I wonder if these children will someday appreciate the amazing gift of being in a class with someone as erudite as MB. gratitude should be taught in schools core virtue.
I just can't believe how these kids are so loud and disrespectful. I was taught high school Latin by Mr Hightower, God rest his soul, at LCHS in 1978, and there is no way he would have put up with this kind of loud and rude behavior. Those kids have no idea how privileged they are to be taught Latin by Mary Beard.I only wish I could trade places with them.
I just don't understand why there's so much grumpy comments in this post about "disrespectful Brit Brats". To make some use of Mary Beard's Latin lesson: "Tu quoque!" = "What about yourself?!"Who's being disrespectful to whom?
They know more than I do LOL. Jen makes me laugh. Roman Numerals, still confuse me. She's quite a good teacher... I'm quite suprised how quiet they all are... but I guess only half of them are there. I can't wait for the episode tonight, if I haven't got the date wrong ;o
It’s a sobering thought that such a knowledgeable, competent, enthusiastic scholar wasn’t able to stop half the students from leaving the classroom. What might possibly arouse their interest? All brawn and no brain, they’d be best suited for farm work...maybe...
B.C actually is correct and means Anno Domini and is Medieval Latin meaning "in the year of the Lord", and sometimes rendered as "in the year of our Lord."
Sorry, Mary but Big Ben does not have Roman Numerals on it. The clock faces have the Roman Numerals. Big Ben is not a clock but the largest bell inside the Great Clock Tower now know as the Elizabeth Tower - and Big Ben's official name is the Great Bell. However, most people call the clock and the tower as Big Ben but they pass on an incorrect term. Throughout the Roman Empire, gladiators fought in arenas and only some fought in the Colliseum.

Do they have parents or they are all real basterds?!

Where do half the class suddenly disappear to?

She volunteered for this? I'm exhausted just watching her .
Mary Beard - history legend

I didn't realise this!
How are those students so stupid and disrespectful?
Same thing
Why are all the students speaking?
Dream teach and nightmare students, period.
Isn't that girl with the blonde hair from EastEnders...
It looks like a high school not like university
Did these people really get to their GCSE's without knowing Roman numerals? Jesus.
i thought anno domini meant in the year of our lord, not 'after christ'
Mary Beard has to shout to make herself heard.
Well I thought in the year of our lord would suggest from jesus birth onwards, while after christ would suggest from jesus' death onwards.

I'm sorry you think that way.
Rude kids talking while she is teaching.

Why does she bother with these animals?
