"who want to drink at home must have." Can't the words "must have" put somewhere else in the same paragraph? I wonder if you could please explain! Thomas V. A. from District Kottayam Kerala State, India.
It is a very useful lesson. I have learned new vocabulary from this article such as 'expatriates outnumber locals nine to one' I know this is true because I lived there for more than six years and English is widely spoken. UAE is beautiful country, but it has hot weather, so visiting that country in winter is appropriate as the weather becomes very nice. Teacher Jennifer thank so much for this attractive presentation!
Learning like this is so useful!please do these with other much more complicated articles too from other newspapers (New York times for example).Thank you 💗💛
Dear...J..ur previous lessons were more attractive..this does.nt mean that these lessons are.nt but there are some difficult words u don.t mention and we r learners...love u so much
Hi miss, I really enjoyed the lesson .it has some great expressions and vocabulary which were new for me. One thing I would like to point out is that the expression "in the face of" has two meaning . "despite" is one of them.if you don't mind I beg to differ as the despite is not making sense here.the second meaning which is being threatened with something , is best fit here. Because they are facing tough competition around ,they need to give some relaxation to charm the tourist . She left home in the face of(despite ) strong opposition from her parents . In the face of lawsuit ,the company took the product off the market .
Also me, love your lessons, but please dont skip another words/verbs, phrasal verbs of sentence, please could you give full explanation for each sentence, for example "in apparent", "bid to", i couldnt fully understand.....
I lived in Dubai for 10 years. I remember I had to apply for my liquor license to purchase and carry alcohol within Dubai. Due to higher prices in Dubai, people tended to drive to Umm Al Quwain, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah, where no personal alcohol license was required. I believe scrapping the Alcohol tax of 30% will help boost tourism attraction to Dubai.
Since you’re a Canuck, do you speak French? It would be cool seeing you speaking it. Besides French (if including Norman) lexicon amounts for 40% of English vocabulary due to the Norman invasion of England in the Middle Ages. Just an idea.

Hi Jennifer! I've never been to Dubai. Whenever any of my favorite items are on special offer in the supermarket, I buy them in bulk. My favorite words of this lesson: 1) scrap, 2) boost, 3) to be thought to be, 4) in the face of, 5) instrumental, 6) take effect, 7) cite, 8) ex-pats, 9) in bulk, 10) tolerance/tolerant, and 11) rivals.
Thank you so much Jennifer. Your lessons helps me to put my English to the next level. I would like to have you as my personal coach for making much more progress in my English proficiency. In my opinion, you are the best English teacher on UA-cam. Congratulations! You are doing a great job.

Yes, that's true lot of people drive to umm al quine to buy alchol in bulk as price of alcholic beverages too low as to dubai. Having a personal license to consume alchol is a must but, they slack off on that low. UAE is a good country to live..
Hey Jennifer, Great video! I've listen to many songs using just 'got 'in the sentence. It will be great if you make a video regarding the uses of 'got'.
Some explanations are missing , for example , what is ‘ in apparent bid to’ , what does this mean? And idiom ‘in the face of ‘ I think what you explained is not quite accurate. Cause when I put it in the original sentence, it just doesn’t make sense to me 😅

I’m so confused . If alcohol tax is scraped why are people unhappy? Like you don’t have to pay more money for tax
