    Thank you for addressing this and making it clearer to the average person. I was in a small meeting of a ministry recently and the pastor had brought someone new onboard. I noticed that the pastor made a comment that "this is not about doctrine." I didn't understand at the time, but this new person who has many gifts and talents, I have realized is a progressive. Yes it is about the love of God, but how do we even go there if our doctrine is warped? Truth sets us free and we do not find truth in warped doctrine. Can you imagine being awash in this progressive doctrine and not being able to go to the Word because the Word does not count? Progressives I have come to know are pretty adamant that the Bible is not the Word and my experience is that the truth of the Bible just does not exist in their world. Body of Christ, be careful, this is huge. I feel like we are moving into something we have not really seen before. Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

    I’m in my late seventies now, and I can’t get over how much this world has changed then when I grew up. I’m 37 years sober now because god made himself real to me, there’s no more crucial moment in a persons life then when he or she is encountered by God, that moment sets in motion the rest of one’s life. A lot of these false doctrines seem to have been created by trying to make the gospel more appealing to the secular world. Just another reminder that we are not of the world and we shouldn’t think like the world...otherwise, we lose the saving message of the gospel.

    I just found your channel/podcast and have been watching so many. My husband and I were just discussing how a certain church in our area believes in gods word as a guidebook/inspiration instead of the divine and complete word of god. It’s heartbreaking to see a congregation spill theory as that. I teach the Bible and while I don’t believe we should take everything in the Bible literally, I believe it is the literal word of god. That gives us context and culture to work around while always understanding the divine natural of gods word to us. (Meaning we aren’t all called to sacrifice our sons as Abraham was Isaac but we can certainly know God put that in his word for us to learn and study from) As I study gods word more and more, I grow more conservative in my Christianity. It’s hard to see how you can grow more progressive but sadly it happens.

I have noticed over the years that other "religions" take Christianity and tweak it to be a little different (some are way different of course) but a lot are just a little different. Denying Jesus' divinity, Trinity and Jesus being the one way. It is shocking to see churches moving in this same direction. Satan is so good at what he does and so many people don't see it.

    When I was very young, between 3-7 my family read the Bible and talked to me about the Bible and stories from it. My first real and only church experience was at 7. My grandparents took me to Catholic church. During this service when the "father" began reading from the book of Revelation my eyes literally closed. The More I tried to force my eyes open to read revelation I got a worse and worse headache. After this I went home and prayed. God told me to read the entire book before I read Revelation. So I began.
    Over the next 17 years I read and studied the Bible in its entirety, but eventually focused on the new testament, specifically Matthew Mark Luke and John.....during this time between 7 and 24 years old many times I tried to read revelation, even just a few sentences. And every time I tried to read it my eyes would physically close and I would get a headache.
    However, I did read the first few verses of revelation MANY times over that period as I started the book of Revelation a thousand times, but I couldn't get past the first 4 or 5 verses when I tried.
    Sometime in the summer of 2000, when I was 24, I began trying to read the book of revelation and this time God let me. No more headaches or eyes closing.
    It was then very shortly into reading it something stuck out,
    But I didn't know exactly what,
    It was a feeling in my gut,
    so I asked God what am I missing..
    He said "Listen closer."
    After reading the beginnning of revelation numerous times I finally realized I recognized a phrase,
    Rev...1:3.
    "for the time is near".
    Until this point I even though I had read it numerous times before, I was so focused on reading more before my eyes would close and a headache would start I didn't hear it closely until this point.
    I immediately began searching where else I heard that phrase. Soon I found it;
    In Luke chapter 21, verses 7-8:
    This is where Jesus Christ specifically tells us to not follow the many who come in his name claiming 'I am He' and "the time is near"-
    Jesus says do not follow those who use that exact phrase.
    I eventually googled the phrase and found that the author of revelation uses that phrase twice.
    I asked God if what He was showing me is proof that he warned US about Revelation and that it is a false prophecy- He said "what does My Word The Bible say?"
    Listen, the reason how I know this doesnt matter because it doesn't change what Jesus says;
    Jesus says do not follow the many who come in His name claiming 'the time is near' - the author of Revelation then uses that EXACT phrase TWICE, once in the first chapter and again in the last chapter: effectively sealing the entire prophecy called Revelation with a phrase JESUS CHRIST tells us not to follow anyone who uses it.
    Since 2000 I have been quietly talking to people and showing them this. Whomever will listen- which hasn't been many. In August of this past year(2020) I asked God what else am I supposed to do. He said make a video and tell everyone.
    So, I did.

