Getting into the Mooer PE-100 Pocket multi effects: Interesting!

- In this video I use the Mooer PE-100 for the first time. As with most multi-effects systems, it starts off pretty bland but as I get the hang of it, the good sounds start to emerge. I see a lot of potential here!
An artifact so small and yet so powerful. The timbres, distortions, modulations options included in this device are simply sensational. It's worth using some learning time to enjoy the full range of options that this equipment gives us. And best of all: A simple tap!!
It’s pretty cool! I haven’t learned all of it yet but I like a ton of features so far
I love my Boss pedal board thru my Marshall JCM 800/4X12. There is nothing better for me....But this is a helluva "desktop" practice effects set up. GET ONE!
How much did you pay for it?
I've seen high and low prices.
Just curious as to how much I should pay for it?
Nice review! Good to see someone actually show how to use it! Great video
haha, I edited out the bits where I got confused! Thanks Dad :) Gearfacts
It does sound good through your camera mic. I thought it was hooked up direct!
17:28 - Does the Mooer vibrate like that when the drums are turned on?
No, I think my camera tripod was just a bit too close to the amp.
LOL !!! I was just messing with you!@@gearfacts
Good info!
Thanks.
I just ordered mine today.
Can't beat the function to price ratio!
I'm an old guy and this will be my first multi function "pedal" my other stuff is all Boss and DOD.
Glad the video was helpful, hope it doesn't disappoint!
Thanks, newbie here trying to make sense of what he just bought. Will definitely be watching this again a few more times. You explained it well, now it's my job to unpack it all. Best wishes, stay healthy.
Thanks for the message, and it's nice to have you watching my channel :) Gearfacts
is this device suitable for an electroacoustic guitar? Are there any reverse, chorus and delay functions?
Yes it'll work with your guitar. It has chorus and delay but I don't remember hearing a reverse effect (I could be wrong about that)
Are the effects only through Mono Input or also the aux?
Great video, thanks for this. Have ordered one as a backup to my helix to keep in my gig bag - sounds great and really compact.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Looking for something to practice with and look at recording with, has this got USB D out or did you just run it into an audio interface?
I just recorded from the headphones socket :) #Gearfacts
@@gearfacts oh sweet, that makes sense then mate. Cheers for the reply!
So I know it’s a bit of an oldie , but again I saw your review and just ordered one !5 years later lol
It's a great little tool. I love miniature stuff :)
I'm receiving one from Amazon today...delivered for $60.60 . It was nice to see you editing your PE100 in real time ! Thanks !
Ok having had this thing a bit I love it ! It definitely is a great practice tool !
If you get a chance . Check out the Donner cyclops little amp . It’s got effects and a drum machine and blue tooth . Pretty cool !😊
Will look it up@@kimthompson5871
Hi Gearfacts, many thanks for all the reviews! So would you recommend this one over Zoom G1on? I need something fairly basic for messing around with all the effects :)
If you need something basic, then I'd have to say that the PE-100 is *more* basic, and it does its fewer effects better than the Zoom does them. The thing in favor of the Zoom is that it simply does more effects, like guitar synths, the expression pedal etc. It sounds to me like you don't really need those more far-out effects, so if you are happy with the physical format of the PE100 then I think it might be the better choice for you. :) #gearfacts
@@gearfacts really appreciate the response! I guess that makes perfect sense. Though I'm kind of torn now, as Zoom has looper, whereas Mooer doesn't?
@@MrSuperRadek Well, this is the dilemma! The Zoom offers many features and does them fairly well, while the Mooer does fewer features but does them a bit better. Both are strictly amateur gear though, so me personally I'd go for the Zoom as a good all-rounder. If I was doing a lot of jamming with others and tone mattered a bit more, I'd choose the Mooer.
Thanks for the review. I'd love to use it with a bass head hoping the sounds are decent on bass too, but can it be used in the fx loop?
Yes, and I expect you'll get some good tones from it
Did you get it how good did it work for bass.... I'd have to say the one downside I don't like about it is it doesn't seem to have a compressor
@@shyfawxproductions in the end I chose a Korg Pandora PX4B, an older portable multieffect. Pros: many effects to be combined in your own presets (compressor included, but in that case you can't use drive or distortion since they're in the same bank). Cons: some background noise (not noticeable on stage, at least for us playing Metal) and sometimes the general volume goes a little down by itself, then comes back to normal.
Nice Playing!
Have you tried the headphones output?
Is loud enough for practice?
Thank you very much.
Best Regards from Argentina.
Thanks Federico, yeah the headphone socket is nice and clear. This demo was recorded using a small amp. GF
@@gearfacts Thank you so much!
Just bought one on EBay for $45. The BEST headphone amp in the world! Amp choices, drives, delays, chorus, flange....and it’s small enough to qualify. Oh, yeah...and there are drums!
So if it doesn’t work in live/ band situations - - kicking back with some headphones = a guitar sound well worth the price.
Interesting! I didn't try it with amp simulation on its own. They're getting very cheap now so I might grab another one and do a follow-up review. Thanks for watching Gearfacts
Wow awesome!!!
Hi! Do you know (aproximately) the max delay time in digital mode? Thank you!
