As a Finn, I would really like too see that happen someday. It is kinda sad to see that in some years Slovakia can bearly hold their spot in the top division.
Slovakia, Switzerland and Germany have all really topped their game. Slovakia had a little drop after this amazing 2002 tournament but they played in final in Finland in 2012 and now we face in 2022 olympic semi-final. Good luck Slovensko!

You wouldn't believe how good atmosphere is already in Bratislava since the morning. You can hear drums, horns fans singing. A lot of Latvians and Russians in the streets and a lot of Czechs in the bars.
And where about are u then ? 😂😂

I was about 11 when they won the gold. I remember it like it was yesterday...great memories, great documentary. Greeting from a Slovak living in the Faroe islands

I remember watching this when i was 16 in the main square of my hometown with all my friends, projected on a massive screen. It was the most emotional experience of my life till then. Nerve wracking and exhilarating. Still makes me tear up watching it nearly 20 years later.

I was a kid when the golden boys won us the cup, so I don't remember, but it was HUGE.
What I do remember is 2012, when we won the silver medals, the whole country was upside down again. Such a strong hockey fanbase in here!
I can totally relate to you. In 1995 when Finland won the first time, the whole country went crazy. And 2011 same thing. We both have only 5 million people but strong hockey fan base💪
As a Russian i can say that in 2002 that was huge upset for me, so hard lose, which i still remember. And in 2012 it was huge revenge, which we are 10 years waited for... But that Bondra's goal to Max Sokolov... Ehhh.
@@Rybr2 It was a huge upset for everyone. And yeah, you got your revenge, I watched the game and your team was dominating.
But I wasn't sad or angry, I accepted it and the whole country celebrated silver, everybody took it like a final gift for Demitra, who has passed away in that Jaroslavl airplane crash. Also, we don't win medals often, so that silver was extra special.
Also, 2002 final, Slovakia won, 2012 final, Russia won... 2022? Best of 3?

Amazing moments
I will never forget watching the finals on the bar at night club and when we won, the whole place went bunkers, free rounds from strangers, I thought that place was gonna come down on us 😆... I get goosebumps every time it comes to my mind, thanks to our boys for such a wonderfull memory!

Kind of funny, never thought about that Slovaks don't like to play against Finland. Maybe that's true, and I don't mean to be rude, because usually I'm not too worried when Finland is playing against Slovakia. I do wish the best for the Slovakian national team, but obviously not against Finland.
Wow , it is already 17 years ago. I remember cheering for Slovakia back at those times. I have always loved to cheer for the underdogs.

Underdogs? we had minimum about 40 players in the NHL. NHL stars such as Bondra, Pallfy, Chara, Gaborik, Demitra, Hossa, Visnovsky, Nagy, Handzus, Zednik and others
@@lubosmacorlig42 we were definitely underdogs in those matches. Gaborik, Chara, Demitra, Hossa none of them were in Gotteburg :) Just check our squad in 2002 gold run :) ... Pavlikovský, Petrovický, Vaic, Smrek, Bača, Kapuš, Pucher, Uram, Milo and other decent players, hardly world class though, I am sure you agree. In 2003 we had much stronger roster, and all guys you mentioned were in if I recall corectly
That time we had many players from top NHL teams who were talents and playing on a lakes/street/rivers without money to buy proper equipment just pure talent and dedication to play hockey with the friends and be better them them but nowadays if you are talent and dont have money to play you are fu.ked
The only thing missing is the desperate catch of Lasak on Swedish attempt, when he was lying on the ice, and grabbed the puck with one hand from the goal line. :)

From 2000-2019 USA, Canada, Sweden, Russia, Finland, Czech and Slovakia is stars (U18, U20 and big ice hockey command's).
Now you can add Swiss and Germany

@@Michal71175 Yup, I understand, but Ziggy's goal in shootout was unanswered as well, had the Swedes scored right after Pallfy, I would agree it was Richard who sent Slovakia to the finals :-) ... and of course Janko Lašák !! His "Ježiš" save 43 seconds into OT was crucial just as much as his saves in the shootout. But I understand how you meant it... Lintner's goal secured the finals

Отличный финал, отличный плов выдали оба финалиста. О той сборной России так же можно снимать ролики. На тему серебра 2002. Еле еле играть в группах, еле еле заползти в плов, и выбить трёхкратных подряд, до этого, чемпионов Чехов и четырёхкратных подряд, до этого, призёров Финов.
Хорошая команда в 2002 была у Словаков. Они были красавцы. Если не ошибаюсь это было их первое и последнее золото. Сейчас 2019 и с Малкиным, Овечкиным, Кузнецовым, Кучеровым и т.д. Россия в одну калитку должна брать Золото ЧМ 2019

Вы каждый год орете,да мы в одну калитку должны брать,4 прошлых года так же орали,просто слово в слово. Особенно в 2015 орали,тогда у вас тоже все звёзды были. И всеравно Канада поимела ваших звезд с разгромом 6-1 если вы не забыли. Имейте уже хоть каплю скромности,может тогда и другие страны вас уважать начнут. Slovakia had such a great team in that tournament. Well deserved win. Looking these names on the ice, makes just to think what happened to Slovakian ice hockey? There is no real star players since Marian Hossa and even in general Slovak players in NHL are very few today.

Palffy couldn't not believe the Bondra's winning goal becouse he was ready to be hero himself

Не очень сильная, но может удивить, играют с сердцем и делают все для своих фанатов и для своей страны. От меня, огромное уважение к Словацкой сборной. Надеюсь у них получится в этом году, оставить дома хоть одну трофей

Fair weather hockey nation...when its good, everything's good...when they lose, all respect goes out the window. Thought you'd be used to losing by now...hahahahaha!
But no one can celebrate so passionately. Every time when Slovakia won the medal, crowds were on streets, TV wasn't showing anything else just our heroes. Other countries barely celebrate. And that's what hockey is about, giving people what they want to see. The others don't care so much.
@@jozefmasny8349 Precisely why your fans let themselves down against Canada...being graceful in victory anyone can do...its being graceful in defeat that separates the true champions. Again...your players deserve all the glory for the way they are playing...excellent. Its your fans that need a lesson in respect for opponents. Thuggish...
@@TheMisanthrope. The fans are just being very impulsive, spontaneous and emotional. Sometimes too much, sometimes they can't cotrol it. Not trying to be disrespectful, they just live hockey on ice with the players. It was unfortunate and we are sorry for that, but it would be nice if you showed some understanding. We are even nicer towards people who are nice to us, but also even more disrespectful to people we find disrespectful. Your players and fans were doing trash talk, insulting, provoking and ironic laughing in the face the whole game. It may be normal in Canada, but here we find sucker punching the opponent, provoking them and stuff your players and fans do very personally. In our culture is such behaviour unacceptable. We are not disrespectful unless we think you are and that is what fans thought that happened. For us when hockey comes, it is one of the opportunities, when you want to feel really patriotic. Flags are everywhere. It is kind of an escape from reality of a helpless living in our corrupted country. Just try to understand this was more than just a hockey game for us.
