Yeah, I’ve been watching these van conversions for years... this is by far the best one I’ve ever seen. This is the first time I’ve actually thought I could live in a van over a tiny house...

Looks great! I always like seeing the 2nd or 3rd builds of experienced vanlifers and seeing what they've changed and why. A fixed bed seems to be the number one thing people go for.
I have seen plenty of nice and practical vans here on YT. Some made of professionals and some of more or less handy owners. This van and your earlier one, are the most beautiful ones yet. I would add a shower though, a custom made slim one. And perhaps a compost toilet. Thank you for sharing and happy traveling!
The soft wall is a genius idea! Privacy and insulation when you need it, a view through the front windows and extra useful seating with the swivel seats when you don’t need the wall. That’s the best van build tip that I’ve seen so far.
A permanent bed AND a living room AND a dining room AND and office AND a kitchen. I love it! Even though I loved the little bathroom in your old van, I do see all the benefits of this one. You still get your own shower, and actually, now you have more room to shower in! I've never seen that thing that scrolls up and down to be a room divider/insulator/blackout curtain before. That is next level!

This build has so many brilliant ideas in it! Dunno if I can get my head round the no inside shower. It's often cold in England! The novelty of that extra space might well soon wear thin in winter! The TABLE MOUNTS!!! 100% getting designed into my build! Awesome build!
It really depends if you are going to live in your van year round in a winter climate. In that case, than an indoor shower is useful. If you are going to flock to warmer climates in the winter, than you might not need it.
With all of the sprinter build out videos posted on you tube, I think your overall design and lay out is one of the most practical and well thought out vans I have seen. Very nice!
I am about 95% done with our sprinter 170 4x4 van build out and our lay out is VERY similar to yours. We have owned several RV's over the years and we found that the permanent bed with storage under is the way to go on this van. We both realize getting a great nights sleep every night is the key to travel for us and our 10 inches of foam in a queen sized bed is amazing. On those nights that it might be raining? I sleep like a baby. If we fill all of the storage space we have now, we are taking to much stuff so storage space is not an issue as it looks like you discovered. I installed windows all around as we don't want to feel like we live in a box. We have so much natural light we never need to turn on the lights during the day and we have 360 degree views if we choose. With the dark tinted windows no one can see in anyways. And if we want, we can put up a few or all of the black out shade in a couple of minutes for privacy or sun blocking. Every RV we have owned with tiny showers, well, they just turn into junk or storage anyway so no indoor shower. But, we do have a portable indoor toilet/bench that works really well and no one realizes it is even there until we show them. I really like your cat walk between the solar panels, I wish we had done something like that. We have 580 watts of panels on the roof which pretty much takes up the entire space. But the trade off is, our battery bank is usually fully charged by noon if we are parked. I installed a Stirling DC/DC charger and so far I am super impressed with the ease of install and how well it works while driving. (www.amazon.com/Sterling-BB1230-12-Volt-30-Amps/dp/B071DMV7PF) So I can see why you love your van, cause we love our van also.
Wow this van is a beauty. It's pimped out with all the coolest gadgets. The soft wall is a fantastic idea. 3 batteries? 445 watts of solar!? Charcoal filter (say what)!?! That table is so pretty and the van has an awesome layout; what a great use of space. Ok, I admit I'm going to steal some of these ideas. Thanks love 😁
The cushions are made of sunbrella. So they are fade and stain resistant. The floor has some texture in it. We are still figuring out the best tool to clean it with. A mop with a little water/vinegar seems to do the trick. Like my old van I'm learning though, that any floor in a van is hard to keep clean especially when you have a dog. I'd like to instate a "no shoes in the van" rule, but I don't think that's practical. The curtains we use all the time. We actually have them over the windows a majority of the time because they do such a good job insulating the van.
Yes, I would have to say both these van conversions are both fantastic .I love the lay out of both vans and would take some of these ideas for my own in the future if I were to go Van Life.
This is an awesome van! I could live in it full time. The layout is perfect and the soft wall idea is too. Hmmm... no toilet? Or did I miss that bit? Love it. Edit... found your answer abt a loo further down the comment section.
Great presentation of a thoroughly thought out van conversion. I am a senior and like the folding recumbent trikes like the Greenspeed Magnum XL trike and the AZUB Ti-Fly trike. Also the Catrike Dumont and the HP Velotechnik Scorpion.
