- Common joins us to discuss "The 13th," Ava Duvernay's documentary chronicling the history of racial inequality in the United States. "The 13th" examines how our country has produced the highest rate of incarceration in the world, with the majority of those imprisoned being African-American. Common's anthem “Letter to the Free,” is the end-title track from the film. The lyrics tackle America’s racial divide and reflect the film’s focus on the prison system as a new form of slavery in America. Interview at AOL HQ in NYC for BUILD Series.

When I saw Trayvon Martin's pic on the trailer for "13th," I decided to FF thru the film to see what DuVernay had to say about his shooting.
She lied. (This is my "shocked, SHOCKED!" face ... ) So why would I believe ANYTHING she has to say about ANYTHING else?? That woman is peddling BS.

Theres definitelt an industry complex here, but its not about slavery and its not about race. If you graduate high school, practice safe sex until youve got a job, youll never need to commit crime to live. Reform is needed, but not taking responsibility on both ends is a mistake
I get what he's saying, but this problem has to be cut down. It's okay to start with not allowing arrests of poor, black, and other disenfranchised groups. We steal prisoners lives and while they're in the process of losing their lives, they are being forced to work for peanuts, tortured. Open the jails and let those people go. Now.
