Air Arms 510 Ultimate Sporter - one of the most talked about rifles of 2014, with the massive claim to be "Ultimate". Giles takes a look at this beauty of an air gun and works out a test of ultimate air gun worthiness.
This video contains a review of a pellet / BB rifle. Its powered entirely by spring actioned compressed air and uses no gunpowder and must not be confused with any form of tactical firearm. My Targets are paper and tins.

totally agree with mark, I bought one in .177 six months ago, stock was totally mint, accuracy well all I can say is with jsb heavies its the most accurate rifle I have ever used straight out of the box, single pellet holes at 40yrds and I don't mean clover leaf I mean single pellet holes, it is that accurate I,m thinking of sticking the barrel on my FT rig, in my eyes all I can say is its more accurate than any daystate I,ve ever owned and I,ve owned them all except the pulsar, Air Arms have got it right with this one

I do like the honesty in the marking system, giving an "ULTIMATE" rifle a 6.5/12 do takes some balls to do, and I like it when an airgun guy actually do tell you the facts and not just praise the rifle with fluffs. The AA filling device CAN actually be quick fill though. I got mine to stick with a male froster first and so now it is always a snap to fill it up, no hassle, very fast. Sad to see the stock like that though, which is actually shocking to see from Air Arms... getting my HFT in hand very soon, hope the stock is perfect!

Guys a plinker not a gun expert, no chrono no "options" no price IF you choose to buy air arms PCP's REMEMBER from empty you must cock the gun leaving the bolt/lever in the open position till you have 40 bar don't go above 190 bar or 90 bar.

Tiny bit of silicon grease smeared on the fill port o rings and it goes on and off silky smooth, no fuss, no drama, no need for cloths etc. And is prob best and safest fill adapter out there!!

i have a push on quick release on my bottle adapter and it is super quick to fill .. also being a lefty i find it most definitely LH/RH friendly, in fact when i target shoot i don't have to remove my finger off the trigger because i index with my right hand .. my stock is spotless and came in a plastic bag in the box hence he got his out of a cardboard box no plastic bag so was not untouched hence whoever removed the bag may have marked the stock .. i am mainly a Weihrauch man with 17 of them in my collection, my favourite gun is my Weihrauch HW100 KT with multi adjustable laminate stock .. but i have to say that out of the 30 plus guns i have ranging from Daystate to Air Arms to BSA to FX to Weihrauch, the ultimate sporter is my second favourite !

You can get these amazing rifles at around 1k, they compete at a much higher level than what you are paying for.
This one is around 1200 or so I know, but they can call it ultimate, supreme or whatever, it's got enough features to gladly say I ordered one after watching this video. My friend has one, he has Daystate, FX etc. He says his favorite to shoot is his air arms.

I love when you are so honest!
But I think that the stock you've got was one in a thousand, I don't think all the minelli stocks are like yours, even the best copany might have that problem.
I've tested a hw100 fac fsb Sporter and I can tell it's ultimate airgun, not perfect (40 shots per fill wich it's very eficient due to the air capacity but not enought and it's way too heavy).
Great to see you again Giles, cheers!

I love the Airgun Gear Show! Just last week I was in a shop deciding what rifle to buy and had an ultimate sporter in my hands. I didn't buy it. For me the stock was too chunky up front (I am not a big lad and have small hands so this one is a personal thing), the pistol grip is too raked and I just don't like the look of laminate stocks. Quite frankly even without these issues I was not convinced that the very significant additional cost over and above a standard S510 or even a S410 was worth it. What did I buy? The S200 MPR FT as the stock was simply just a better fit and design for me once it's butt spacers were added, the barrel is the same as the U/S, the accuracy is the same (it's fabulous! I agree, you don't need a regulator if the action pumps out consistent shots with a decent shot count. A reg is another thing to go wrong.), I prefer single shot anyway (no double load issues, safe as you can load a pellet without cocking the action etc), now I just need to put a silencer on it and i have my own 'ultimate sporter'.

Giles, another cracking review. Just a thought to add to the list? How quiet? I know, another one of the bright ideas club. And I know measuring noise can be expensive or hard to gauge. I'm finding as the industry constantly improves on rifles that the silence of an air rifle becomes as important as perhaps weight, sling swivels etc. please keep your reviews coming! Great!!!

With regard to visible safety - I can feel the 'safety on' protruding if you gently rub your forefinger on the trigger side - you don't need to look at it in order to establish if the safety's on....also another thing that would help in your ultimate line up of 12 is how many shots per fill can you get - I chose .22 on mine and have a comfortable 120 before filling, which I think you made a total ham fist of personally. Its easy when you know how and do it regularly.

