It’s just… not the way I pictured it. It’s like hearing a radio commentator for years and then seeing their picture. It just doesn’t match what I thought in my head.
Dr.Claw's face was also shown in a SNES game. Yes there was a videogame about Inspector Gadget. The plot of that game also featured Gadget working alone...without Penny, which kinda makes the game a quote-unquote "finale" for Inspector Gadget series. Kinda like Bucky o Hare Arcade game was a finale for Bucky o Hare cartoon, since said cartoon didn't have any end.
Works for me. It strikes me as what Emperor Zurg from _Toy Story_ might look like under his mask, if he's a humanoid under there. He even has a similar catchphrase to Dr. Claw, "So, we meet again, Buzz Lightyear... FOR THE LAST TIME!". And to round it out, both were voiced by Frank Welker!
What I would’ve liked was if they made a chair with a hand on it just like in the show and on top of that the chair would be facing away from the cover
@@ComAndCollectedGoFigure I was only 5 or 6 when I first saw it and I saw that movie way way before I even knew there was an animated series that existed. But seriously do people actually think claws animated version is that scary?
Hmm, yeah. I don't even think I've seen the movie sequel. I'm going to have to do that! We learned after making this video that when we were kids, we were watching RERUNS of the cartoon! It actually started back in 1982!
Honestly, I think the design could've been much worse. Just take a look at what they did with Claw in Gadget & the Gadgetinis. The only unique feature of his outfit were his yellow gloves. The rest was a black blob of nothing. Even his head was a black blob.
Oh man I had the purple and grey figures at 0:28 as a kid. They were amazing. The grey one broke apart one day though when I accidentally dropped it and I don't remember what happened to the purple one. I miss those toys. I was so disappointed by the Dr Claw figure. I remember as a kid when Dr. Claw is driving his MAD mobile, I used to think he had a big black head with horns that matched the design of his hand. But then I realize it's just the top part of the driver's seat.
Well this is a surprise. I remember watching this in my childhood, on ABC Australia and recently watched some of the old DVD's. Realizing there was a toyline is interesting, but not surprising as toys based off Children's TV was a boom in the 1980's. But Dr.Claw's face is not what I expected. I was expecting a mask the shape of MAD on his head,or at least a tattoo as well as scratches and the like. He still looks evil in te toy line, but not what I was expecting. I reckon the creators of inspector gadget never intended to show Dr claw's face so never came up with an idea of what he would look like, so this is just speculation for the sake of being able to sell an action figure.
I think I'm one of the few whom kinda liked the look, and was never disappointed by it. It's a bit cartoony, so it fits in the Inspector Gadget world, yet still a bit creepy, and a bit different from the usual Gadget bad guy making him unique, and look a little more serious looking in a way. I even kinda like how his spiked hair gives him a kinda demonic look, like the MAD creature logo. I don't mind him having white hair, I don't see him as a "frail old man," (he could be middle aged more likely, some people get grey hair in their 40s) the guy bent a barbell in half in one episode. And one thing they didn't show Dr. Claw's face, until the early 1990's when the line of action figure toys by Tiger Toys was released.
@@ComAndCollectedGoFigure Here's a Fun Fact, but I think you might already know this. Dr. Claw is basically a parody of James Bond Villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, hence why he doesn't show his face (until "You Only Live Twice") and why he has a Cat by his side to strokes.
Two action figures of this Tiger line, Gadget Motorcycle (the one orange-painted you show in your video, with italian card) and Gadget Tank were only sold in Europe. That's why they are not represented on the back of the card (displaying the checklist) you show in your video. 😊
It's a nice action figure, I would have liked it even more if Dr. Claw looked a little younger with a twirly mustache to go with his goatee and somewhat fat. That's how I would picture Dr. Claw in the actual show nowadays. We even get to see his full body in the Christmas special at least in a Santa suit and he seemed a bit fat.
Doctor Claw should look like a cross between Dracula and Ra’s al Ghul from Batman. A full head of black hair combed straight back with white on the side, big bushy eyebrows, grey eyes, a long neatly trimmed handlebar mustache and strong square jawbone.
We can see him in the snes video game too , in the final stage he is flying in his chair and for a quick instant he turn around and you can clearly see is face.
In the action-figure tie-in, yes. Dr. Claw turned out to be old man with a white beard. I have actually seen the show since it ran on CBS in 1992 about 32 years ago (and various "safety tips" on PAX Kids), but I do remember the moustache rather distinctively. I do know an episode that featured Gadget with a moustache throughout (and there being no explanation to it). It may have been the pilot, but I'm know for sure as the airing dates and rotation schedule don't necessarily follow any rules when it comes to non-linear series like IG. IIRC he later in the series used the facial hair as a rather childish disguise during missions. It aired on Nickelodeon, The Family Channel and was in Syndication again a few years back. The bastard spin-off, Gadget Boy & Heather aka "Goo Goo Gadget" was rerunning on Toon Disney. It's aired on Nickelodeon for almost thirteen years from 1987 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 2000 and on the Family Channel (FAM TV) from 1992 to 1995. In my area it aired on Saturday afternoons from 1991 to 1992, during the brief comeback in the early '90's. I've seen all 86 episodes of the mustache years and the non-mustache years. They even added it to his face on the opening credits! Penny was mysteriously missing from the show and opening credits. One such episode was an Olympics themed episode, around the 84 Winter games I believe.
