    Talk about memories with a knife! Scout knives were the only thing I carried from about I was 8 until 13. I put those knives through the grinder as a kid. I need to pick a couple up so my boys can experience the joy of this knife! Another great knife from RR!

    What I like most about RR is the variety. So many choices with patterns and scales. I actually own a RR Kamp King, same one you reviewed here, and even the non-knife nuts are impressed with that beastly beauty. Good video.

    That’s a bit of gap in the springs. But otherwise it looks pretty good. Cut decent enough once it gripped. Probably because of how thick that blade is (1/16th inch!)
    Thanks much for the shout out. Minor correction, the patent didn’t lapse. The only patent on the Kamp King was the can opener which expired around 1956. Imperial, or more accurately, Taylor Brands, allowed the the TM to lapse May 2, 2016. I do not see a current owner so I’m not sure if SMKW picked it up or not. Hopefully, they did. That would be a sign they will be doing more with scout knives.

    I love my SAK knives but I wanted to try other options so I got me this one too. As I'm living in Europe I had to order it in the USA, so included the shipping the price was doubled. And it is still worth the money. It looks nice and the quality is better than the comparable products from Schrade and Boker Magnum.

    I’m one of those weirdos that likes the old imperial clam shell knives from 56-88, but it’s awesome that rough Ryder bought the trademark and makes it with jigged bone and solid bolsters. My only complaint with a lot of rough Ryders, they love making their knives thick with 3 springs, and it’s just bulkier in my pocket. Also wish they would have used their T10 carbon steel on this one. I have the classic carbon 2 scout knife, and while it’s really cool, it’s too thick for my 5th pocket, where I usually carry sub 4 inch slip joints. Cool video man

  • @jelkel25
    @jelkel25 5 років тому

    Haven't seen that model in the UK yet. Only just got the RR tan jigged bone camp knife. Yours appears to have the same main blade as the jigged bone. After just a tickle on the strop took it out to the woods and was great, that blade did the business, its a good whittler. The chunkiness of the build is appealing too. The shape of the screwdriver and "caplifter" makes me tempted to grind the screwdriver into a chisel and keep that knife just for the woods.

    • @BigRedEDC
      @BigRedEDC  5 років тому +1

      I have never had an issue with the sharpness on RR. They might not come razor sharp but as you said, a few passes on a strop and they are good to go!!! That sounds like a decent mod to do...would make a good woods knife for sure!! Thanks for watching my friend!!

    Comparison numbers from my official BSA pocketknife, vintage about two years ago. (I didn't have one as a young Scout. The local Scout shop had them on clearance for ten bucks, and from looking at the web store, that particular pattern has been discontinued by Scouting. Shame really.)
    Weight: 94 g, 3.3 oz.
    Length, bail not included: 3 3/4" closed, 6 1/4" open, about 2 3/8" cutting edge
    Thickness: 1/2"
    It does have the brass spacer on the back. It does not have a half stop on any blade.
    The RR KK (had to do it, sorry) is obviously a worth successor. Frankly, I think Blue's rating is a little low, but maybe I'm wearing khaki-colored glasses.
    I know you said this isn't the place to talk classic American muscle, but I'm going to do it anyway. My first car was a 1976 Dodge Charger with a 400ci engine and a Rochester Thermoquad. That could seriously burn gas!
