the touchbar actually implemented in 2014 thinkpad x1 carbon, but lenovo decide to scrap it for next generation laptops for obvious reason. apple doesn't seem to learn from lenovo's mistake, and claim it as "innovative".
Meanwhile in mid-2019, Apple is still busy figuring out how to fix its butterfly keyboard fiasco.

it can never be a gimmick because it acts like a second monitor and people have been using triple monitor setup for years for productivity.
As someone who use DAW, Photoshop and Illustrator, I AM SO TEMPTED.
I love how now Asus is experimenting with so many new and weird features in their new products: FlipCamera, ScreenPad, ScreenPad+... These things get people talking about Asus, make great headlines and make Asus stand out from the crowd. If these features are well received they're just gonna stick with them, otherwise they're gonna innovate once more. Great!

nah, it only seems like it...why? if you notice the laptop is really thick.. looks as thick as my gaming notebook... so really.. if you got an xps and a full 15.6" portable screen, it wouldn't take any more space than this thing in your bag and you would have way more screen-space... what would be great would be a thin laptop with one of these displays built-in

Yes it's my gadget match! And no I won't buy it for 3 or 4 grands; max $2700 and $2000 for i7 model.

$4000 acceptable? I think not... I would think if offered at $2999 starting, perhaps but that should come with awesome RAM for us who use AE.
It's 3300USD which is standard for these specs, without a second screen...

This Laptop is a changer for all students who are focused in making websites, edit videos, programming, graphic artist and moreee. I would love to have this. He is right! This is more productive. I'm sold! Take my kidney!
As for coders constantly travelling, it would be a ton helpful, you can have your coding editors down on the screen pad where you can tweak your code and refresh to check your changes on its big screen in tandem.
The game is changing. Asus now is on the top of the game.

1. Dual screen with OLED 4K Display.
2. Nineth Generation Intel core i9.
3. A new gpu with turing and ray tracing. RTX 2060 gpu.
4. Ram that more than enough.

A little like Macbook Pro with smart bar. But the screen pad is larger than smart bar. I think this is a nice try for ASUS. But is it really helpful for daily work. Hmm, I had doubt.

I checked some other reviews and you have an option to close the second monitor actually. That might save some battery life.
It looks cool but i think it has bad UX with the position of the keyboard and touch pad. They just make it harder to type and use the product.

THis would be great for DAWS and pro music apps, the touchpad should be a 3rd screen, it needs one more thunderbol, sd card, and full ethernet, also needs 2 ssds inside,
ASUS technology is really awesome.
My two main concerns would be: what is the typing experience like if you actually keep the laptop in your lap - does the keyboard stretching to the very edge make it more difficult to type on your lap? And how would left-handed people use the touchpad - can you fold your left elbow in a convenient way to reach the touchpad or would this be a long-term nuisance?

People saying “oh there’s no use for a second screen” clearly haven’t used software that runs full screen. I’m always watching UA-cam tutorials, especially for solidworks, and being able to have a UA-cam tutorial and file manager in the bottom screen and solidworks on the main would be so helpful for engineering

I can see myself using the screenpad for IM apps, calendar on the second screen. Really game changer.
Nice as a concept, but the track pad is way to small and I don't like laptops without place for the palms.
Take out the touchpad and make it tablet like since it’s touchscreen anyways. More space for the keyboard. Would be great x

Probably he was talking about the price for the maximum configuration with i9 and 32gb ram. That would be reaasonable asking.

Thanks for making this video. Speaking about use of the secondary display it can be from gaming perspective be used as a secondary input 'device'. For e.g. if you've Nintendo 3DS , you know that it's a gaming console with a lower panel that can be used as input (with stylus) for various games, same/similar functionality can be re-created here. As a TV & Remote-Control kind of application, the bigger screen can be the FULL display TV screen the lower screen can become a horizontal remote control. In gaming again, for instance bike riding games the upper screen can be the game-display with bikes & the lower screen can be virtual bike (controlling) handle-bar. There can be more application that 1 might think of ...

I can say this is exactly what I have wanted and needed for a long time. It's like it's doing what I had in mind many years ago. I'm a creator I needed a touch screen controller seperate from the monitor(s). As long as it works with multi screens and not just the one screen or even the one device then I'm thinking it's here. If not there needs to a hub included or for the duo screen to act as a hub conroller. If a phone could act like the duo screen I could use that but there seems to be a significant resolution problem using phones to create at this point and combininig this sort of functionality with a smart phone like an #10+ seems to be out of reach. Oh yeah something like this seems a real step forward.