    As a conservative EVANGELICAL Christian, I would say that the two items listed under the progressives do not add up. For example, Eastern Orthodox Church believes in Christos Victor and they see the death of Christ as an example and one that conquered death rather than sacrificial death. And they are literally 2,000 years of tradition. Secondly Mennonites and Amish and many Baptists do not believe in the sinful nature (This is what Calvinist and reformed Christians hold to) rather they believe that with adam whole of nature (Not human nature) fell and had to be redeemed. They do believe in the ORIGINAL sin meaning Adam and Eve but they do not believe that we are born sinners in other words we all will BECOME sinners and they all agree that this applies 100% to all humans beings. Therefore we all need saving faith in Jesus Christ and his redemptive work. I know that this may sound like semantics but it is not. People need to understand that there are some internal differences that we should be aware of but these views do not make these Christians to be progressive.

  • @alphamegaradio
    @alphamegaradio 2 роки тому

    Good breakdown. What do these "lists" have in common? Not simply religious views, but WORLDVIEWS. Progressive liberalism is a worldview, just as classic conservatism. RULE OF THUMB: Your worldview is shaped by your spiritual beliefs. If you stay long enough in your "worldview" more so than the Lord Himself, you'll soon start RESHAPING your spiritual views to FIT YOUR social-political "worldview" (keyword: "world"... view). A person's politics always flows from this truth. You, me, all of us. Once the focus is off of Jesus, the world begins "renewing our minds" (according to its ways) vs. the Holy Spirit doing so (according to His ways).

    7:30 shouldn't the bible be used to fight social injustice? One can still believe in Christ and be against social injustice..

    • @Topg1
      @Topg1 3 роки тому +3

      Yes God meets the oppressed. But the Bible also says the reason why there is oppressed vs oppressor is because of human beings fallen nature. Humanity fallen nature affected society. Many right wingers just focus on the gospel and reject the need for participating in social justice. Our Lord and Savior reached out to the poor, the marginalized, the outcast first. Yes fight against injustice. We must preach the gospel also. Many PC's will down play the gospel and only focus on social justice. They ignore that sin is the root cause of all social injustice.

    These are all red flags, where if you hear this stuff preached, I would run, not walk, towards the exits. Also, I don't have "favorite" authors, speakers, pastors. I read the Orthodox Study Bible and listen to EWTN radio for proper theological understanding of the faith and scriptures and plan to order some books with writings from the early Church fathers.
    I think 500 years later, the shortcomings of the Protestant reformation are on full display with thousands upon thousands of different denominations (including non-denomination, which is a denomination unto itself) all with differing interpretations of both The Bible and their image of God with His righteousness replaced with their own version of it- hence "progressive Christianity".
    The biggest culprit is the embrace demonic teachings dating all the way back to Marx, Engels, Hegel, Rousseau whose teachings made their way from Europe onto the shores of the US in the late 1890s and early 1900s and have infected our society. It took roughly one hundred years for the widespread damage to be done and the destruction to be widely noticed, but it is here. A very informative video.

    I love your podcasts Alisa but the phrase "sin nature" does not appear in the Scripture. The Greek words "hamartia physis" never appear next to each other in any Greek manuscript. We are born with a flesh that is absent of the presence of God or the leading of the Holy Spirit and therefore it is the dictates of the sinful flesh that we follow as unbelievers. When we are born again that flesh is crucified with Jesus Christ according to Romans 6 and Galatians 5:24. The Greek word "sarx" is translated as flesh in the New Testament 143 times. Someone came up with the term sinful nature as a translation for sarx at some point and it took off for some reason. There is no such thing as a sinful nature. We were slaves to our flesh. That is why Romans 8:3 says that ""For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the FLESH, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the FLESH:" It was the flesh that was sinful so Jesus came to condemn sin which was in the flesh, not some nature.