Sharp looking rifle. I love my AA S400 XTRA FAC. for a .177 it produces 20fpe and puts a hurting on all the pest that hop fly or scurry in front of my scope. Thanks Giles. I will be posting a short video of my Evanix soon and I will let you know when its up.

instead of taping the moderator or using a cloth to protect your gun, tape up the fill fitting that way you don't have to keep masking off the gun. the tape can stay on the fitting because its only attached to gun while your filling

Lovely gun, but coming from the 410 carbine I would look at the Weihrach 110 first. While not as pretty as the AA the Weihrach has a better safety and an anti double load feature. Plus you can get the mag out without cocking the gun by the looks?.... Along with a few other 410 fixes the 510 simply doesn’t have. Like loading the mag gun level. On my 410 lean the gun back and the pellet falls out the mag hole when loading, or lean it forward and the bolt falls forward blocking the magazine. I don’t see the 510 helping most of those issues. Sadly. But oh my, it’s a loverly looking gun the 510

Not sure how the stock ended up like that but my suggestion would be it is a demo model sent out to be reviewed in less than careful hands!
I bought one of these a few years ago and the stock was immaculate,as I would have expected it to be.

aye up ,think you made a meal out of filling ,I don't have a problem filling my s510 even with my fat farmers fingers and have never hit the moderator any way the filling procedure should be taking slowly for safety and that you don't damage the rifle so should be never be called quick fill but easy fill, I agree with you on the safety catch but you don't have to cant the rifle to check if it's safe if your right handed just gently brush your finger on the side of the trigger and if you feel the button it's safe as you have to push the button to the left to fire but yes it could be placed somewhere better , it's also about time air arms fitted anti double load, oh one last thing your lawn mower is shite my mower lizzie the izi is the best mower in the world

so is it an ultimate sporter, because if not then I will just stick with my s400f spaceflight, just as accurate, 250 pounds cheaper with the same if not higher quality including the stock. Giles could you please review the s400 superlight, it really is a fantastic rifle and a good single shot option for the money conscious. I highly recommend it, I have beaten FWB's, daystates and anshutz rifles with it at HFT events, my point is it is a bang for your buck quality rifle from air arms and with so many channels focusing on the high end of pop shooting this really bridges the gap between the quality and the price, please review it

  • @aquaticendeavours

    Hi Giles
The AA quickfill surely isn't the most clever design but you can optimise it
I have a female adapter on my fill bottle to take all the different adaptors for all my different airguns
Get one of them plus a male to screw your AA stupid T design adaptor into, connect it to the gun, plug the female onto it, fill, bleed, remove whip and just take the adaptor off.
You'll never hit your silencer again
Nice vid btw and keep on shooting that bear LOL

I ended up returning mine. The stock was beautiful, walnut, the action superb, but the adjustability of the rifle was limited.youre pretty much stuck using the 18.1 grain AirArms or JSB pellets. the extreme spread was pretty ugly. However, to AirArms credit they redesigned the regulator and offered to retro fit Mine. I just preferred to not go down that road, but rather do the return in favor of an FX Crown

Quick fill it is. Just apply a tiny amount of Vaseline to the seals and you won't have to struggle to get it on or off and nor do you have to use the keyway to lock it on it will still fill. The earlier type didn't have it. You should always apply Vaseline to your seals it feeds them and keeps them supple so they don't go hard split or rip and makes them slide easier and will course no harm to the working of the rifle.

@@richardjones2811 Only an idiot puts seals in dry. What do you think the tubes of lube are that your suppose to buy for the seals. What do you think they use in electrical high voltage switch gear to stop it sparking and arking. Perhaps you now something that the experts don't. Another one that doesn't know his ass from his elbow. I've only been using and maintaining air weapons for 50 years and any PCP I've got gets the seals maintained with a thin smear of Vaseline on it. I didn't think anybody was stupid enough that I had to say don't apply it with a shovel and another thing is Vaseline is a by product of petroleum and isn't flammable but there are lots of idiots that don't know this.

@@richardjones2811 I don't mind punching the keys all night to correct someone that doesn't know what he is talking about. I was pistol and carbine captain of the club when I had a firearms certificate in charge of maintaining all club guns up to 308 and 36 of my own up 270 cal and I got that position through knowing what I'm talking about not through listening to people that don't. Now go and buy some Vaseline and look after your rifle 😂😂😂😂