I've been waiting impatiently to see the new van; It doesn't disappoint! I live in Portland, so have followed Outside Van for a while. Their builds look to be very high quality, but yours is the first one that appeared homey. I had considered them to be builders for the serious weekend warrior, not full time van dwellers. After seeing the new van I've changed my mind. Can't wait for the follow up videos.
Yea, this is a departure from the look of most other Outside Vans I've seen. The cool thing is their work is fully custom. If you can think it, they can do it. And they were fabulous to work with. let me know if you have questions.
I absolutely loved your last van, but I so get what you mean about making it practical for YOUR needs...and this is a lovely van build also...very nice quality...very pleasing to the eye also...I really loved the washroom in your last van build, but with that said I know it is not a priority for everyone...and if I was living in it for a while I might find that I didn't use it all that often also...love the lagoon table...love the soft walls...great build indeed...enjoy and travel safe...because of course, "It's A Wander-FULL Life" indeed!
Would you mind sharing how much it costs to do the conversion? Did you provide the van to Outside Van or they ordered it for you? Is it a 4x4, it looks lifted Thank you for sharing

talking about 'inconvenience' - what'ya goina do if last night's chilli con carne is knocking on your back door? having a van with mountainbikes stored in the garage and a bed and a kitchen but no toilet at all doesnt make any sense at all :-))
i see that video isnt on your channel yet - I love the van, quite a few good ideas, eg such table or the foldable dining seats that become a lounge, i had not seen anywhere else yet @thumpsup@ .. however, what are you doing when nature calls..? guess you're not digging holes? :)
@@kloppskalli i agree..plus the fact that women have periods every month..how do you solve that problem?..you need to constantly wash in order to prevent infection..
Thanks for this video with the detail of material and layout on your website. Outside van has high-quality build with a price which is OK as a business model. It is great to see a "traditional" fix bed/basement unit compared what their Ad videos. This layout is practical and was my type of choice when I build. We were RVer and retiree, we prefer the Winnebago RV B van type with shower an toilet. We may try compost but the more we discuss with my wife. We are back to the black tank/dump design since we did that for 10 years from our last travel. At our age, hurting for a toilet is no fun. But that is just a personal preference. Much younger Vanlifer prefers simplicity and less is more. I can understand that. Sprinter 4x4 is a premium platform compared to Promaster and the Ford, that can be a 20K difference on a new chassis especially we are waiting for the 2019 model. But the Sprinter drive position and handling is the best in our opinion. Again, great documentation of Vanlife and inspiration from your work.
Excellent video and Van!, really love all the fantastic ideas that have been thought out here. There is no substitute for learning through experience. Thanks for sharing that learning and presenting it to us.
Kristin how do feel about going from 144 to 170 wheel base? Do you miss the 144 or nah? Your thoughtful explanation of why you went with the “bed over garage” layout is super helpful! Specifically how much you learned and applied from living in the previous layout, thanks for the practical advice and sharing your thought process. Outside van was a huge source of inspiration when I built my sprinter. You’ve given me serious van envy!
Such a great conversion on your 170” wheel base! We’ve been trying to decide if we should upgrade from our 144” Transit to a 170” Sprinter. This video has been really informative and helpful.
showers outdoors and poo in the kitchen? and all of that for 100k? No way, thanks. but beside of that van is beautiful. Must be awesome laying there on the roof on the sun.
@@TheR4k3 Whether or not Outside Van is in your budget, the idea for the video is to give people ideas for layouts and materials, whether you are DIYing or hiring someone else to build it.
@@TheR4k3 yes it is, however you can do mostly all of the install your self using the same components as actionvan uses because they are mostly all from rbcomponents.com
Patriot Jefferson I'm not far off. The build is about 15-20k. Windows are about 500 per window, swivel seats are about 500 per seat. Solar, inverter, lithium batteries etc maybe 8k. Heater 2k, roof rack 2k. A few more random things..its definitely not 100k..
How much do they charge if you dont mind saying. Im thinking of converting a sprinter, but with the van + materials I need already being around 35k, I cant imagine paying more than that when I can just figure out how to do it myself, even though I know it wont turn out that good.
