Susan is a rock star…….and she has thought it out better than most of us. Keep it up Susan! The one thing that I would add is some kind of personal protection for her and her two companions. I know this is a tough subject but we all may be needing it someday.
My grandmother never owned a dehydrator. She dried many hundreds of pounds of fruit by placing jellyroll pans of fruit in the rear window of the car in zone 6 each summer.
Way to go Susan! Amazed by all you have done and figured out with your health, dietary, and financial restrictions. This was encouraging! Thanks for sharing and God bless you.
When you talk to them one on one they are exactly as sweet and kind and down to earth and encouraging as they are on video. Just wonderful and good people. I was so honored to be in this video.
Finally someone who GETS it! YEEEHAW! I am also diabetic so I don't eat ANY carbs, am older, have (too many) cats that are my life, am growing herbs.... Where has this woman been all my life?? Thank you so very much for this video, K and J.
I wish I knew how to do that. It was so much fun to be in this video. I’m currently talking to the local university about borrowing the use of a freeze dryer.
There's a social site called Freesteaders. There's quite a few Floridians posting there. Maybe you live close enough to some of them to make some good things happen.
I am so inspired! I have been so discouraged being older and alone! Susan is my new super mentor! Love her! I have been working slowly for a while to be prepared! My friends make fun of me, I think my family is too nice to say I'm crazy😂 I feel empowered! Thanks!
I make just over the edge, a hair too much, to qualify. Which is ok, I believe children should be taken care of first anyway. I feel like if I really need to I could get a part time job if necessary. I get by on what I have so far, and I’d rather not work and take it easy after working my whole life.
@@ladyjusticesusan actually I think you should check again. The level for Floridians over 60 is 185% of poverty level or 1215$ mo at 185 percent level that would be $2248 per month The other program for senior commodities is 135% of poverty or 1640$ a month. I thought you said you made less than that. Hope this helps. The senior programs do not compete with programs for children.
You could make money, save money, by getting a room mate. Sharing is caring and it is money in the bank. I always had room mates and they saved me a ton of money. A spirited awesome lady. My number one advice for Susan is GET A ROOM MATE.
So inspirational! Especially with the dietary restrictions, I have similar ones. Very helpful. We sometimes go to a food pantry- lots of canned veg and meats sometimes the canned meat comes in a pouch which is lighter than a can.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad to know I was helpful. I look at every video the Provident Preppers make and try to figure how to do it on a budget. I figure I can take 10 years and prep or I can take 10 years and not be prepped. Same 10 years. It takes a while but every year I feel I’m a bit more ready. I’m really thankful that I can be useful to others in this video. Thank you!!
Older woman in a small damp rented urban flat here in UK. Immune disorders resulted in food intoletances. Intolerant to yeast, dairy, gluten, sugar and caused an underactive thyroid. I rarely go out due to fatigue. The ground has no depth for planting but we have some local edible weeds. We have very short summers when its possible to dry fresh produce. Winter is freezing we can store frozen food outdoors its not a long period. Keeping a warm home is a challenge. We get lots of rain which we could purify. I also can make clothing, knit, hand sew. Greating cards and know about food. Having a food storage in a small flat without manpower has resulted in cluttered chaos. However I can shop bargins online weekly with just a little of my usual groceries. I am glad for a bit of variety. I think a good way for me to store some food is to do pickles and sourkraut and maybe some dried leafy greens. I have sprouted things which is great for nutrients. I have shown sprouting in RS there was not much interest. Maybe dehydrated fruits powdered for smothies would be more welcome. The work involved is what stops me. Thank you fpr your videos ❤
@@ladyjusticesusan I really enjoyed what you shared Susan. So well thought out for those of us with limited income and space. I grow my sprouts in mason jars with no soil. Lots of good videos on UA-cam to check out for tips to grow sprouts.
Truly amazing Susan you got me thinking here I have a daughter that has diabetes she not real bad yet but got me thinking on a lot of things going on here with my family thankyou you all are amazing I love watching and have learned a lot I'm just getting into prepping and learning a lot about canning I'm learning godbless you all

thank you, Susan ... that was awesome... I am diabetic too... I love to can... so every time I see beef roast or chicken on sale cheap... I buy a few packs and can it up to make it shelf stable as I don't have a lot of freezer space either. I am on Metformin so that does not need a cooler... but I so have 1 med that is a shot that does... I keep a couple juice jugs in my freezer too... maybe you can save up a few dollars a month and get an electric pressure canner... Carey makes a good one and I think its about 120.00 on Amazon... its a small batch canner, so it will only do 4 qts at a time or 6 small mouth pint jars... but that's ok...it took me a few months to save up as my income is a bit less that yours(1438)... but I love it and each time I can something... it makes me feel so good that I can do my meat or veggie soups that don't have a dozen unpronounceable ingredients in it. I also have a 2008 Chrysler town and country that I have made over into a camper kind of... mine is a "no build" build... I have a cot and plastic drawers... and a 6 cubby wood with baskets that is my kitchen...and of course a luggable loo ...much like yours... I keep a great 1st aid kit and extra cloths and food and things so I can grab and go in less than 10 minutes. thanks again guys for the video... Deb in South Dakota
You sound like my twin when it comes to vans. I’ve not tried canning. I’d like to but I’m afraid of it. I’ve been on the lookout for a local class but haven’t found one yet. I’d feel better trying it if I took a class first.
