Learn how to use Power Query to transform multiple choice survey data in Excel. This survey data has been exported to Excel in a format that is not easy to use for a pivot table. In this video you will learn how to use the Unpivot feature in Power Query to transform or normalize the data. This will make it easier to analyze with a pivot table and chart.

Thank you for sharing this. I have a mixture of the 2. Multiple Columns with comma separated entries. Until now this has meant a lot of manual prep . This will save me so much time.
Great! Thank you so SOOO much! Been searching for a step-by-step guide to this all over the net. This has been more useful than a semester of research methods.
This is one of the most important videos I ever watched concerning excel. All john excel campus videos too

Thank you very much sir to provide this video. I am delighted to see your all videos. I am an operator and your all videos are very useful for me. thank you again
Awesome pointers, Jon! Especially so were those instructions for reformatting data using Power Query across MS versions from 2007 to 2016. Lots of information, use of conditioning to build anticipation for the steps without overwhelming experienced users was expertly done. Additionally, converting data from either comma-delineated or multiple-column formats and Unpivot proved extremely helpful.
+Anthony Harrison Awesome! Thanks Anthony! I'm glad to hear it helped. Have a good one! :-)

Hi Jon, many thanks for the video. It's super helpful. I just have a quick question. What if the survey has, say, 10 questions and all the 10 questions' responses sit in one big spreadsheet with the 10 questions sitting next to each other in a similar layout as yours. Is there an easy to unpivot 10 questions in one go? Or it has to be separate the questions into different tabs and unpivot them one by one? With many thanks.
Thanks for the great video! I am trying to analyze the results from a staff survey that had around 100 questions, all with multiple choice responses. Do you have any guidance for working with that number of questions?
Thanks for the nice clear illustration.. can you also show how to analyse this data with power pivot??