Ouch. That's more than I paid for my house. Hey, if you got the money to burn then I say go for it. Personally, I would always be worried every time I went somewhere in something that expensive.
You have chosen well. Yes it's allot of clam shells and many of us can't to that. Idid buy a 144 and was hoping to do what you've done but I fear the cost is . But if you have it and you know what you want, Your on top of the world. It's a great build! Mac out
101perspective: For perspective, in the U.S., these days, the average new house easily costs between $300k and $500k (in those places people generally desire moving to, rather than away from). After watching this video, I was thinking it wouldn't be surprising if this van + high-quality build was $150k.
Ken Howard That isn't really a good comparison. You almost certainly would never be allowed to park something like this anywhere near where those more expensive houses in the highly toured areas are. No, you are going to end up parking closer to the $150k and below homes in most cases. And you can bet that a $150k van in those locations is going to stick out like a sore thumb. You will be a prime target for thieves and vandals. Heck, you could even be a prime target for cops looking to hand out some tickets. Now, you can stay at paid sites with something like this. However, that means limiting where you can stay... it also increases your costs significantly. On top of that, there are many roads out there that you might be willing to take a van this size on, but you would have to be crazy to take one on it that costs $150k. So, now you are limiting yourself in that respect also. All of that said, if you have the money to burn, then most of what I just pointed out isn't going to matter much to you.
I don't have toilet in my van. You can read this blog post for toilet options and to see why I chose not to have one: bearfoottheory.com/best-campervan-toilet-options/
She blogs about vanlife. That is part of her business and what these vans cost is part of vanlife. It is information that people interested in vanlife want to know. That is the whole point of blogging, to convey information to her audience so they can learn about the topics etc.....
I agree; I'd want a bed that was permanently flop-down-on-able. No converting tables into beds and back. I myself will only be needing a twin bed, so I may still be putting mine along a side. But I will also not do a permanent bed location. I want to be able to move the bed if I think it would be better in another spot. I want the whole interior very convert-able.
My suggestion would be to go out and use the van empty first, so you can get a sense of what you really want. Also, you want to really have your priorities nailed down, including gear, so you know if your proposed layout will accommodate the other things you want in the van.
I've been binge watching these van conversion videos for the last couple of weeks and this is the best van I've seen. Stunning!

Oh my god!!!! This is my favorite so far!!! Love the battery bank!! WELL DONE!!!
Definite difference in your tour. You can tell you are really happy with this conversion.
Thanks! I was stoked with the last one, but this one is definitely more practical based on how we've been using the van.
Great van and tour thx. One thing.... you can not work on that high shelf sitting so low in the swiveled driver seat. That's a fail to me.
Love everything about your van! Especially like those white walls. Well thought out, clean and minimalist.
Thanks Marci!
Melanie & Harish steal away! That’s why I’m sharing ;)
Bearfoot Theory - I'm curious about your flooring and cushion covers. Easy to clean? And do you use curtains?
The cushions are made of sunbrella. So they are fade and stain resistant. The floor has some texture in it. We are still figuring out the best tool to clean it with. A mop with a little water/vinegar seems to do the trick. Like my old van I'm learning though, that any floor in a van is hard to keep clean especially when you have a dog. I'd like to instate a "no shoes in the van" rule, but I don't think that's practical. The curtains we use all the time. We actually have them over the windows a majority of the time because they do such a good job insulating the van.
Yeah this one is waaaay cooler than your last one. I like it. When I'm ready to tired of my van I may look them up.
Thanks! I'm glad you dig it. Let me know if you have questions.
It looks so great! I especially love the table. Can't wait to meet up again and see it in person when we are finished with our new van. :)
Thanks. I love the table too. I'm excited to see your new van!
Awesome van! Looks much more functional then the last one. I'm gunna reference this when I build my van one day. Awesome job!
A F thanks! I’m glad you dig it! The layout is definitely more functional for how we are using the van. Let me know if you have questions
This is my favorite van conversion and I have watched 100+ van videos! You’re so lucky!
It gives me so much inspiration. Like the privacy curtain zipper thing. If I convert a van. That’ll definitely be on the list
That curtain is awesome. Provides total privacy in seconds and also provides a ton of insulation.
I love seeing vans like this but this truly was my favourite good job liverpool uk here ❤️
This littarely has all the van things I wanted in a van.