I have a ceiling rack on which I hang cotton drawstring bags with herbs in to dry. I just leave them and then when the season ends I chop them and store in jars with moisture absorbers in the dark (cupboard). Also I have a hanging fabric herb dryer with multiple shelves that I can hang under my porch today stuff. Also I have learned how to forage (bit scared of mushrooms!). I know that I never need to buy greens again if necessary!..... nettles, dandelion, ground elder, plantain........ and I dry/dehydrate these, to add to meals.
For me it's diabetic eating meat, vegetables, and alcohol. Tree nuts are great. Great snacks. Many good options. We don't need carbs at all. The processed food, the chips, cracks, all junk food. Plan. Have a good plan. Make good choices. Experiment.
I am diabetic also. I have experimented and found I can eat boiled wheat, whole wheat, without blood sugar spikes. Experiment. Do the math. Check and measure.
Susan, you are so inspiring! You showed how to take many challenges in stride and problem solve so that you are prepared for anything! Thank you for sharing with us.
What a brilliant woman!!! So inspiring and soo smart. We all can take a leaf out of her book. Its clear there are no excuses to not be prepared. She does not have disposable income but she has worked hard to secure her living. Im so impressed ❤
Sadly I find community to be a pain in the ass. Friends, yes, community, no. People are very difficult to get along with because people keep secrets. This makes humans very difficult to deal with. I love friends but not "community". Too complicated. Experiment. Do what works. Thank God there are community people. I love medical people who have a calling to save people and help community. Thank God for the community people. Love them. There are hermits like me too.
Wow, Susan, I love the herb swap idea! One idea i have that may be helpful is using your oven to dehydrate produce! I love dehydrating because it's very easy and the finished product takes up so little space. For example, bell peppers in my area are about $2 each, but i occasionally find them in the manager special bags, so that's 3 bell peppers for $1! I'll buy a few bags and dehydrate them, and once finished, all 9 bell peppers store in a single jar (I save glass jars so that's free). I've done apples, celery, carrots, etc. And for anyone really struggling, I would recommend getting some food from a local food bank to help.
Been watching prepping videos for a few years. First video in a long time that had a lot of prepping information I had not heard about before today. Thank you for sharing your information with us Susan!
Good information. However, I don't know what kind of insurance she has, but most insurances have a limit as to when you are allowed to fill the medicine so it would never be ahead.
Actually the majority of insurances allow you to refill by day 25. If you are faithful about refilling, you can eventually get ahead. I think that controlled substances have tighter controls but most chronic meds can be refilled by day 25 ... some sooner.
@TheProvidentPrepper hmmm. Interesting. I hear our elderly parents talk about having to wait and I was under impression that you only get a month supply. It could be different with medicare supplements. I really do noy know. Only rx we get is an eye drop in indiv vials and it is definitely only a month supply. Thanks for keeping us informed. I put alot of stock into your advice!
I have decent insurance through my employee retirement, and I get 90 day prescriptions which I can refill 2 weeks before they end. I think because none are weird or controlled/narcotic, there is no issue with refilling 2 weeks before the end. I think most plans let you refill ahead like this.
@ladyjusticesusan maybe our parents just do not know but I have heard them say, the pharmacy would not fill it yet and would have only a few doses left. Going to investigate!! 😊
My neighbor and I were talking about the need to have prescription medicine stocked. Susan has a great idea. I just received the Greenstalk leaf planter which I want to use for growing herbal plants. Dollar tree also stacking planters to make a vertical planter in just a little space too. If you want to read about medicine making there lots of books that can be downloaded with apps such as Hoopla.
Thank you for these tips. When I get all the plants in a few months this I’ll need that book to learn how to use them. I’m sure the local library will find it for me. Thank you!
@@ladyjusticesusanmy local library does not have much in selection; however, you can get a virtual card to Broward county library in Florida. They have lots of herbal books for loan. Greenstalk is supposed to have a sale this month on their original planter.
First of all, she's incredibly inspiring. I have to eat a lot of low sodium food so I have to put a lot of thought into what I do as well. She is so on the ball. I can't think of anything for her to add to what she's doing. She's amazing. I also agree if she had her own UA-cam channel she could buy that dehydrator if that's what she wanted. Great interview!
YUP Susan's Story I bet is far more the case with many others, than one would think. Space is often a difficult hurdle for many too. While there are some creative ways to store food in limited space, it's still a tough hurdle.
I don’t have much space in a mobile home, that’s for sure. Under the bed is a lot of room. And some gets stored outside in the shed or on the carport discreetly. Creative storage is always on my mind.