    • @mcgheebentle1958
      @mcgheebentle1958 3 роки тому +1

      Sin nature is just a term used interchangeably with the idea of the flesh. You’re actually talking about the same thing. It’s like saying “the word Trinity never appears in the Bible. Instead, the Bible does repeatedly mention three separate persons or beings making up the being of God...”
      Everyone knows the words “Trinity” or “sin nature” don’t appear verbatim in the texts of Scripture. They’re useful doctrines used to concisely describe and encapsulate what the totality of Scripture says about something. I agree with everything you’ve said about the flesh. I also agree with Alisa when she talks about sin nature because I recognize she means the flesh. But of course, I also agree that we should be vigilant never to insert anything into our theology that isn’t directly from the Bible. I just don’t think Alisa’s doing that here. Hope that clears it up!

Anyone who reads this and thinks I am only talking about people on the "other side," or only people who share his own politics, misunderstands me. The political intrusion is on both sides of the political spectrum.

      As well as a very humbling understanding of his own inadequacy to manage all of creation.
      Of course, if the Bible cannot be trusted...then the book of Job offers no wisdom to the reader.

      He also killed like, 10 people in that story?
      Also, things that aren't 100% true can still offer wisdom. Allegory and things are used for lesson telling. Jesus told fables; if those aren't 100% true (and they aren't, by definition) do they have no wisdom?

      Interesting...about Jesus telling fables to teach lessons... even that statement has no weight IF the Bible is not a trustworthy account of the Life of The Christ.

      Azhiru...I agree with you...I think...Job never questions whether God exists...he does want to know why something bad happened to him...and to his merit assumes that it is his fault and wants to correct it. It seems to me that the friends and Job to some extent are trying to figure out God's sense of justice on the earth...ultimately they are all wrong in their conclusions...save Job at the end when he figures out that no human (spoke of things that he did not understand or comprehend) can judge God's justice or HIS reasoning.
      My point is the Bible teaches that God does not always give the answer as to why bad things are are allowed to happen nor does He view humans as his equal in wisdom or knowledge to debate such things. He implies for us to trust Him implicitly.
      My OP was asking how former Christians who deconstructed and fell away from Biblical faith in God reacted to the truths found in these wisdom books that deal with the tougher questions of life. 2 Corinthians 11:13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
    MATTHEW 7:15
    Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
    MATTHEW 7:16
    By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
    MATTHEW 7:17
    Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
    MATTHEW 7:18
    A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
    MATTHEW 7:19
    Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
    MATTHEW 7:20
    Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
    Ephesians 5:6
    6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.
    Ephesians 5:7
    Therefore do not be partners with them.
    2 Thessalonians 2:3
    Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
    2 Thessalonians 2:4

    Im currently getting in debates in church with people who believe everyone always gets healed. They ignore Timothy's frequent illness and Paul's advice to him to take a little wine for his stomach. And of course the answer is that he wasn't really sick but just constantly having an intake of foods that had bacteria. Thus, he wasn't really sick as such. Either way Paul didn't claim the power of God to protect our stop this. Unfortunately, our church doesn't preach sound doctrine. And so we have a mishmash of individuals with various theologies that make for a very confused fellowship with weak leadership. They seem to worship unity in and of itself as more essential than sound teaching. I guess for them it keeps the numbers up and 'money coming in the door.'

    Hello everyone, I am a progressive Christian! First I would like to point out that progressives are not one group where everyone thinks the same (which thankfully is mentioned in this video). In my 25 years, mostly among other progressive Christians, listening to social media posts, being in progressive groups etc, I have NEVER heard anyone say they believe in panteism. Some of the other claims are also a bit in outerspace, but then again some ideas are more common among parts of progressives. In the end it comes down to ONE question - is the bible 100% inspired (= as it was written) by God or not. The conclusions each individual then make, is connected to that. If the bible is 100% true (not one letter wrong), then the "main" progressive view is false. If the bible is not 100% true, some words or letters are "false" or man made, then the "main" progressive view is true, and fundamentalism is false.

I would love to add or explain why Jesus said to the Canaanite woman that “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs, (Matt. 15:26). The reason I want to explain this topic is because of my Isrselites background.
    Here, Jesus had a purpose to say that. 1) Because the Israelites considered the other nations sinners or (dogs), 2) Jesus meant to say that to the Canaanite woman, as a Jew, but his aim was to show to his disciples that the Canaanite woman is not a (dog) as the Israelites considered her because of her background. 3) Jesus showed his disciples that even the non-Jews are accepted by him, through faith in (Christ) and the Gentiles are God's creation, and through (Christ) no Jew or Gentile, but two become one 4) Jesus said, " O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire" (Matt. 15:28). Finally, Jesus showed his Jews disciples that this Canaanit woman has faith in him, more than the other Jews who rejetced Christ.

