When you took the trimming blade out to level the remaining sealant, you mentioned to be careful to not scratch the paint. Then you point into the top and use it as a scratch all. If the truck didn't have a rust issue there then it will soon enough. Plenty of plastic tools to remove build up in that area, without the need for a stainless blade against what remains of any paint. Really did not expect to see that with the attention to detail you spoke. Great walk through with fantastic progression. Thanks
My f250's windshield just broke, so I took to UA-cam to see if I could possibly change it myself. I'm not sure if I can, but if I do decide to try it, I'll be using this video for reference. You do a great job explaining the steps of it. Thanks for the info.
Great video ! I've got a 2001 Excursion that the windshield is leaking on - lots of water gets inside in heavy rain. The joint between the glass and the rubber sealant is what came loose - not down at the metal (not a rust problem). I wish you were here in Austin, Texas - was impressed with your attention to detail. Great comments - explaining every step. I am a do-it-myself kind of person, but .... I can see that this job is better done by somebody who knows what they're doing and has experience. Really appreciate the detail in this video ... kind of long, but you recorded every step, and I watched every minute of it. Hope your company and business is very successful. If not in Arizona, move to Austin, Texas and I'll be your first customer :-)
Esto es bueno! Great job. I have been a mechanic on the side for years, but never messed with windshields, glass only. This was a great presentation, especially for your first time recording a job. You explained the steps very thoroughly and I might even attempt a windshield change myself based on it. It will cost a bit to get the proper tools though. A couple of questions. My 2001 F-250 recently had the windshield replaced due to a stone chip. The tech didn't glue the moulding to the windshield like you did as a precaution - it came loose on top and slaps against the frame at higher speeds. Can the trim be glued back in place without removing the windshield, and what adhesive would you recommend if it can? Second, my Ford shop manual talks about priming the windshield twice with red primer and once with black primer before setting the glass. You didn't do that. Is that because the sealer is a newer, more advanced product or some other reason? I have subscribed to your channel. Too bad I don't live in AZ, or I'd hire you to fix my trim. Thanks again!
It would be wonderful if you would be kind enough to make a list of the tools you are using. Your tools afford you the opportunity to do that job. Thanks!
I have an f-350 I wonder if I'd be able to do it the way you did ,also you put some kind of glue/ caulking on the windshield first then on the truck itself were they the same kind of glue? and if you could please tell me what it's called or number ...the windshield on my truck is cracked...I found it ,it's urethane
Wow. What a job. I came here because today safelite comes to do my 2001 Excursion windshield and he said with the older cars, he’s concerned that if there’s rust under the trim, he won’t be able to continue and then I would have to bring to a body shop first and they have to replace that metal piece under there. Needless to say I didn’t go ahead with the replacement. was this guy correct, or was he just lacking the knowledge you have of working with these older vehicles.
That's true if you fit a screen on a rusty appature best case scenario your brand new glass stress cracks, worst case you get in a crash and your glass gets pushed out by the airbag as the rest has bubbled and lifted the glue so it's not properly adhered
i can do this one in like 30min or less. dw1537 i believe. you can cut all around. if you use just a smaller hand blade to cut the molding. that one came off easy!! good job!

Where can I get those spatulas for the Sawzall??
👍
Wat primer did u use
Did you replace the windshield because it was cracked or because it was leaking? I can't find a replacement molding for this windshield.
It was cracked, You can use after market molding E-T107B, you might need to remove the windshield to be able to install its molding
is in El Paso Texas?
Good Job! Less moving of the camera would be good, otherwise great information as you are doing the job.
