My English teacher bought me Alice in Wonderland in this edition as a goodbye gift, when I was nine or ten years old. It's really my most beautiful book ; I would read it with awe as a child. So glad we still find such beautiful editions today. You have a fantastic collection, congratulations !
I live by Stratford upon Avon and have a yearly pass to the Shakespeare trust houses. Every time I visit I buy another of these books, they are the only edition I buy new and I love them the most too ❤
I have one of my favourite books, The Phantom of The Opera, from that collection. I bought it because it was the cheapest edition I would have never gueesed it was something so adorable!!
The Secret Garden is one of my absolute favorites too! I finally read Sherlock Holmes about 2 years ago, and they are SO GOOD! They don't really read like classics, other than the setting. They feel like they could have been written in modern day. Just really good mysteries with fantastic characters. I've read most of them now.
That cover art really is gorgeous, I've never really looked at these closely. I tend to prefer Everyman's library, or Oxford world classics (if translations are good). Can't wait to see more of the series!
Thank you for sharing this collection with us! They are beautiful editions. I appreciated the look at the contents and font, etc. I had seen them at a bookstore before and they aren't to my taste due to the small size. I collect the B&N paperbacks and the Penguin Black spines - I like that they aren't precious so I can throw them in my bag, I like the art on the covers (mostly), and I like the font size and paper (and I don't feel guilty highlighting or annotating). For my absolute favorite books, I also collect a hardback edition if I can find a nice one that is just to page through and not to highlight or annotate in (like the Rockwell Kent illustrated Moby Dick). I can't wait to see all the rest of your collection, I just love looking at people's books. :)
Great review! I absolutely love these for all the reasons you mentioned and am cognizant of the negative (thin paper, small, a couple are abridged, etc,) but for the value/prize these are pretty awesome! I’m in my 50s and have a daughter and a little niece that are bookworms and can totally see myself passing these on to them at some point…just adorable collection
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I'm beginning to collect these myself, in some of the older editions and these newer ones. The font size and the paper and portability make them very collectable and useable.
I loved Bleak House. I cried and cried. I loved Our Mutual Friend. I also loved Great Expectations. I was frustrated with Pickwick Papers. I craved a plot. Your collection is lovely!
The thing about The Age of Innocence is that half the plot happens behind the scenes, part of the value of the book exists in its reread value because you can trace this plot. It’s possibly the best example of how Edith Wharton works in subtleties, one of the benefits of it being only about 350 pages is that it’s not the biggest commitment to reread in order to find the details and symbolism that Edith Wharton hid in the book. It’s definitely not for everyone and for people that go into this book without knowing this at first it can be such a slog (I know from personal experience), but if you are looking in the right places when reading this book it becomes apparent why it’s considered her best work. I also want to mention that I love your channel, it’s such a great source for Russian literature info and recommendations which was helpful because I was very confused and intimidated by Russian Literature (I assumed it was very difficult). Have a great day!
I have been collecting Collector’s Library put out by Barnes and Noble in early 2000s. I also love small books and they were very affordable. I believe they sold to MacMillan and rebranded them. They are very similar to original except for cover designs. Also prominent color was red cloth bound with red ribbon. It had a silhouette of a schooner as part of the old brand. Love them and still look for them used.
Love those old Collector's Library ones so much! Many a long night poring over the tiny print was well worth it just to have each book in such an aesthetic edition
I haven’t got any of this beautiful collection but I think I’m going to have to get one soon, the choice of which one is such a difficult decision though! I love that the New York library stamps the book, my local bookshop Blackwells in oxford stamps them as well, I think it’s such a wonderful thing so you remember where you got your book. I’m always searching for new places to go that stamp the books you buy :)
I'm making my way through the entire Sherlock Holmes collection and I'm loving it so far! My favourites are the Hound of the Baskervilles and the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, hope you can get to them soon! Also this collection is so beautiful and I've always wanted to collect them, hopefully one day I can ❤️
I love this collection too. For the first time, I saw the collection at the British museum and just got Emma by Jane Austen at Shakespeare and company. Really love this book’s beauty and size as you said. Want to collect more books of these.
Lovely collection, I especially love your copy of Blake's Songs of Innocence. I read my first Pan Macmillian a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised that even though the book is small the font is really clear and legible.
I have this publication of book with Middle March. I ended up not being able to finish it unfortunately because the print was so small. Looks like all the books aren't pocket size. Pretty cool.
I found you through Emmie. I have yet to watch you two in Dickens Vs. Tolstoy, but the way emmie talks about you I just had to check out your channel. I can see why you and her are friends. Such wonderful minds on to beautiful souls. Oh my! I now have another collection of classics I must collect (I collect the B&N Classics and am almost done). I need more collections to collect 😆.
i now have three Pan Macmillan books, thanks to your recommendation, two were gifts (which I had and have read, but not this beautiful edition. ) Jane Eyre and Emma. Today I received The Secret Garden, I have never read it or seen the movies of it. So, it is coming to me completely new. I am looking forward to it.
