If you find yourself dreading Bonfire Night because of your dog's anxiety around fireworks, then the best time to start preparing is now. The sooner you can get in there, the better the results your going to get and the easier it's going to be when Bonfire Night comes around.
That's why I'm really excited to be partnering with Dorwest to bring you this three part series on preparing your dog's for fireworks.
In this first part, we're going to be looking at things you can start doing now, so one month in advance of fireworks night, so that you can make sure that you are really prepared. So, what are some things that you can be doing?
The first thing you want to start doing is work on a desensitisation programme to fireworks noises. Let's take a quick look at a demonstration. What we're going to do to start with is we're going to bring up a desensitisation playlist. I'm going to start the volume as low as possible so volume one or two.
What I'm going to do is have this playing in the background and I'm going to do other things. I'm just going to say sit. Yes. You can also do something like this with a Kong or a LickiMat. And now that he's nice and engaged with the treats, all I'm going to do is slowly turn the volume up. Yes, go. Now to start with, we're just going to do this for a few minutes. So five minutes at the absolute max, then we're going to turn off the noise and then we're going to start again later, so that it stays really nice and easy for your dog.
The second thing I'd recommend doing now is starting to introduce Dorwest's Scullcap & Valerian Tablets. These tablets are designed to support with anxiety and they do take a few weeks to kick in which is why you want to start introducing them now. In preparation for Bonfire Night Dorwest currently have 25% off on Scullcap & Valerian and Valerian Compound when they are bought together. You can use code FIREWORKS23 to redeem your offer.
