- After a thousand years this is done. I'm aware of the mistakes in it but honestly I've been working on this for so long (not to mention this was to learn the software I was using) that I'm content to just leave it as is and do better in the future.
I have changed this thumbnail so many times x.x
I love this take where Onestar goes to the dark forest with Darktail! Both cause the idea of them looking at each other and going "welp." is hilarious, and also because I will never stop being furious with Onestar for withholding lifesaving medicine from Shadowclan when they had a pandemic. Everything else he did pales in comparison with that, and no he did /not/ redeem himself just by killing his evil son.
The chase scene and inclusion of Tallstar and Mudclaw is also so cool, and I like that you left it ambiguous at the end what happens after they chase off Smoke and Darktail.
I agree that the books have an issue with redemption just... as a concept, it's very black and white in the books
And with onestar it's very hard to say he is "good" or "bad" because he has made many many choices and in the world of warrior cats those don't end with death, so while I don't think taking on darktail would have been enough to make up for the actions he tooke (because of smoke and darktail), there is quite a lot of time and the allies willing to help to begin taking those steps, but, only if he makes an effort
I also enjoy the idea that the afterlife isn't strictly a heaven/hell thing, that it still has the defending territory aspect rather than morallity magic keeping everyone in starclan/dark forest. So I wanted to imply that you can switch sides
Cant describe the amount of satisfaction I got when Smoke appeared at the end
yes! the music motif at the end was perfect to bring it full circle!
I'm not gonna lie I thought Tallstar and Mudclaw would cut him off and help Darktail and Smoke

tbh, this is the first ever amv/pmv that made me understand more about Darktail and Onestar.
This is such a beautiful masterpiece, I am really disappointed at the fact you don't have enough subs, because your animations are incredible! I am hoping to see more from you!
takes time to build up viewers im finding ha, but im glad that you found this helpful for understanding the story better, the wiki was my main resource for getting the info (i dont remember how prominent the backstory was in the books and i wasnt about to reread them to find out lol)
This video is scripted so well and I love how complex and varied your shots are. This is such a clear and easy to follow rendition of their story, probably the best telling of it that I have seen! With ideas like this, you deserve ten times the viewership! Excited to see what you come up with next!
ahh thank you! darktail has a pretty interesting origin that dosnt get expanded on in the books outside of i believe onestar briefly going over his affair with smoke and a short story of how he got to skyclan, neither really makes a clear timeline/ is easily remembered by fans, plus this song was prefect for it haha

Personally, Smoke, Darktail and Onestar were the villains.
Onestar because (everyone knows why at this point, causing unnecesary wars, make indirectly a villain, left his mate)
Smoke being obssesed with revenge and transform a kit into killer machine.
and Darktail kill innocent cats, destroy the other clans which had done nothing to him, just because his papa left him
theyre all pretty iffy morally, but thats what makes their stories interesting so i wouldnt change it :3
Onestar’s confession really did change all of that WHYY 😢

This is awesome!!! This was really entertaining and unique, and everything was really different from each other despite it being almost 9 mins long. Also 9 minutes long?? Oh my god, that takes a lot of effort. I really love that chase scene at the ending with darktail and his mom, that was really cool

Oh my god!!! Such an interesting way to tell Darktail’s and Onestars’s dynamic! This honestly puts a much more in depth understanding on their relationship and I LOVE IT! Such an incredible job!
I wish the books were clearer with their story and not so spaced out with the story beats cause it's such a fun dynamic, thank you for the comment , they mean alot!

I love the story here so much, especially the ending because if feels like Mudclaw and Tallstar save Onestar in the end as one last act of good will towards him, and it's left really ambiguous what will happen next. I love Onestar in the books and this characterizes him very well.
That was the idea to keep it open since onestar is such a polarizing character!
As for tallstar and mudclaw, they both have alot tied to onestars history and I feel it would have to be addressed for them to find peace in death since they both died before coming to head with onewhisker, but above that they were clanmates and I doubt they'd let onestar be terrorized and watch ideally by (even mudclaw, cause despite his flaws, he always put windclan first when givin the choice, for better or worse)
Onestar is for sure one of the most interesting characters in the books, I'm glad you liked my interpretation!
@@miaconmoth3537 also, I like how Onestar just kinda sat there and listened to the story even though he probably knew most of it, probably out of shame and being consigned to his death, and only last minute deciding to make a run for it anyways
My thought process here is, I dont think they ever had a long talk in life. There were a few threats here and there but neither ever spelled all their feeling on the situation to each other
On top of that darktails entire life revolved around onestars choice to refuse smoke a place in windclan so it'd be more satisfying if he got to just air everything out before "taking revenge" and to have onestar stew in the fact that , yes, his actions had a negative effect despite his intentions and now he needed to reconcile with that.
As for why I had him run when he did, smokes apperance distracted darktail enough that onestar had the presence of mind to hightail it (he dosnt read as the self martyring type, so having him just take a beating without resistance felt wrong)

