Ryan, dude you are an excellent teacher. I've been watching countless videos of yours, and it just amazes me, I've only been playing guitar for the last year, and I've learned more watching your videos than I've ever looked up and researched, the way you intertwine the lesson of the song, but also some things to help understand how the CAGED system works, and some Major/Minor Scale pentatonics, which trying to learn yourself, reading or watch some other UA-camrs explain is like trying to learn Chinese! You do an amazing job, and I wanna thank you for making these videos!
Another great lesson. You're building quite an impressive data base for lessons. Love it. This song almost brought me to tears at MSG last year when temple of the dog played it.
UGH you got to see temple of the dog... lucky! It's a very beautiful song. And thanks for that - I'm not stopping until I die, so it's only gonna get bigger!
When I first heard of Mad Season I had no idea Mike McCready was in the band but as soon as I heard this intro I just knew it was him right away. I love how you can just tell who the guitar player is by the way they play and how it sounds. Great lesson man!
I am really impressed with your style of teaching! (I too, am a music teacher) I used this video to first learn this somg on guitar. Now I will transfer it to an ukulele instrumental. I learned the song by the end of the video! well done! Thank you for the help! Subscribed ✔
Hey man, you probably won't see this because this video is pretty old, but I just wanted to thank you. I started playing guitar over a decade ago, but I quit when I stopped making progress. This year I decided to pick it up again and I decided to try and learn this song because I love that opening run. I tried to learn it from other videos but no one else did quite as good a job breaking it down into parts and showing how to do it. This is the first "real" ass song I ever learned to play (Aside from, like, Smoke on the Water or Fell in Love With a Girl; basic power chord stuff) and you taught me. Cheers.
It's been 8 months since I first found this video and decided to pick back up my guitar and start playing again. In that time I have went from 1 electric guitar to 6 of them. Fender Jag, Fender Jazzmaster, Gibson Les Paul, Univox Hi-Flier, Epiphone Casino, and Peavy Predator. I have started a 90's cover band... and I now play every single day. So happy I decided to learn to play this song. Irony is I have learned so many songs, I had to come back to re-learn some of this one. hahahaha Thanks Ryan! You're a kickass guy.
@@RyanLendt Definitely will post some videos once we tighten up. You should see the 2014 special edition Jazzmaster... it's one of the cheaper guitars I bought (compared to the Les paul!!!) And it's such a badass guitar. I may like it more than the Cobain Jaguar.
Thanks Ryan! I would have requested this one too. It's my favorite Mad Season song besides Long Gone Day with The Awesome Mark Lanegan. I'll wear my purple Mad Season tee today and learn this one.
Yeah I'd love to learn Long Gone Day... I wonder if you could transform the xylophone part to guitar.. Is that possible? Or is the original guitar part enough to convey the song?
This song means a lot to me ... but it does hit me a lil sad when I hear it , especially when Chris Cornell sings it .... Thanks to you , I can play it , which I never thought I could ... Once again , it’s all because of you !!! I couldn’t ever Thank you enough .....
Ryan, Bravo. Saw tabs and few other tutorials about this song but you nailed it to perfection. Thank you once again for such informative tutorial videos. Cheers! Naveed

Hello, just found this channel and as a pearl jam fanatic i love it. I'm sure i will get to watch every video. If i may make a small suggestion it would be to do a quick run through of each song (just one intro/verse/chorus and maybe bridge)at the beginning of the video. its nice for the viewer to see how complicated the song will be before watching the whole video so that maybe they can tackle the easier looking pearl jam songs first.
How do get that tone? I can’t seem to get my settings dialed in. I have an LTD 256 with boss waza air headphone amp. Been following you for a few years..great teachings. Thank you.
I found this song difficult to figure out!(not sure why) Thank you so much ! That song seems to walk a fine line of being on the verge of falling apart which makes it awesome but so hard to figure out.
just a small comment, you did a pretty good job explaining the song in great detail. props to you. but the one thing that most videos never include is the initial tuneing. I can find it but it was hard at first. luckily I learned to play when I was 5.
correct, have you tried c,-g-c-f-a-d. it works in sharp # too. I like to play a lot of metal and messed up tuning, its just always nice to eliminate one variable and the tuning is your base. thanks again for the info and lesson, hope to see more.
Excellent tutorial! One quick question, there's a bend after that last part you covered he does as well, what is it he's doing? Where's he getting that bend?
Thanks for the lesson sir. Love your teaching style. So at the end when talking about the chorus with the little "fill". I'm trying to figure out some of the others. If I just play in the G pentatonic scale I should be able to figure them out correct?
Ryan, I have been playing this song since that mad season album was released....but I realize now I’ve been playing a part incorrectly. Thank you again for another great breakdown. Keep rockin’ man. - Cheers
The whole album is good. You can put it on and just hang out in the house. Unfortunately both Layne and John (bassist) are gone from the same affliction. Half the band gone. Thank you for this.
