@@vintagemagic Doesn't matter if it was damaged. You were not careful in taking it out and you didn't ask for permission. You can tell he wasn't pleased either (as many wouldn't) as at 6:52 he explicitly asks you to flip the page to see the duplicate Mox. I'm not hating, I'm just suggesting you to avoid this in the future. He may have indeed not minded, or he felt uneasy to do so during a recording. Either way, I promise you that many people would be annoyed if you did something like this with their cards.
I took a hiatus from MTG as well but I was using my money on a bad addiction now that i'm clean I've picked up mtg again. I love the art work equally to the game itself. I just hope I can get some signatures on some of my cards.
I vividly remember black lotus being $200 in Scrye magazine for Unlimited and mox were around $100. this would have been when revised just came out maybe 94.
I actually did pull an 'Amulet of Quoz' from an ice age booster way back in the day and it made references to ante so I think it was still a thing is wizard's mind at that point. Me and my friends played for ante once or twice in the late 90's and stopped doing that real quick lol
To answer the question, I used to get online and read the price lists that were passed around and posted to FIDOnet and Usenet (which for some stupid reason, nobody saved a copy of, and so all of FIDOnet and all of Usenet before like '98 are gone forever). I remember reading a price list that put the price of an Alpha Black Lotus at $30 in 1995, I think the spring of '95. And you have to understand, this was an obscene, unheardof, unrealistic-sounding number at the time. I remember telling my friends that it was $30 and just people could not imagine someone paying so much for a piece of cardboard. And then I remember in 1997, the price had gone up to $700. I think there was a news story about it somehow, and that's what caused me to go looking for the price around that time.
I remember back in the day I bought 3 juzam Djinns and 2 Nether voids from a kid that was selling his cards out of a binder for $50. Damn I wish I had kept those
So is he actually selling this collection to you or have you got some sort of arrangement just to make videos of the stuff? Either way it's a glorious collection. It might have been a large investment at the time but if it's a 200k collection now I think it's money well spent! Especially when you got to play the game too.
It was 15 bucks for an unlimited black lotus in 1993 , 50 for a beta or alpha. I remember the card shop had a royal assassin for 12 at the same time. They also had an beta pinned up in a plastic sleeve on a cork bulletin board. My genius self spent 15 bucks on a Wildcats # 2 that day. It’s now worth less than 15 bucks... so lo f’ng L
God, could you imagine trading through the mail with random people from the internet with no guarantee they will actually send their card. With legends cards.
Love or cards? Why chose. I have both and would suggest if ur love doesnt support your hobby you should reconsider that love. 🧐 Also if u handled my black lotus like u did his I would ask you to not touch anything else.
From what I first remember of expensive magiccards is that around 97 (started in 95) is that I bought a NM Beta Underground Sea for 50 Dutch Guilders which was around $20,- at the time. A NM Beta Black Lotus would set you back at about 750 guilders, so $300,- (prices at a LGS)
I didn’t have a wife in 94 and as soon as I saw magic the gathering, I responsibility maxed out 3 credit cards and bought as much as I could.
Why would you take the Black Lotus out of the folder? Your lucky he didn't smash your dirty hand with a mallet
You understand the card is not mint and nothing was damaged correct?
@@vintagemagic I know you probably own it by now so ill let you slide on this one lol
you could have asked first...
He grades cards guys he's very careful

Unlmimted Black Lotus was around $20 in 1994. Start from there.
I feel as if my health has declined looking at this man
Wow!!! Great collection Lance! Thanks for sharing (and Dan for shooting the vid).
Ante cards were printed as late as Homelands. There was ante in Ice Age. So it was in until '95.
Cool old school collection! The arabian nights packs are so crazy, I'd crack and grade.
Loving the unopened even if searched ARN packs!
WTF man...cavalierly taking the dude's Black Lotus out of the binder. ...that's one nice dude. Rude AF. Then you give some lame cop out defense below.

I played when revised came out - Moxes weren't beyond 20 Deutsche Mark (around $12) back then

@@vintagemagic Nah bud, just ran out of ways of making mistakes thus stumbled in a better way of doing things in life. Thanks for the video D!
In 95 i think the black lotus was still 3 to 400 bucks not cheap for cards then
In the DFW area they were going for $200.

If you aren't buying that collection, lift the plastic sleeve up, man. :P
Duels were $5 as well...
Despite what the Beatles say, you can buy love. At least for a night. So obviously, you should always choose money.
That dude is my people.
Please get that guy an ultra pro binder
I thought homelands had an ante card? Timmerian fiends?
It did. Final ante card printed
you should probably show us more of the collection instead of just talking buddy...
Pretty cool
The focus is giving me headache
What is on his glasses? Is he a future man?
That is a heads-up display for a computer.
Google Glass, I do love a HUD...
A glasshole. Thank God they are rare.
Steve Lantz rarer every day...
I'll take the art over love lol
👍
Money!
Ugh id take the collection screw love
