1. American Silver Eagles - buying Proof ones since 1990 - have 965 of them 2. 90% Quarters - trying to fill my 50 roll Guardhouse box - currently at 42 rolls 3. Silver rounds - I buy these when premiums (on ASEs) are too high 4. Silver Proof sets - collecting since 1992 and can't give up the habit! Nice video - thank you! One problem I have with the ASE's is they are so counterfeited right now. The premiums are stupid expensive too. I'm not sure how you have ASE's at #2 citing those two reasons alone. I would much rather stack maples at a buck fifty over spot. Maples have better security features too. I get 90% from my LCS that I can handpick from the bin for spot. 95% of my stack is Maples and 90% constitutional.
They’re better when you go to sell them . I saw vermillion offer +2.5 buy over spot and is selling them +4.5 over spot. Your maple he only buys at spot.
I believe its easy to acquire ASE's for a low premium if you have a relationship with your LCS. I say "low premium" with $3.50/4 over spot considered low. I can usually get a bit lower on cull quality
@@cowboy_henk The 2015 2-ounce Unc. Libertad is listed on Apmex for $168- , so Josh is correct about the premiums people pay for Libertad's. Got an Unc. 1986 ASE and several nice Vintage art bars that sell for over $50.00 ea. This is why I love buying from my LCS. Take care.
I agree with the list. 👌You mentioned 40% and I realized that aside from a few of them I got in change, I don't have any. So, next time I am going to buy some 40% just to have a little. I'm a big fan of constitutional, and adding a little 40% would add another way to be fractional in a barter situation.
I would love for the Silver Eagles to start being made with some security features like the sovereign coins. Doesn't have to be anything crazy like a Britannia or Maple Leaf but something. Just make it a little more difficult for people to fake. Also it would help justify the premium a bit more.
What ever I can get for cheap, a few years back I was in a thrift shop and found a couple of candle holders- Sterling for about $8.00 and they weighed like 3 lbs apiece. why do you think the premiums are cheap? you get what you pay for. as you prepare for the collapse of the us govt, the coins will not be worth anything when the country that backs them has collapsed. think it over carefully
Good Video! for stacking silver rounds, for me personally (just my opinion) I'm stacking mostly Sunshine Mint rounds and bars. This is because it can be easily and quickly verified on the spot for authenticity with the SMI Decoder lens. I specifically look for Sunshine silver with the SI mint mark as it has a hologram that can be seen with the SMI lens. When you put the lens on the mint mark, you can easily see the word "VALID" on the piece. There's videos on UA-cam that demonstrates it. Very cool!
Anybody out there planning on bartering metals would be wise to purchase a Sigma tester. I don't want to rely on anyone to have such a tool so bought one for myself.
Well, here's my list Josh: 1) 90% silver 2) 1 oz generic silver rounds 3) (non-US) 1 oz silver soverign coins 4) 10 oz silver bars and finally #5) 40% Kennedy halfs!! Love them or hate them, they will be GREAT barter items with a low cost (now) and best of all, most people recognize them as US currency with a 40% silver bonus. Smelters be damned!!!
I use the low premium on ASE to purchase lately, 2nd choice is divided between Silver Maples and Junk silver. Just pur hased a good supple of pristine Backdate ASE for $3 over,Junk ive been getting at spot and maples $1.50 over.

Thanks for the insight - always good to hear what’s going on at the front line. Good video 👍. Due to taxes here in the UK I stack pre-owned Britannias, .925 Sovereign ‘crowns’ (very low premiums) and Maria Theresa Thalers (3/4 ounce) which have virtually no premium.
i get eagles directly from the mint and stack a lot of silver from the UK; sovereigns, queen’s beasts, commems, basically anything that piques my interest
Asking your LCS for any new stuff they got is a good start but I ask for impaired soverigns since I can usually talk them down, maples, eagles, brits, if they have any scratches or even milk spotting I talk them down to +1$ over spot and I think thats a deal. Owner just does not like having imperfect soverigns in his case so I take them off his hands. Not a consistent way to stack but a nice way to add a little over time and keeps you relevant by going to your shop often to see how theyre doing. Otherwise us 90% is the best in terms of low premium. Ive had days where its a few cents over spot with an average of 20 cents over spot.
Great video thank you again I like watching these with my teenage son because they are very teachable moments for him and like he says it's not math it is money.... The question I have is understanding the price of silver is going to move but it's the premium you're paying for when you buy versus the premium you're going to get when you sell which we know is not going to be the same some conditions may affect that of course what would your top five look like with respect to the five types of silver to sell back that afford you the best premium as the seller
The Morgan’s and Peace are some of my favorites, but you will pay more per ounce than any other silver. $25. which is quite a good price for them will cost you $33.62 per ounce or $5. to $8. over spot.
Here in the UK, the best value I have found over the last couple of weeks have been Australian Lunar Rabbit 2oz coins from the Perth Mint. It may be just my particular dealer as they are costing way more from other dealers.
No bud I found lately Perth premiums are high especially privy marked zodiacs way more than I used to pay I been seeing krugerrand for less lately and some premium germania stuff great to look at🎉
@@jjutube313 This may be a one off with my dealer. They are way more expensive everywhere else. These were the closest to spot I could get from anywhere else in the UK.
