Pastor Doug, Luke 2:14!! So good to think and contemplate that moment in time. Thank you for sharing in book Heaven Misplaced. Love to see you help Officer Tatum’s show. In Oregon now and appreciate you sharing God’s truth.
"Common grace" could be a synonym in some instances. Take the Psalm where David prays "take not thy spirit from me" -- that implies that some operation of the spirit can be removed from an unfaithful man (as in the case of King Saul before David).
"The common operations of the Spirit are the effects, benefits, drawings and gifts of God’s Spirit on all people, elect and reprobate alike." ~ Travis Fentiman from here: reformedbooksonline.com/the-common-operations-of-the-spirit/
@@CanonPress Common grace is a neo-Calvinist doctrine encapsulated by the Three Points of Common Grace of the Christian Reformed Church. Common grace leads directly to theological liberalism as the CRC and Calvin Seminary so clearly demonstrate. Old Princeton went liberal because of common grace.
Solomon was probably elect but he tolerated sacrifices to other gods in the high places because of his foreign wives. Solomon was circumcised as a SIGN of the covenant.
"Common operations of the Spirit" is NOT the same thing as having the Spirit. Secondly, Wilson is cleverly dodging the actual question. IF baptism gives someone the Spirit they must be regenerated by baptism. However an unregenerate person receives NOTHING from baptism, including the Spirit. The common operations of the Spirit therefore conveys nothing other than a providential guiding of that reprobate person to the decreed goal of perdition in everlasting punishment.
Head IV The blessings which are effectually conveyed by these means to the Lord’s elect, or chosen ones. Mat. 22:14. Many are called, but few are chosen. I. By these outward ordinances, as our Lord makes the reprobate inexcusable, so, by the power of his Spirit, he applies unto the elect, effectually, all saving graces purchased to them in the covenant of redemption, and maketh a change in their persons. The Sum of Saving Knowledge NOWHERE does the Edinburgh Edition of the Westminster Standards even remotely suggest that the reprobate partake of the Holy Spirit through the outward means of the sacraments.
An unconverted person is not in the covenant because the covenant of grace is invisible and is given only to the elect. The outward signs are only SIGNS of the actual and EFFECTUAL covenant of grace made only with the elect.
@provotoprevo2609 I guess the Bible is always right. I should have said that an unconverted person could be reprobate. Some unconverted persons may yet be effectually called if they are eternally decreed to election.

If "the common operation of the Spirit" are not regeneration nor sanctification, what are they ?

PROVIDENCE! But where does providence take the wicked and reprobate person? Perdition!

@@provotoprevo2609 I guess I know that the Bible does not teach the false doctrine of the objective covenant. The federal vision error is heresy.
