Growing up in central NY, aka the lake effect snow belt, getting +200” of snow/season (after late Oct through late March), taught me a thing or 3 about living, playing, driving in the cold, snow and ice, as well as the finer points of snow removal… living here in north Texas just makes me miss the opportunity to actually experience 4 unique seasonal weather patterns….
You have plenty of room to push the snow into the ditch along the highway. Try angling your blade and push the snow. I know this was your first time, you'll learn and do better next winter. Oh, hello from a fellow Eastern Oregonian.
I would pay anything to have a angle blade on that cat. The ditch is about 5 feet deep also and I didnt want to get stuck. That would make for a really long day.
@@cableguy2103 -- Hummm, didn't realize you couldn't angle the blade. What year is your Cat? How does the blade attach? Some of the older ones had a pin you could pullout where the blade attached and the blade could be angled manually, (like mine, LOL.....).
The cat is a 1944 5J D2. The blade is attached with a custom bracket. Here is a pic of it. i991.photobucket.com/albums/af31/cableguy103/20170429_101759_zpsooaovlmg.jpg
Should clear the obstacles out of the way, such as the fence enclosures each side, to make room to push the snow. Hamstrung the way it is set up now. But nice rig for moving a lot of snow.
my dad used to plow my grandmothers driveway with a d4 dozer driveway was 1.5 miles long, and always icy. he would park his truck at neighbors house and walk to dozer a couple hundred feet in. he built wings on the front of the plow so it was the width of the driveway and he would do it all in 1 pass down and the pass back would just clean up little thing here and there. wish he still had it. just beats the piss out of the truck
holy the new cats and deere dozers are about $200,000 new wich is a ouch price for new one but the case one at my kubota and case IH dealer he selling case cab dozer for about $80,000
Jeremiah Gard Got our first snowstorm while I was going to work at the Downingtown Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. For a few minutes, I considered turning back, but I pressed on. After work, the roads were clear, and I went home.
It was painful to watch you plow because you are so slow and do not know what you are doing. You should have run all the way out to the road and back bladed enough so that you could turn around then diagonally bladed the snow past your Tposts and the power pole being careful to not hit the phone pedistal. Once you had your drive way turn off plowed then you could have started pushing the snow diagonally off your driveway. Yes I plow snow with a crawler an 1950 JD MC. I have a four way blade but it looks like you have a straight blade but you still can plow you just have to angle your machine to get the snow where you want it.
hartstudebakerkid He needs more practice using that machine! Personally myself I would of back bladed the front entrance instead of building two front piles of snow when exiting the driveway! Cut down couple trees to make xtra areas for snow!
Yeah will see how it does this winter. Supposed to be a bad winter and one of my steering clutches is going out. I plan on replacing the steering clutch this spring.
@@cableguy2103 I Thought I heard some engagement problems .... Thanks for mentioning it ... Btw , you show an admirable amount of patience with some of these people responding .... Yeah we are going to fill those fence enclosures with rock to act as rock jacks for the gate/cable that we sting across when we are gone.
That is 20 min. I will never get back. Whew !

Yeah I wish this cat had a angle blade. Made I will find one some day.
Love the old iron 😎
Thanks I love using old equipment. They dont make them like they used to.
Why don't you back out of the driveway and push everything into the driveway instead of doing it the way you're doing it it would be so much easier
I had to back blade the snow because there was a bunch of traffic on the road. I am not going to be the guy to cause a wreck.
Glad to see you didn't push the snow across the road like some people do , what year is the dozer looks like a really great day for the family .
Its a 1944 5J Cat. Yeah I would of went to the neighbors but there gate was locked.
Do u want to buy another D2 ? Have 2 of them for sale
No thanks. I am good with this one. You might try the website ACMOC for selling the D2's

painful video to watch.
ok boomer
Let your wife give it a go. Nice old dozer I have one like it
Do you know you can put that blade behind that cat then you could pull it going forward.
Nice dozer!!
Dude you got to learn how to drive that thing I’ve been plowing for years with all kind of equipment just watching you I get sea sick
This exactly
Must've been a white Christmas for you guys, eh?
Yeah it was a good winter for use. Lots of snow. Will see how this winter goes. It is supposed to be a bad winter.

You need to work on your shifting a bit
This is headache ally with all the tree growth beside the road .
Yeah I plan on clearing out the path this summer. The snow really pushes the trees down.
The only way to correctly move snow is to get your arse in the seat and do it!
Where is this?
It is up in the mountains of Eastern Oregon.
I thought it was there. Glad you were able to get it running.
Jeremiah Gard
I hear it is very beautiful there.
I'm in the Okanagan Valley, BC, Canada. Similar country when you get back in the hills a bit.
Someday he will learn how to plow snow with a straight blade... focus and you will learn sonny boy
This literally was the first time that I plowed snow with a dozer. Yes it takes time a practice to become efficient.
Cat or IH dozer sounds like an IH but not sure
Its an old Caterpillar D2 dozer.
Jeremiah Gard oh wow its very nice looking can tell you take good care of it
Sounds like you're over revving it. hahahahahaha
I only run about 2/3 throttle. I have never had maxed out.