@@Silvermachine7 uk market is over pricing everything the Queens beast series should be available for most of us but they're way overpriced to make value for money even normal cuckaburra's roos ect getting tagged wildlife to put money on their keeping the price to purchase low and buy is high still trying to figure it out bud collect what you like can afford and anything that's a bargain bud
@@jjutube313 I actually bought another couple of 2oz Lunar Rabbits today. They seem to be about the cheapest silver I can get at the moment. Atkinsons are selling them for £58.00 inc VAT. Bullion by Post are selling them for £90 inc VAT! There are other prices in-between but no one else comes even close to Atkinsons. It's having to pay 20% VAT that is the real killer on all silver in the UK. If you can afford to buy gold, it's much easier to narrow the margins in the UK as there is no VAT on gold but you need much deeper pockets. I bought my first today, two 1/10oz Britannia's. Even on such small coins the prices are much closer to spot than any silver I can get.
I have about $3500 face value American silver coins that I've had since the 1970s. While silver prices change significantly, it would be useful to have a list of common items that are purchased and a fair silver coin price to make those purchases. For example, circa 1972, a gallon of gasoline cost about $.30. Wouldn't that imply that a reasonable price for a gallon of gas today would be three silver dimes? A list of such transactions would be useful to have, and they could be updated to reflect varying silver prices. But such a list would make bartering with silver coins a lot easier, I suggest. Perhaps such lists are availabole some place?
In reference to your comment about the authenticity of the silver round I would have a ping tester on me and ping the silver round on the ping coin ap to test the frequency to authenticate it. You can't fake a ping
I have a small quantity of Morgans because they are fun. I realize they aren't the best for investment purposes. I like 90%, again they are fun and generic silver rounds.
All comes down to what your LCS may or may not want to buy, or can liquidate to his wholesaler if cash flow gets tight. Diversify and buy whatever has the lowest premium at the time. Premiums change, as we've all seen.
First, constitutional silver. Second, generic 1oz rounds and bars that seem likely to be recognizable. Third, 1 oz silver eagles. After that, hmmm….. I guess 1oz sovereign coins would be next but I just don’t invest in foreign coins. I try to cover all three scenarios: normal investment, hyperinflation, and apocalyptic.
I have a tube of eagles just to have some, but $6 over spot is a waste when i can buy something else with way less premiums like maples and brittanias. Maples n brittanias are way prettier than silver eagles IMO and cheaper. Im focusing on 90% atm. Happy stacking everyone🥈👍
Premium are down but the price is up, so its the same price as when silver was at 20buck with a 18buck premium for eagle, now u can get eagle at 28buck and pay 5buck premium.
I thoroughly disagree with where you put Canadian Maples. Due to their protection from milk spotting, security features, and purity, good premiums, I put them in second or third place.
IF you stack in case the SHTF, I think generic rounds and bars are your best bet. The premiums are very low. If you need to use silver to buy anything, Eagles and other premium coins will never get you back your premium. Silver will be silver. Companies and people who will take silver to buy necessary goods, wouldn't care less whether or not you have an Eagle or a generic round. To them, all that will matter is how much silver it contains. I also think "junk silver" is a good thing to have as well. The premiums are low right now. The strategy I laid out is only if the dollar plummets or the SHTF. I have a feeling the drop of the dollar may not be very far away. Happy stacking!
I stack Canada, UK and Australia, because I don't want to own anything that can't be authenticated with the naked eye. These mints use very detailed designs and if they are counterfeited, wouldn't resemble the originals. I'm not enthusiastic about constitutional silver or Silver Eagles or Philharmonics for that reason. Nobody has produced a comprehensive guide to counterfeits, so all I can go by is a few images of fakes. If I did want 90% coins I'd prefer the halves, since they would still be full weight, but I assume they are counterfeited, as I know the quarters and dimes are. I can't expect someone to accept such coins when I wouldn't trust them myself. Besides, Australia and the UK are dirt cheap, and Canada is fairly priced. Thank you for this video. Even though I am set in my ways, I like to know others' viewpoints.
I like the 10oz, I have a couple 5oz's....I feel like the 5oz is almost 200 and for 100 more you get another 5ozs. I'm trying to buy a 1/2 ounce platinum eagle 1st, cause I want to at least have alittle bit of everything but afterwards I want to do the 10oz silver next. I like to buy Peace dollars; George V and VI Canadian dollars; and barber halves. Also would like South African 5 shillings with George VI.
Good stuff
By the way I have the same top 5 silver to buy on my list exactly...too funny...smiles
great content as usual sir!
Much appreciated!
Honestly, it’s ALWAYS the same 5 no matter what order you em in folks! Stack this way and you’ll always come out on top! 👍🏾
Great video -Just started in the stacking game
I have everything he said! 😊
90% , ASE and 1-5oz bars r my current targets.
Crazyy i sold my 10oz bars when they were $160 bought em at $130 should of kept lol
I like the order of this list. Although I prefer 5oz bars/coins to 10oz
What is the premium on Libertads? What would an original unopened roll of unc 1986 Libertads be worth?
Just curious! One of my first stacks.
Rang the bell! Was already subbed. Thanks for the info Josh
I'm stalking American eagle and maple leaf
Mercury dimes and Walking Liberty half dollars - plus secondary ASE.
I thoroughly disagree with where you put Canadian Maples. Due to their protection from milk spotting, security features, and purity, good premiums, I put them in second or third place.
Scottsdale mint produces the best silver for a private mint!
Great video! Didn't the Canadian maple surpass the eagle on worldwide popularity in some way a year or 2 ago? Or maybe just for a short time?
Where’s the Scott’s dale chucky 10 oz
I stack to save. generic rounds 90% silver , and coins when I can.
Q: How do you feel about cull silver eagles? Get them however you can I'm assuming. Great video!
Junk silver for the win! Check is on the way for some halves😊
I'm stacking to leave it to my son after I'm gone so he has alittle something, etc.
Just picked up two 5 ounce bars for 150 each on this dip. I'm stacking for my son as well
There's no reason why ASE premiums should be more than anything else. Not worth it when Shtf.
