- It seems like astrologers around the world have been talking and writing about March 2023 for months. The amount of change packed into a few weeks makes one dizzy just thinking about it. Still, we need to wait before we can fully understand the impact of all these astrological shifts. Although Saturn is still a looming presence in the sky, six years of being empowered while in its home signs of Capricorn and Aquarius will quickly slide into the past as the Lord of Karma creates new waves in the indefinite sign of Pisces, beginning on March 7. Saturn is now destined to live in the same sign as Neptune the Dissolver for the next six years as it makes its way through Pisces and Aries. Meanwhile, this month also brings a taste of the next two decades of Pluto in Aquarius, although Pluto only remains in Aquarius this year from March 23 through June 11. Nevertheless, the future is unequivocally impinging on the present. As author William Gibson wrote, “The future is here but it’s unevenly distributed.” Pluto in Aquarius will begin the process of social deconstruction so the future can be more evenly distributed. Even feisty Mars gets into the picture of planetary change as it moves out of its retrograde shadow and steps into watery Cancer on March 25 to trine Saturn in Pisces on March 30.
The month is not without its uncertainty and even confusion. On March 14 through March 17, a cluster of Neptune, the Sun, and Mercury take turns conjoining one another as they each square Mars. We can be easily misled unless we pay careful attention to what is happening. Although we could experience misdirected anger, we can also channel this energy into the highest forms of creativity. It behooves us to engage our imaginations and tune into our intuitions to best utilize this magical moment.
The gentle beginning of the month is announced with a beautiful Venus-Jupiter conjunction on March 1. The Venus-Uranus conjunction on March 30 ends the month with an adrenaline-charged emotional scene that can either be quite thrilling or upsetting. Time will tell. The detail-oriented Virgo Full Moon on March 7 opposes a dreamy Pisces Sun. Hyperactive Mars in Gemini squares both luminaries to spring us into action. Paradoxically, the Full Moon’s trine to wildcard Uranus suggests a surprise breakthrough or unexpected connection if we are willing to embrace the unknown.
The Aries New Moon on March 21 is a powerhouse that occurs within the very first degree of spontaneous Aries. Although we are technically three months into the new year, this energetic boost can jump start those processes that have been lagging behind our best-laid plans. One thing is certain: March will not be a boring month. Change is no longer on the horizon; it has found its way into our lives. Resistance is futile. We must adapt and grow or we will suffer and shrink. The choice is ours to make.

Hi Rick! March actually came in like a lion for us. We’re just coming out of a four-day power outage due to an ice storm. Another snow storm is expected tomorrow. Really taught us some Saturn-like lessons about preparation. Pluto did a number on us as well. We were all ready to punch each other’s lights out by the end of it. People are still barging into my space wanting to fix things, when all I want is some Mercury in Pisces quiet time. I see that Uranus might not make that very easy this first week. Pisces is my fourth house, and I see that Saturn being there might not exactly make it a cake walk. I won’t even get into the experience that Mars retrograde was. Very emotional and intense. Hope you get through this month with as little drama as possible Rick!

It would be so good to hear MORE ABOUT the Effect these different astrological terminology means. So much of this was about planets and numbers … which is cool - however irrelevant if there’s very little interpretation. Astrology is not only about planets and numbers … it’s also about the SOCIAL EFFECTS and personal effects. I’m not sure if I’ll listen to this again - as numbers and names are only (1) part of astrology. The world is going thru SO much … I would think the interpretation is vital and important.
A WD... I appreciate your comment. You raise an important issue, for it is often about balancing fact and figures with the meaning of those facts and figures. It is true that my UA-cam channel does cater to students of astrology more than the casual astrology consumer. I cover a lot of material in these monthly videos and somewhere along the line, I made a choice to make my audience a bit more astrologically educated than the average person. Although I do spend some time on personal and social effects, if I spent more time on important part, I would not have time to cover the other half of the picture. It is a dilemma. And I will try to be more attentive to those who want/need more interpretative matter. Thanks for your comment.

Dear Rick, Thank you for all the astrological clarity as we all wade through mass confusion, yet remain hopeful, creative, inspired, and moving forward in one way or another....
I was laughing out loud and literally had a major epiphany, along with an 'A~HA' moment of deep healing, when you gave us all your astrological description of, 'the dawning of the Age of Aquarius' occurring within the 'next century' or so, and not right this moment in time.........omg!!!...........I was born in 1962 and a few of my babysitters used to read us 'Puff the Magic Dragon' on our walks down to the little creek, aka, Puff's Lair, while playing the 'age of Aquarius' from the movie 'Hair' or was it 'Jesus Christ Superstar' it's all a bit chaotic really, anyway, our babysitters watched over the three of us, maybe a few more, while my father ran a popular steakhouse and bar down the river road, in a time way before DUI's were a thing and our local police officers would just ask us, 'do you think you can make it back to your house....' days. 'Tommy' was another interesting movie, but alas a little frightening at the same time, especially the part where they sang, 'do you think it's alright to leave the boy with Uncle Ernie', was that his name? I can't recall.... but I had nightmares about when they put Tina Turner in a coffin with needles sticking out of it...Total nightmares that the movie invoked upon the unsuspecting young ones that we all were. I mean, Roger Daltry was a super fox, but what a messy era we all survived. I do believe we had the most amazing, gracious, guardian angels who worked over & double time to protect our whole generation of exploring pioneers of altered states and yet, we all survived! Epic times that created epic people with expanded states of consciousness who are all still here for one reason or another, if only to break on through to the other side of another dimension or time ~ Anyhow, Thanks again for your fact~filled astrological explanations of our evolutionary, extra~stellar times we're all traveling through in this thing we call Life! Good thing for all those other books that came along with the baby~boomer era, such as the hitch~hikers guide through the galaxy, Carlos Castenada's series, Bill Grahm Presents, and so many more ~ Okay, until next time, have a wonderful journey!

