Fellow 6b here. Your garden is amazing. So glad to have found your Chanel. A breakdown of seed starting vs planting our would be so helpful!

Hi Peter & Hilary, Everything looks so nice and healthy! I saw Hilary in a short and she looked just beautiful! I'm curious why you are not growing corn? I added a small square patch and it is doing great! Of course in mine Zone 5, I am way behind you! Looking forward to seeing next month! Great job!

Hi Penny! Thank you so much! We actually are growing corn in about a 10x10ft bed. It is just below knee high currently. I didn’t include it in the walk around since there wasn’t a whole lot to say about it but hopefully it will be looking nice by the next garden tour! Wishing you all the best in your season!

Really liked the video. I appreciate all of the effort that you put into making these videos enjoyable to watch. It keeps me motivated and excited to spend time on my growing spaces.
Impressive size of plants. I cannot believe how large your young plants are at time of planting out. I have a pretty hard time getting my starts to grow large quickly. I’m not sure if the cells are too small and I need to up-pot them more quickly, or if the grow light set up is really the huge difference maker? I don’t have a lot of space for grow lights in my house, or else I would have done it by now. I just use south facing windows and get them outside in the cell trays as soon as temperatures allow. It doesn’t seem to be going very well.
At any rate, thank you again.

Thanks Zach, appreciate the comment and support! Yes, the indoor set up made some pretty big plants this year! That combined with the warm May made for quick growth. I hope you have a wonderful season! ☺️🙏

Nice plants, what are you feeding them and how often you water them?

Thank you! Depends a bit on the plant but for fertilizer I amended the beds with espoma garden tone, home made compost and trucked in leaf compost last fall. Then in the spring I mulched with the decomposed straw bales. These have extra nitrogen due to the conditioning process from the previous year. So far I haven't fertilized this year after the fall amendment and the top dressing of decomposed straw. During the growing season I watch each plant / bed individually to decide what to do next.
For watering it obviously depends on your weather, climate, raised bed vs inground and soil among other things. But we tend to have to water more than normal (about 2 inches per week on average) because we grow mostly in raised beds and created a soilless mix that drains well but tends to dry out sooner. So many hot days we are watering everyday. Luckily we have drip systems to help. Hope that answers your questions!

Lovely garden, new subscriber here. I'm developing new gardens on a large acreage in central Ohio. How did you source your wood chips and straw bales? Really enjoyed your garden tour.

Hi Annie! How exciting 🙌. Wood chips we mostly used chipdrop but that could be difficult if you are in a very rural area. For straw we found a local wheat farmer. Not organic, but we knew what was used on it at least. We started our gardens fall/winter of 2022, 2023 was our first growing year and now we are in our second year and loving it! Best of luck