How can I record a 60-second guitar to play my legs over on this pe100 ?
Cracking review, kept it simple, great little unit, i have ordered one after watching your review
Thanks so much BG, glad you liked the video :) #gearfacts
Can I use it in a live gig? Either directly into the mixer or by placing a mic in front of my Amp? Please suggest. I am about to order it.
You could, but changing effects during a song would be impossible.
@@gearfacts except you have someone do it for you
So you telling me I can't use my *foot* ?
@@Anonymous-tx9wd hehe yeah, using your toe will do the trick.
How is the latency? Please i need to know... Ive read somewhere it has latency. From playing vs output sound... Is it noticeable?
Yep it's noticeable. GF
@@gearfacts thanks for replying. But is it usable for practice/live? Or the latency is really that bad? I mean does the latency makes you play out of tempo?
@@eccentriceivar For practice and live work it's great and the sound is instant. It's just the recording via USB to a computer that can have latency.
@@gearfacts thank you so much! Thats good to know.
@@gearfacts wait it has usb output?
Great, thorough review, thank you. I bought one, and I'm not disappointed 🙂 cheers, Mark
What settings would you recommend for early EVH on say Ice Cream Man?
How many fx can you stack?
As in how many fx can be active at one?
Do you know of a similar small thingy, with USB connection to a DAW for recording?
Personally I can't think of any other Multi effects units in this format that have USB recording (like this one does). There might be something, but I'm not aware of it.
do you need a good amp for this to sound good and clean? and can you use headphones for cleaner output ?
Studio monitors or even a good hifi will do the trick. And yep headphones work well too :) Gearrfacts
For $60 you cannot beat this. I received mine last week. Didn't take long to learn how to adjust. Very simple.
Yep and it sounds pretty good too ;)
does this have a similar sounding patch, like the gilmourish on the g1on?
Yep. It's about the same quality as the Zoom for those kinds of sounds :) #gearfacts
Thanks for your good review! Checked this video recently and grabbed a PE100 for myself. Its pocketable form and slick interface make a perfect simple drummer with occasional fun effects for my piano practice. My "like new" unit has some issue in Value knob response - perhaps a design weakness of the model - but it's not a big deal so far.
Good information, thanks for that. I get a lot of people asking about quality concerns in gear they are considering buying. So this is something I can pass on to them as a potential issue. Cheers!
Can you use this only with headphones for silent practice? Or do you need an amp?
You can use headphones or an amp.
@@gearfacts wich is better this or the Digitech element?
Hi! Do you know (aproximately) the max delay time in digital mode? Thank you!
I'm not sure and I don't have it anymore sorry, you'd have to google the manual (Search for Mooer PE-100 PDF") Gearfacts
I love that it is so small and portable, and the "guitar amps" were kinda cool, but the rest was kinda "standard" IMO. Not that there is anything wrong with standard, but i like to have something a bit more "special" to add to the standard effects. I own "Komplete 11 Ultimate" from Native Instruments, so i guess im a bit "spoiled" compared to the people who refuse to use software... Hardware has some advantages, but the only piece of "hardware" i know of that can be expanded with new effects is a computer, and im personally ok with using midi controllers if this gives me a much broader range of sounds and effects for just a small fraction of the price. I guess a laptop is my best bet for feeling "unlimited" out in nature :P
Nice Video. Hey can the amp modeling be turned off and just the effects used alone?
yep
Surprisingly good. I just picked up this TINY NU>X unit, and it doesn't sound *quite* as good as this but damn if it doesn't come close.
Mooer does flange very well. My little E-Lady is very close to an original Electric Mistress, especially live. Nobody would really know the difference
Thanks for doing this review / instructional video, I bought this as a boxed set with the Mooer GE100, thanks for helping me to understand all the functions of this unit, great video.
Glad you liked it, and thanks for the kind message :) Gearfacts
I think I'll get one for me. It'd be my first guitar pedal... is it OK for a first pedal?
I think it's great for a first effects unit :) GF
@@gearfacts I'm between this and the alpha crunch by Donner. Sounds good too...
Hi! Which is better, this or Ammoon Pockrock portable fx?
This one.
@@gearfacts ok thank you 😊.
@@gearfacts can you give any suggestion regarding the flashing of the tap button? It gets irritating!
@@mayuumupadhyay95 Yes I find it annoying too. I put a small piece of blue painters tap over it. Less distracting. After tweaking and saving settings I get awesome tones from this PE 100. I like it much better than the GE 100. Difference is GE 100 gas built in Looper. My GE 100 was defective after warranty. Bought PE 100 and I love it.
Hi. I'm thinking to buy one of these. Just to know, can i link it to my presonus and record what i play in the Daw? Guitar-pe100-presonus-daw. Thanks in advance
Hi there, no it doesn't record through its USB socket. You'll need a separate USB recording interface. I don't know any units in this size/shape that do direct recording. If a pedal is ok, I recommend finding a used G2nu, those things are excellent, cheap, and they can be recorded through USB :)
@@gearfacts i will not use the usb but the output channel of the Pe-100. From the output i'll link it in the input of the Presonus. Can work it in this way?