@@ladyjusticesusan or behind your couch or under it too... I also have a storage ottoman it the Livingroom that keeps some Drygoods and 1st aid stuff and my alcohol stove.
I LOVE this idea! It’s always helpful to see what other ideas people have and do to become more self sufficient. . Susan, proud of you taking care of you!
It took several months for me to make it working mostly full time on it. It is 100% hand sewn, including the English gabled hood (hat). I was inspired by a portrait of Jane Seymour, Queen of England, 3rd wife of Henry VIII.

You have developed a great way to present prepping information. So much better than looking at one person's face and listening to them pontificate on one prepping subject or another. MORE!!
Thank you!!
Susan has got it going on. She's well prepared.
Thank you! It’s taken a while and I’m still working on it.
They sell 6 pack coolers (small) that plugs into your cigarette lighter in your car❤
That is good to know, thank you.
Susan, I am an exact duplicate of you! Your words really gave me a boost of confidence today!
Thank you so much, I am so glad I could help!!!!
Maybe your neighbors can go in together and you can all buy 1 freeze dryer to share!!❤
I wish we could but even together they’re out of our price range. The good news is that the local university may have resources I can borrow.
WOW! VERY IMPRESSIVE 👏. Elderly are VERY WISE!
What an amazing and brilliant woman! She is an inspiration. Thank you Jonathan and Kylene for bringing Susan to us. God bless you all!
Very limited budget here as well. I recommend sprouts as something that can be grown in a limited space indoors with low start up costs.
I love sprouts and hadn’t thought of them. Thank you so much for this idea!
@@ladyjusticesusan I really enjoyed what you shared Susan. So well thought out for those of us with limited income and space.
I grow my sprouts in mason jars with no soil. Lots of good videos on UA-cam to check out for tips to grow sprouts.
Sprouts have respectable amounts of Vitamin K. Bad news for me, but good news for most!
Truly amazing Susan you got me thinking here I have a daughter that has diabetes she not real bad yet but got me thinking on a lot of things going on here with my family thankyou you all are amazing I love watching and have learned a lot I'm just getting into prepping and learning a lot about canning I'm learning godbless you all
Thank you so much! When I was first diagnosed I struggled a bit but am making my way with diabetic friendly prepping. You will too!
@@ladyjusticesusan yup I'm sure I will were working around high blood pressure and diabetes and cholesterol all in the same home plus theres also been a stroke in the home so it's hard to eat a meal 😂 hehehe I'm sure you know what I mean godbless have a wonderful day.
Wow. That soap making skill is amazing.
thank you, Susan ... that was awesome...
Awesome!
Very cool!
Community 😅😅😅😅😅
Doesn't exist anymore not in cities..
If you are mature enough to socialize and network it does.😉

Right, lol
Exactly.
Loved your video! ❤
Thank you!
Susan you're an inspiration!
Thank you so much!!!!
Susan your babies look like my Samantha. Good video thanks.ETA good plan for meds i now have take this into consideration since surgery.
Thank you!
Susan, you are so inspiring! You showed how to take many challenges in stride and problem solve so that you are prepared for anything! Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you so much!!!
What a brilliant woman!!! So inspiring and soo smart. We all can take a leaf out of her book. Its clear there are no excuses to not be prepared. She does not have disposable income but she has worked hard to secure her living. Im so impressed ❤
Thank you very much! It takes longer when you don’t have much money but it can be done.
Go Susan! You may find an unrepaorable laptop at a computer repair store.
I hadn’t thought of going there and just asking. The answer is always no until you ask. Thank you!
I see old laptops at thrift stores from time to time.
Good info Susan. You are set and ready! God bless you!🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽
Thank you!!
Your friends are your community :)
Such great ideas...thanks! 💖
Those "decoy" tips Susan mention are awesome!
Thank you! I’m hoping to add a decoy laptop someday if I ever find someone throwing one away.
Brilliant about the meds! 🤩
I wish i lived next door to this woman
Thank you so much!! You are appreciated
Thank you 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️♥️
Been watching prepping videos for a few years. First video in a long time that had a lot of prepping information I had not heard about before today. Thank you for sharing your information with us Susan!
You are very welcome. I am so thankful you found it useful.
@@CEL403I hope they can get refills early. Crossing my fingers for you!!
😊👍
Awesome video
Thank you

Happy to share to help others prepare!
GREAT COMMON SENSE AND PRACTICAL IDEAS/ADVICE.
MANY BLESSINGS 💖 🐱🐱
Thank you!
Thank you for this video Susan was great
Thank you! I appreciate you saying that.
What about dried fruit with Sulphur? Avoud
Definitely avoid! I try to find dried fruit that is just dried fruit. Not easy and it’s expensive but I do a little at a time.
I save my farts 💨 in a bag and the lint from my dryer and combine them together to make a fire starter
Damn. I gotta know where susan got that dress from.
She made it :)
It took several months for me to make it working mostly full time on it. It is 100% hand sewn, including the English gabled hood (hat). I was inspired by a portrait of Jane Seymour, Queen of England, 3rd wife of Henry VIII.
