I've seen several fanfics that say that each people developed a characteristic related to their element and place to survive; the air nomads can have more breath because they live in high places, the people of the earth have stronger bodies due to the hardness of the element, the water tribe has resistance to the cold and the citizens of the fire have skin that is resistant to heat, not burning in the sun or fire so easily. By this line, burn scars wouldn't be something unusual, but something like Zuko's would require more effort to be done and would cause more damage because of this resistance. Which only shows the contempt that Zuko received from everyone.
I personally haven’t read that theory, and if it’s fanfiction then it would be just that, fanfiction. @@worldbuildingfilms507 Yeah, the sun warriors felt pretty much out of place and just like some plot device showed in on the last minute... Especially in a show like Avatar with its interesting world they sticked out much. I found the Mayan influences interesting and cool, but it also felt out of place and was not working all to well with the worldbuilding... I mean: How is it, that there seems to be no bit of influence of the sun warrior culture in the rest of the fire nation? One could argue that Sozin just erased all (like the dancing), but it is not cutting it fully for me. And about the cultural borrowing: I can understand that there is quite the controversy and many strong opinions about this, and i believe that it is good to discuss it with a critical eye and thinking about it... As someone that borrows from many different cultures in his worldbuilding, i believe that it is not automatical bad as long as one goes not in the territory of harmfull stereotypes and understands how to also use some element in context (what does not mean that a culture that is inspired from a real culture cannot have bad sides, but that there just needs a nuance and not things like "typical colonialist fantasy-savages").
Oh I personally don’t care about the appropriation part. Everyone has done it from all over the world in one way or another. The important thing is to do it well and/or tastefully. My issue is indeed not the fact that they were influenced by the Mayans and Incans, but that indeed we got only ONE episode with them and they basically disappeared from the picture. I agree, it sticks out too much considering literally everything else, and I hope the creators give them more room in the future
@@JonathanGhost42 I also like to take inspiration from real cultures in my worldbuilding, cultural appropriation is a hot topic, but I believe that as long as you are not offensive it's perfectly fine! People love when you show appreciation for their culture!
Indeed. Appreciation is different from appropriation, and the creators of ATLA did a very thorough job out of passion and respect. And it shows, as it’s a beloved show worldwide. THIS is how you do things properly, so it’s no wonder that it’s considered to be one of the biggest gold standards

Um akchually, salt is a mineral... Lol. For real tho, great job. You clearly put a lot of time and effort into this and it shows
It’s a mineral, yeah, but they can still extract it in the way I mentioned in the video, right? Or did you mean something else?
Also thank you! I am definitely putting a lot of effort in the quality of these videos 😂
they are just some dumb rock Hank get over it.
Salt isn’t a rock 😏😎