This is so good! Love the work you’ve put into this. I almost posted a map call to this song for a similar concept with Darktail and Onestar, it’s cool to see someone already did something with it!
there's a couple videos of this song about darktail( i didn't check before i made this lol), so if you wanted to do it id say go for it, everyone has a different interpretation and a MAP would have a totally new feel than one person if your worried about it being similar , regardless im glad you enjoyed it!

This is so amazing! I keep watching it on repeat and am just in awe of the storytelling! I only read up to where Darktail joined skyclan so even if i missed part of what happened, this video is such a clear depiction of what i missed and easy to follow! Great work!

yes that was tallstar and mudclaw! i wanted to imply that redemption was possible because honestly i dont think either mudclaw or onestar deserved cat hell even if both of them made bad choices, obviously you'd have to /want/ to change but both onestar and mudclaws motives were always born out of wanting the best for windclan and that in and of itself is a noble ideal so i think they embody ' the road to hell is paved with good intentions'
This is an outstanding PMV! I love so much about this! Almost definitely my favorite portrayal of Onestar and Darktail I've ever seen! You need more subscribers omg. The end sequence was one of my favorite parts to do cause I didn't have to fit it with any lyrics ha, and yeah at this point I wasn't at a point where I was confident in doing another animated part so pictures it was! Thank you!!

Possibly, but they both ended up dead in the canon storyline too so maybe it was always gonna be lose lose for them

Could be true, I couldn't find a cannon fate for her so I spoke too sone on that comment above, maybe her and darktail got separated and she lived the rest of her life with a new home or learned to live as a loner. Either way it would be cool to see what actually happened if they ever put out a novella or manga or somthing

Tbh onestar should’ve gotten fully killed (as in his spirit also gotten ‘killed’) by darktail… he kinda deserved it
while that is one way to resolve the conflict between the two it dosnt really address the actual problem they had (onestar having commitment issues and caring more about his clan reputation than the family he made knowing he couldnt be with them without leaving/losing his clan, and darktail wanting connection ((thats the whole idea with the kin and obsession with finding onestar)))
so i left the ending open, maybe onestar does get rejected by starclan and killed, maybe he lives and actually takes responsibility for smoke and darktail by talking things out, up to you considering canon dosnt resolve their problem in a satisfying way imo

This is a great pmv! But what exactly was going on at the end of the chase scene it's a.tad.confusing
i wanted to have the 'story' resolve and i had a whole instrumental section to use
basicly darktail and smoke reunite and begin chasing onestar to get their revenge, by chance onestar crosses the border where tallstar and mudclaw are patrolling, the windclan cats chase off darktail and smoke (onestar helping mudclaw to show he still sees them as being on the same side despite everything) , once the fight is over onestar exspresses regret, and the fade to black is supposed to imply they talk it out. since mudclaws still got lingering darkforest traits the audience knows its possible to switch sides, so onestar will follow the same path
i know this bit was rushed but honestly its headcannon and not the main focus of the video, i hope this helps tho

I like the version according to which Onestar ended up in the Dark Forest in the first place. This would be fair to all the (very many) people he hurt. I also wonder who saved him along with Tallstar. Was it Mudclaw? His eyes are orange instead of Tallstar's blue because he also ended up in the Dark Forest first?
It was mudclaw! And yes I wanted to imply that mud had also been in the dark forest (he did some stuff that wouldn't have been up to the warrior code throughout the series) and that there was a possibility that onestar could transition to star clan
I dont think starclan and the dark forest are as interesting if they're just heaven/hell lite, so its more like territory borders, starclan would have more numbers and would have the say in who gets let into the better land/ larger group