Off topic but I think yours are the prettiest eyes I have ever seen. Whenever i watch a video of yours I always find myself mesmerized by them! Try wearing a gold or rose gold shimmery eyeshadow. It would make them pop even more and im interested to see how that would look 😹💕
Lovely collection! I just got my first Macmillan book- Gaskell's North and South last month and I found the font too small. I was disappointed to realize that because I absolutely love the cover illustrations and gilding and the lovely blue. As an artist, I must save my eyes for the art and reading, even if I end up not getting the most aesthetic (to me) book LOL
We sell some of them in our (German) bookstore and they are very popular. I only own The Phantom of the Opera. I would only buy books that I had already read though
Fun fact! When Leo Tolstoy read Madame Bovary, he was inspired to write Anna Karenina. I was reading about it. And thats why that book reminds eceryone of Anna Karenina 🤷🏻♂️😉
I recently read Tess of the D'Ubervilles and loved it so much. Agnes Grey is a book i need to get, i liked The Tennant of Wildfell Hall. Omg you have to read Sherlock!! Its so good
Thanks to you I just ordered some of these gems myself. My only mild concern regarding the Macmillan Collector's Library edition is the fact that some of the published novels are abridged ( the Count of Monte Cristo, Les Mis, The three musketeers). Does anyone have a list of the unabridged/abridged novels in this edition? I want to read them but if they are shortened i would prefer buying the penguin black classics or the oxford classics ones
these books are beautiful, i just got one secondhand. i love how they look and feel to hold but i hate the paper so much im somewhat hesitant to get any more :-(
Hi Carolyn, or followers do you know if the Pan Macmillan Collector’s Library is still growing? Are Macmillan still publishing new titles in these editions? Thanks Claire B xxx
If you could see what a classics selection of 40 books looks like in french or german, maybe you'd be surprised. Or any other language for that matter. Some of these books would never find their place there. Like importance of being earnest, or happy prince, for instance. Only in a broader collection, of say 100 titles. As there are so many incredible books and writers not included here. The likes of Goethe, Cervantes, Manzoni, Mann, Hamsun, Proust...
Ok beautiful editions no doubt! Also wanted to know what is your favorite illustrated edition of any book that you currently own? _sinceyougraduatedinartillustration_ 😊
I have four Tattoos of the Characters from Alice in Wonderland in the Line drawings, Alice, the White Rabbit (with the Watch, not the playing card), the Cheshire Cat and The Mad Hatter.
emmie brought me here. i can see why you two are friends. both gentle, intelligent and adorable people.
I always thought classics were boring but you actually inspired me to read some, thanks!❤
My English teacher bought me Alice in Wonderland in this edition as a goodbye gift, when I was nine or ten years old. It's really my most beautiful book ; I would read it with awe as a child. So glad we still find such beautiful editions today.
You have a fantastic collection, congratulations !
I'm not sure what it is but you have such a gentle way of speaking that is so soothing to listen to. You exude calm. 💗
I live by Stratford upon Avon and have a yearly pass to the Shakespeare trust houses. Every time I visit I buy another of these books, they are the only edition I buy new and I love them the most too ❤
I recently saw a few copy of these books at my local bookstore and I can't believe how adorably short and small these books are! I loved them!
I have one of my favourite books, The Phantom of The Opera, from that collection. I bought it because it was the cheapest edition I would have never gueesed it was something so adorable!!
LOVE the Tess book. Although that quote makes me cry every time.
"Which do we live on--a splendid one or a blighted one?"
"A blighted one."
Ahhh! Carolyn! I had to pause the video at 17:34 to say what!? Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen!!! Okay, back to the video, lol! 😊
Loved seeing 👀 these - looking forward to the next bookshelf tour video.
Your speech is so well-read. it is immediately clear that all this is English literature
The Secret Garden is one of my absolute favorites too! I finally read Sherlock Holmes about 2 years ago, and they are SO GOOD! They don't really read like classics, other than the setting. What an enjoyment to watch your updated classics collections.

This is the earliest I’ve been in your video! Yay!! Love the sound of your speaking voice btw. 🌸
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I'm beginning to collect these myself, in some of the older editions and these newer ones. The font size and the paper and portability make them very collectable and useable.
Carolyn, you made my day! I absolutely love your Pan MacMillian's collection! 💖
I loved Bleak House. I cried and cried. I loved Our Mutual Friend. I also loved Great Expectations. I was frustrated with Pickwick Papers. I craved a plot. Your collection is lovely!

In this seeming end of American democracy, your videos are the only thing that bring me comfort. You’re doing great things.
Another really great feature of the Tempest is the costuming, which I would expect you to appreciate more than others. Thx Carolyn, enjoyed
You have the most awesome collection of any BookTuber! I remember when I was obsessed with Everyman's Library hardbacks.
I have been collecting Collector’s Library put out by Barnes and Noble in early 2000s. I also love small books and they were very affordable. I believe they sold to MacMillan and rebranded them. Thank you for uploading today, I had a really tough day and your videos always make me feel better
It’s my absolute pleasure! I’m so sorry to hear you had a tough day, but I do hope this made you feel better!!! Brighter days are ahead! 🌞✨
I love this collection too. For the first time, I saw the collection at the British museum and just got Emma by Jane Austen at Shakespeare and company. Really love this book’s beauty and size as you said. Want to collect more books of these.