4x4 sprinter van + ebikes is the life :)
Agreed :)
Also the Catrike Dumont and the HP Velotechnik Scorpion.
this is one of the best vans i have ever seen. congratulations, good job, and thank you!
Thanks!
What a beautiful rig! O.V really has their stuff together. These are the cream of the crop!
Matt Howard yep! That’s why I chose them
The mastery continues, Mr. V. 👍🏻
I agree with Go Experimental. Best layout. Spacious and comfy. love the swivel seats!
THanks!
Wow what a vid just in the process of buying a sprinter for a camper and your vid has so much info thank you so much 😊
If I win the lottery I'm having one of these😎
James Co : so do I.🤩😜
One of the best reviews and presentations I've seen.
Glad you liked it!
I subbed as soon as you did the cat walk... dig the setup too.
FreshCoastDon haha good name isn’t it
I absolutely loved your last van, but I so get what you mean about making it practical for YOUR needs...and this is a lovely van build also...very nice quality...very pleasing to the eye also...I really loved the washroom in your last van build, but with that said I know it is not a priority for everyone...and if I was living in it for a while I might find that I didn't use it all that often also...love the lagoon table...love the soft walls...great build indeed...enjoy and travel safe...because of course, "It's A Wander-FULL Life" indeed!
Thanks Anne! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch.
And a cat walk?! Oh yeah, I'm using this one 👏👏
Melanie & Harish yea the catwalk was the owner Erik’s idea
You've made some practical changes compared to the previous van. Is there anything you would change in this van?
So far nothing major. A couple of minor tweaks which I'll share in an upcoming video...but I'm absolutely loving the layout.
Agree with a previous comment, this is superb, definately the best conversion.
Would you mind sharing how much it costs to do the conversion? Did you provide the van to Outside Van or they ordered it for you?
Is it a 4x4, it looks lifted
Thank you for sharing
I have same questions!! Please and thank you
@@janemccabe6336 80K
obviously its a 4x4 lifted + suspension etc not standard sprinter
@@bitcanics6892 Where do you get 80k? Really? What a deal. I've seen these things go for over 150k.
@@donsullivan7736 no just the cost outside van charges for the conversation starts around 80k you still have to buy the van bro. I have a 4x4 sprinter too
This has given me some good ideas! Especially like the blackout curtain and the table
momma hil the curtains are so awesome! I feel like we can be pretty stealth despite being such a big van
Beautiful van no doubt. But absolutely not a single comment on how you shower or empty your bowls and bladder??
did you miss where she showed you the shower? my guess is she uses nature as her toilet.
I talk about the toilet in this blog post: bearfoottheory.com/best-campervan-toilet-options/
Very cool van. We have 4x4s but have started paying attention to vans to try and decide what to get next!
Not only do I want that van but I want to be you..... but me!
Van 2.0 is SO COOL Kristin! Great design and ideas and such a clean look.
Bob Thompson thanks Bob!
how do you like the sink? I've heard those round sinks are just the right size for plates, etc to get stuck in...
I love the sink. It's pretty spacious so we haven't had any issues with dishes getting stuck
I love the sink. It's pretty spacious so we haven't had any issues with dishes getting stuck
I finally watched the new video of your new van, great layout and use of space.
Thanks for watching!
The best van I've seen yet I hope you don't mind if I steal most of your ideas the table is incredible the soft wall the draw knobs ,roof rack is soooo low, buying it tomorrow. Great ideas , have fun in your beautiful HOME ON WHEELS. Thank You Very Much!!!!!!
No problem Scott! Let me know if you have questions.
Where can I get those knobs that lock , very cool!! How did you make that table top with the map? I had that idea too but I didn't know how to start it , got any tips ? The soft wall , you said it was custom , can I get some? Thanks , once again very cool van.
Did I miss the toilet section? Or there isn't a loo?
There isn't a toilet. I'm going to make a video about the toilet situation soon.
yes please
talking about 'inconvenience' - what'ya goina do if last night's chilli con carne is knocking on your back door? having a van with mountainbikes stored in the garage and a bed and a kitchen but no toilet at all doesnt make any sense at all :-))
i see that video isnt on your channel yet - I love the van, quite a few good ideas, eg such table or the foldable dining seats that become a lounge, i had not seen anywhere else yet @thumpsup@ .. however, what are you doing when nature calls..? guess you're not digging holes? :)
@@kloppskalli i agree..plus the fact that women have periods every month..how do you solve that problem?..you need to constantly wash in order to prevent infection..
