like that. Those bikes are not meant to be ridden 2 days in a row without quite a bit of maintenance.

    I’ve had nothing but problems with my KTM single cylinders. This will be no different. It’s not like they all stood around the boardroom and said hey we really need to start making reliable motorcycles to appease the customer. KTM gives two shits about you. Their tactic is to lure you in with a aesthetically pleasing motorcycle and then leave you high and dry.

      Far from my experience. And I've done over 80 000 kilometers on two KTMs. Definitely among the most fun motorcycles I've ever owned, and either have I had any major issues with them. And I am not alone. And I disagree with your notion regarding luring. But KTM, like BMW a few yrs back, have to huge potential on both dealer and customer care side of their business. I'd be surprised if they've not seen the writing on the wall now.