I have suddenly become obsessed with Eris and learning all about her square to the capricorn cluster in 2020, as well as her general meaning for us. Haha... two good things! If you haven't already read Henry Seltzer's book entitled, "The Tenth Planet: Revelations from the Astrological Eris," I recommend it strongly. It's a major dive into understanding Eris.

I think astrologers need to rethink Mercury in Pisces in terms of this meaning confusion. I'm a Pisces with moon and mercury in Pisces and I'm the least confused person I know and people are constantly coming to me for advise because they know I'm such a clear thinker. People like Ralph Nader, reporter Glenn Greenwald, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are/were all Pisces sun with Mercury in Pisces and I view all of them as exceptionally clear thinkers and highly analytical that comes from more of an intuitive knowing. I think Pisces are very similar to Sagitarius in that they are truth tellers but Pisces is willing to be a martyr to tell the truth because they are so concerned about telling the truth even if it pisses other people off simply because they have such a conviction when it comes to defending people based on truth rather than necessarily agreeing with the position or the people they are defending. None of the Pisces I know are any more or less confused than any other signs out there. The only thing I could possibly say is that when people are addicted to substances that can make them confused and there are certainly more Pisces with a tendency towards addiction. But the whole country is rampant with addiction and high on pot right now and the number one side effect of pot is memory issues. (not to mention Big Pharma drugs). So again, I don't think you can peg confusion on Mercury in Pisces. I think it's just the opposite. Mercury in Pisces signals discerning the truth. It's like what Werner Herzog once said. There's the accountant's truth and then ecstatic truth. Ecstatic truth is what happens when you look at great art or read a poem where you just have an instant knowing that what you are seeing is true. That to me is Mercury in Pisces.

@@Maria-bw2yy I actually have Jupiter, Mars, and Neptune in Sagitarius so I feel like I have a strong sense of the Sagitaruis truth teller of saying things as they see in a very passionate and direct way and often around social justice issues or academia (Jane Fonda is a Sagitaruis) but Pisces takes it a step further because they are so intuitive so it's a higher truth, like an "ecstatic truth" (search for Werner Herzog interviews where he talks about ecstatic truth) and then often there's a martyr component to it like they are willing to speak the truth even if it upsets others or people in power because they just believe so much in the spiritual nature of truth, espeically when it comes to defending people or principled ideas. Ralph Nader is a perfect example of this. If you don't know who he is, he ran for president 3 times as part of the Green Party and people got mad at him for being a 3rd party spoiler. But he not only knew this wasn't true, but also wouldn't have cared anyway because he understood the higher truth and importance of having 3rd parties. Almost all of the only real reporters left right now are Pisces: Glenn Greenwald, Aaron Mate', Matt Taibi. These are all examples of people who will defend ideas or people they don't even necessarily agree with simply because they value truth.

Yes, you called me out on an astrological bias that I went on and on about. I stand by what I said, but admit that it's only ONE way in which Mercury in Pisces manifests. Remember (I am talking to myself now), that Pisces is a visionary sign and one driven by spiritual pursuit and heightened imagination. Imagination can be used in the progression toward amazing scientific breakthroughs, wondrous creations of artistic genius, and the development of sound ideas. It all depends on how Mercury is aspected and the social context of the situation. Mercury in Pisces square Neptune might be unhinged dreaming whereas Mercury sextile to Saturn (Saturn in Taurus or Capricorn) might be a software engineer. Additionally, we need to consider the etymology of the word "confusion," for Pisces draws power from the act of confusion. "Con" is a Latin prefix meaning "with" or "together with." Fusion is also from the Latin to "pour" or to "melt." It's the act of melting things together. When we melt together with others or someone else, this is upsetting to the ego, whose job is to establish boundaries and separateness. Love is confusing because apparent boundaries melt away. Confusion is nearly always leads to some type of spiritual pursuit as we seek answers to the questions that arise when boundaries melt. There's many ways to look at each sign and each planet in each sign. I appreciate the time you took to widen my narrow description of Mercury in Pisces. Thank you.