Wow, thanks for sharing the company. I don’t want to build my own van out so I will definitely check out the company.
Yea Outside Van does some of the highest quality work out there. Let me know if you have questions.
THIS WAS SO NEAT! Thank you so much for sharing this. What was the total cost of this Van conversion?
one year and still waiting for answer, lol
Where can I find information about the soft walls?
Contact company.
One of the better van conversion videos for sure!
Thanks!
5:25 This table is way too high :D
Excellent video and Van!, really love all the fantastic ideas that have been thought out here. There is no substitute for learning through experience. Thanks for sharing that learning and presenting it to us.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the support.
I'm really happy I went with the 170. I talk more about my thoughts in this Instagram post: instagram.com/p/BlLXhzIAGm8/?taken-by=bearfoottheory
Such a great conversion on your 170” wheel base! We’ve been trying to decide if we should upgrade from our 144” Transit to a 170” Sprinter. This video has been really informative and helpful.
Adrienne Twenty-Seven thanks! You should check out this blog post; bearfoottheory.com/144-vs-170-sprinter-vanlife/
showers outdoors and poo in the kitchen? and all of that for 100k? No way, thanks. but beside of that van is beautiful. Must be awesome laying there on the roof on the sun.
170 wheel base, four wheel drive, custom shop to fix it up? Maybe closer to 200k.
Awesome. Excellent presentation tour. Thank you!
Back in the real world - how much?
geoff callicott seriously, this is awesome, but how realistic is it for people’s who are more budget conscious.
@@TheR4k3 Whether or not Outside Van is in your budget, the idea for the video is to give people ideas for layouts and materials, whether you are DIYing or hiring someone else to build it.
80K
@@bitcanics6892 I assume that's on top of the cost of the van.
@@TheR4k3 yes it is, however you can do mostly all of the install your self using the same components as actionvan uses because they are mostly all from rbcomponents.com
+1. Hey, Bearfoot Theory - Great Sprinter van build ideas, many thank you's. Travel safe. ..
Cheers, Mike & Ingrid (we're following suit)
How do you shower when it's cold? 🤷
Brrrrrr...❄️🌨️❄️

Awesome presentation! Looking forward to the next van details!
masseteilchen3000 thanks! More coming soon!
Very nice .
What was the cost?
Im going with $135k before her advertising discount
No way, Def no where near 135k lol. The build was prob 45k. Plus the van.
4x4 170 sprinter and top of the line conversion with a huge solar system is easily $100k+.
If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
Nice conversion ! Definitely a high quality finish and lots of nice features !
Thanks for watching.
What's the name and or link to the Van conversion company in Portland OR?
They are called Outside Van: www.outsidevan.com/
How much do they charge if you dont mind saying. Im thinking of converting a sprinter, but with the van + materials I need already being around 35k, I cant imagine paying more than that when I can just figure out how to do it myself, even though I know it wont turn out that good.
+Redpill University You are looking at six figures.
Right, I asked before I realized they did all the wiring and stuff too, Im just talking about the carpentry.
@@CommonSensePhilosophy You'd need to ask them. It depends on the circumstances and varies by things like what you want done.
Awesome new van build, congrats. Look forward to seeing your new adventures.
Andrew Kumler thanks!
How much did your van cost?
New 170 inch Sprinter 4x4 van plus Outside Van special build quality is $150K
Wow! I love what you have done on this van.
Why did you remove the toilet
? How do you do without it?
I talk all about the toilet in this blog post: bearfoottheory.com/best-campervan-toilet-options/

Awesome van build. Perfect van for full time living.
Thanks! I love it.
C'mon people, how much it cost is her business. She's a private citizen not a company. Cost is relative to situation and happiness anyway.
She blogs about vanlife. That is part of her business and what these vans cost is part of vanlife. It is information that people interested in vanlife want to know. That is the whole point of blogging, to convey information to her audience so they can learn about the topics etc.....
Nice floor plans. Well done. Very informative. Thank you.