Yes! I know we collected all of his body parts from McDonalds for the live action movie and put them all together like a Megazord, lol. That was an epic fast food toy promo! Is that the one you're thinking of?
i was a dumb kid, i really thought dr. claw was just a robot arm attached to a chair (like in the intro) and assumed his face would look like the MAD symbol and just sat at the top of the chair
Toy is not accurate. Dr claw has two metal gloves not one. I’ve watched the series as a kid and again as an adult. Many times you see both his hands and both are metal with spiked bracelets. 😜
My guess is because we are used to Dr. Claw hiding his face, as it adds an air of mystery to the villain and allows those who never saw the figure to make theories on what Claw's face looks like.
If I was Tiger Toys and I made a Dr. Claw action figure, here's what I would do 1. Give him both metal gloved hand like the cartoon 2. Make him bald and have no Goatee to match his shadow in the episode "Japanese Connection" 3. Give him a scar over his left eye And Voila, there's your perfect cartoon accurate Dr. Claw action figure
I always imagined this is his “human appearance”. or even a mask. He is actually similar to gadget being part human part cyborg from the same experiment only looking like Destro or even Terminator. Sorry but the Frank Welker voice doesn’t match this “mad scientist” look at all!
Yes, about the mask! One commenter shared a custom mask they made for their figure. I can't share a link but you can google it "dr. claw figure grimalkin mask"

Oh my gosh, I looked it up and I cant totally see it! They at least go to the same barber!
I bet a lot of people ended up hating the series when they learned they'd never see Doctor Claw's face.
Definitely some love/hate going on there!
He looks like Dr. Wily & Mr. Ranger of Jellystone Park had a baby to me.
I pretty much did the same thing you did when I first got highspeed internets. 👍
I love it! We had our priorities lol!
I remember a fast food company offered Inspector Gadget toys as well. 🤔
Yes! I know we collected all of his body parts from McDonalds for the live action movie and put them all together like a Megazord, lol. That was an epic fast food toy promo! Is that the one you're thinking of?
Burger King in the '90's. Had different styles of Inspector Gadget action figures. I had a few back in the day 🕵♂️
Bk
i was a dumb kid, i really thought dr. claw was just a robot arm attached to a chair (like in the intro) and assumed his face would look like the MAD symbol and just sat at the top of the chair
It sure seemed like it from the end of the show intro!
And here I thought he was some kinda demon
Toy is not accurate. Dr claw has two metal gloves not one. I’ve watched the series as a kid and again as an adult. Many times you see both his hands and both are metal with spiked bracelets. 😜
I really would have liked that! I wonder if Tiger Toys knew how badly they'd be letting us down!
クローは右腕だけで、腕原種だ思われます。
椅子とアームだけを箱に入れて販売するのはとても面白いでしょう。
Ran through the 80’s**
Actually, this is pretty interesting and it didn't ruin anything. If this is the face of Dr. Claw, the question is, why only in action figure form?
My guess is because we are used to Dr. Claw hiding his face, as it adds an air of mystery to the villain and allows those who never saw the figure to make theories on what Claw's face looks like.
I have NO idea why, but I always thought Dr. Klaw was Inspector Gadget's Chief/boss. A rumour maybe? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
They both seem to hate Gadget equally lol!
If I was Tiger Toys and I made a Dr. Claw action figure, here's what I would do
1. Give him both metal gloved hand like the cartoon
2. Make him bald and have no Goatee to match his shadow in the episode "Japanese Connection"
3. Give him a scar over his left eye
And Voila, there's your perfect cartoon accurate Dr. Claw action figure
Dr. Evil
I love it! So cool that all these years later, we are still studying all the clues from the cartoon!
@@ComAndCollectedGoFigureThat or make him look like a Helmetless Darth Vader
You expected um Bugs Bunny?
I always imagined this is his “human appearance”. or even a mask. He is actually similar to gadget being part human part cyborg from the same experiment only looking like Destro or even Terminator. Sorry but the Frank Welker voice doesn’t match this “mad scientist” look at all!
Yes, about the mask! One commenter shared a custom mask they made for their figure. I can't share a link but you can google it "dr. claw figure grimalkin mask"
@@ComAndCollectedGoFigure yup I’ve seen it. The MAD insignia! :)
I prefer how he looks in the movie tbh
The live action one with Matthew Broderick? Definitely a controversial take!
why are they all wonky eyed?!?!?1
That's what I'd like to know!
Nah wtf did they do with gadget's eyes💀
Dr. Claw's face is not supposed to be seen, which is canon. Dr. Claw showing his face is not considered canon.
Just the action figure, though.
I like that idea a lot! But what set of figures is complete without him?!
Actually not dissapointed, a cartoony mask would look dated
I thought he'd wear a mask
ME TOO!
Does Claws knees even bend to sit him in a chair?
I’m pissed…
Smh
That voice doesn’t match the guy.
Needed a Ron Perlman type.
I thought he was gonna be Hot I don't know why ( Also I only watch the Netflix one )
I bet his mom thought he was very handsome :D
I don't believe it
I still don't lol!