    Just as long as you recognize that what you are identifying as progressivism does not mean somehow " new" or recent, or somehow a varient on longstanding orthodoxy in Christianity. Perennialism has a long history in Christianity.
    Mystic and contemplative practice has a long history that predates the theology of protestantism.
    Divinization predates protestantism.
    The Cosmic Christ is found in Colossians 1:15-17, John 1:1-16; 1John 1; Ephesians 1 and the tradition of Church father's recognizing Christ's Cosmic existence pre dates Constantine.
    Universal reconciliation can be identified in passages in the Gospel and the writing's of Church father's about those passages like Origen and Gregory of Nyssa, and others. 1000+ years before Martin Luther was born.
    Issues like original sin are tradition based as are the theories of atonement.
    I think if you want to address these issues fine. The idea of progressivism is a modern construct that at best is historically inaccurate.

For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. I took a course recently on the Holy Spirit. There are a lot of new contextual pneumatologies. Some areas are process theology pushing into process pneumatology. This is what gives "creedence" to eco-pneumatology, feminine-pneumatology, panentheism and pantheism. Process and open theology is a root "enabler" to all of this progressive nonsense. Alisa, you should go after the root as well, what you are discussing are branches and manifestations of the philosophical foundations at play here.
    I want to bring some thing up here regarding "progressive". I heartily affirm Alisa here. The deity of Christ, the bodily resurrection of Christ, the Trinity, etc. However, some of these things are more multivalenced in historic Christian theology and are broader than we as Evangelicals will affirm. When you talk about what you do being more important than what you believe, this is where I think we need to be careful. Sola Fide is a Reformation tenant. It is very good in its intention. I would be careful in its implementation. The Gospel is more than individual conversion. And conversion is more than believing the right thing. I think there is a push in the church toward a critical theory justice gospel. But there is also a push to have a larger perspective of what the Kingdom of God is. These are two different movements with different objectives and different sources. But they get confused as being the same thing. The second move is very good! There is a correction happening where redemption is the realization that God is reconciling all things to himself in Christ. Paul is focused primarily with the individual as that is who he is talking to. But in the background he is always commenting on how all of life is being pulled into the new Creation of his Kingdom. Can you make a video talking about this distinction? I see a lot of good scholars who are fixing a platonic dichotomistic world view where God is interested in saving souls but couldn't care less about the economy, social structures, or other biblically normative issues. It is as if half of the concerns of OT prophets (idolatry and social justice- being the two halves) have been eliminated in the NT and now God really only cares about the interior of people's souls. So if Christians mourn with Amos or Joel, and call the church to repent in these areas, we are villified as social justice, woke. But it is clear that God would not consider repentance from idolatry to be real if it was not accompanied by biblical justice. So Evangelicals, to stay on the safe side, throw out all justice to not be associated with the "woke". But God cared about this way before BLM emerged.

      Hello! Maybe I can help. I am a progressive Christian. While I make it short here, I believe in God, the creator of the universe, I believe Jesus came as God´s son, to reveal his love for us humans. Everyone have sinned, no one can claim they are pure in front of God. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and through him we can be forgiven. By looking at Jesus (how he acted towards other human beings) we can reflect on who we are, and strive to become better persons (this strive, however in my view, NEVER get´s us to become perfect = we always need to turn to Jesus).
      That is the core of my belief, therefore I am a Christian.
      On issues like the bible, our views may differ. For example, I do not believe that the bible was (written, or if we say inspired in such a way that it is perfect). Can there be inspiration from God on some level (even a lot at places) YES, but in my personal experience it is false to claim that there are no errors or contradictions in it.
      When I am not sure about all writers and their stories, the focus is on Jesus. if one simplifies, some conservatives say "the bible should explain the bible", for me I would say that I compare the bible with Jesus. If something is similar to what he says it´s more likely inspired, if something contradicts Jesus it´s more likely not inspired by God.
      I do not speak for other progressives, as progressivism is not a "teaching". These are MY opinion and beliefs.