A couple years ago I discovered these books because of you and my collection has been slowly growing :D
Such a beautiful collection, I think they're my favourite to collect too! I adore them! Can't wait to see the rest of your library!!
I think Heidi is a perfect read for the summer actually. I loved it so much
beautiful! beautiful! beautiful! Books are great interior materials.
I love these editions, can't wait to have enough to fill a shelf, only have 3 so far, A Town Like Alice, The African Queen and Oliver Twist

You must have a wonderful family to help you obtain all those books. You're a very lucky woman, and I wish you well. Cheers. 😋
Excellent video ... Looking forward to Part 2!
My only qualm with the MacMillian is the very white paper, when it comes to classics i prefer an off white bc it feels more love/used/vintage
Love, love, laugh 😌
I love your hair in a side part! It's so cute and sweet
Larkrise to Candleford is wonderful. There is a great TV adaptation made quite a few years ago
Lovely collection! I just got my first Macmillan book- Gaskell's North and South last month and I found the font too small. I was disappointed to realize that because I absolutely love the cover illustrations and gilding and the lovely blue. Girl you need to watch the Larkrise to Candleford tv series after you read it! It’s SUCH a beautiful show, makes me cry every time I watch it
so many beautiful books in your collection 💞 looking forward to future episodes!
I recently read Tess of the D'Ubervilles and loved it so much.
Agnes Grey is a book i need to get, i liked The Tennant of Wildfell Hall.
Omg you have to read Sherlock!! Its so good
i love the look of those and don't have any of those...gorgeous!
You're going to LOVE Madame Bovary, it's a great French classic.
Thanks to you I just ordered some of these gems myself. Hermann Hesse is my favorite author! I highly recommend reading Siddhartha soon ❤️
+TBR we are catching up on our bookish comment and videos today! :!)
My favorite editions 🤩😍
You should read The Master and Margerita. The Pan MacMillan edition is the best translation too.
I need these editions wow 😍
I adore pretty end paper. It's always a nice surprise.
No Oliver Twist?
I love Oscar Wilde's Fairytales.
Why do I always fall in love with youtubers....
Oh God. I wanna read "The Happy Prince and Other Stories" by Oscar Wilde now. Wrote that on my list. Thank you, Carolyn! :)
You have to read The Hunchback of Notre Dame! It made me cry so hard in the best way!
It’s on my shelves! Hopefully I’ll get to it sooner rather than later :)
Thanks You!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love your nails!! So cute😊
I use colored pencils to highlight on this papered books
I suggest you read 'Lark Rise to Candleford', I really love this book. I also had the audiobook for it and it was excellent.
Hello. Lovely collection. I wanted to know are Great Expectations and Bleak House abridged or unabridged?
Hey Carolyn, which translator’s edition of “The Little Prince” is best for english readers?
Carolyn can you review chiltern edition! thank you!
these books are beautiful, i just got one secondhand. i love how they look and feel to hold but i hate the paper so much im somewhat hesitant to get any more :-(
You pronounce Hesse with the last e (sounds like the first e too). Lovely collection!
You holding up the Pickwick Papers gave me unpleasant flashbacks haha
The little Princess
Has found her place...
Larkrise to candleford is excellent there is a BBC series that is too adorable to watch
Caroline you should read “Fortunata and Jacinta” by Galdós
3:50
Quick note: the last e in Hesse isn't silent, so the is an eh at the end
I've met with these books in Vienna. So I bought "A picture of Dorian Grey"
I want to collect them too. 😭
Oh no is it true that some of the Pan Macmillan Collector’s Library are *abridged* which ones and how could I find out before I buy them 😞. Claire B
Hi Carolyn, or followers do you know if the Pan Macmillan Collector’s Library is still growing? Are Macmillan still publishing new titles in these editions? Thanks Claire B xxx
Those are amazing 🤩
Jonique'a Smith:I think Pinocchio comes after Alice!🤥👩
Where you buy all those lovely books
I knew the tiger poem from Calvin and Hobbes.

Hello from British Columbia Canada
🇨🇦👋👍♥️🌲🧘♀️🌲🚵♀️🌲🎨🖌☕☕☕😉
These editions are absolutely gorgeous but the font seem so small🤓 I already wear glasses 😞
The font is quite small, and I wear glasses too…but it doesn’t seem to bother my eyes! 👍🏻
I have four Tattoos of the Characters from Alice in Wonderland in the Line drawings, Alice, the White Rabbit (with the Watch, not the playing card), the Cheshire Cat and The Mad Hatter.
Try chiltren’s classics; you won’t regret it
I Love these books for collecting but the print is tiny.
You should add Indian classics in your collection … 😊
Who knows of other publishers that make books of this size or similar?
Do you annotate this edition ?
🤍🤍🤍