@@gearfacts there's a boss tabletop unit for 300 that does direct USB into a daw AND converts audio to midi, which you can do in some draws but is still cool
Is this good for direct recording with n amp? Straight into laptop?
It can act as an audio interface, but whether it is "Good" ...depends on your personal standards!
@@gearfacts No, I mean I have a Focusrite interface already, but if I plug this into that and record straight in will it sound the same? I'm asking because I used a distortion pedal in the same way and it sounded really bad.
@@utmindfreak yeah gotta watch the input gain with distortion pedals. It should all sound the same in theory but there’s often problem solving to be done. That’s home recording :/
Sounds good, looks like something that was made in the 90's
Yep I'm gunna work this baby a bit harder and see what it can do
How good does it sound connected directly to a sound card?
Well it sounds like its price. Competent but not exactly classy :)
Can you use reverb, chorus, delay together or they can only be used separately?
Yes, you can run up to 7 effects simultaneously :) Gearfacts
my friend had a unit much like this in the late 80s. it even had a wired button pad to bank up and down you would stick it on your guitar and put the main unit on your strap
Ahh that might have been the zoom 7010? Or a KORG Pandora maybe. Both are great!
Hello, nice video!! Can I connect only the guitar into the Mooer an listen the effects by plugging a headphone in it?
It'll go to an amp or headphones using the same socket :) #gearfacts
@@gearfacts thankss!!
I added this to my pedal board to add something special to my tone.
Awesome video!! How does this compare to Line 6 pod or the pocket pod?
Hmm good question. think I'd choose it over the POD, mainly for it's superior physical design. The pocket POD has some really nice overdrive sounds I guess, but I think the PE-100 is just a bit more fun.
@@gearfacts Thanks for reply! The Mooer does look like it has a much better & bigger display. Does the Ammoon PockRock compare to the PktPod for distortion/crunch/overdrive?
@@chrisbauer1358 I have both. This Mooer is far superior than the Pockrock.
I bought one out of curiosity for $60 AUD. Great little unit for the money however they have since gone up in price over the years naturally if your paying anything above $150.00 AUD you may want to re-think about it and see want else at a similar price. Though not a deal breaker considering what is as was marketed for, it is as far as I can tell a strictly mono unit though the specs say headphone stereo out. At best it may on some settings give a slight pseudo impression of stereo but it reality it's mono running to both L&R earpieces, AUX in I have not as yet tried, I suspect that may to be a similar L&R mono configuration.
For the price paid I can't complain a great little and versatile unit for practice or use with a little amp with out reverb etc. Instead of using your expensive value 50 to 100 watt amp and impending consequences from the neighbors for having done so.
Hey do you know what is the difference between this and ge100?
The GE100 is a pedal, I don't think there are any differences in sound.
@@gearfacts I think ge100 is just a version of pe100 with pedal am I right?
Good day sir can i put a foot switcher and can give some kind of foot switcher that compatible for this multi fx?
No, there's no socket for a footswitch :( Gearfacts
Can't figure out how to edit, it doesn't seem to work for me
Are you using the neck pickup?
No, it's bridge all the way in this video I think
Can i use this with Analog Synth?
Yep you sure can :) GF
I do ....actually the synth I use with this is digital...Arturia MicroFreak....this works very well except it eats 2 AAA batteries in about an hour, 2 AAAs - weird because it takes a 9v adapter.
I got one recently but unable to switch off the tap delay function
You can't turn off the tap tempo function. If the flashing light bothers you do what I did, put a piece of painters tape over it.
Does it have any noise gate/reduction built in?
Yep, it's separate to the effects :) Gearfacts
@@gearfacts where is the NG?
Can i connect this to other pedal it will not be effect the function of other pedal thank you for your answer?
Yes you can add another pedal. I recommend linking it at the end of your effect chain, and don't set the pedals before it too loud as that will distort everything :) Gearfacts
What do you mean sir can i ask something can i use foot switch pedal so i can on/off this effect?
Can I call up sounds via midi cc# ?
I doubt it but I suggest checking the online manual.

This is a very good in depth review 👍
Although I have a few analog pedals and a Quad Cortex, I wanted something compact and simple to use with my Kawai Session Trainer GB-4 for practice. Before I found out about the Mooer PE100, I was looking into the Rockman Guitar Ace and the Metal Ace, but they are just "one trick ponies".

Many creative answers, I used my big toe so far. But lyric stand could be useful.
Since it's portable,.. I wish the battery could last longer like Pandora mini... But it is very useful for practice when travelling
what is the battery life you are getting?
I must have one like this
wouldn't it be great if all pedals had on/off switch..so you don't destroy input jack after 9 months.
Yep. I really don't like the idea of shutting off power with no switch as a buffer.

I think on average-quality batteries you'd get about 3 hours of solid playing.
@@gearfacts thanks. i didn't think you would get much time out of the batteries.

what is the purpose of a,b and c button?
Different banks of tones :) #gearfacts

Actually as an extra note - when multi effects units have alpha-numeric patch locations (as many do) I like to arrange things as A_coustic, B_ass, C_lean, D_irty, E_xtreme, F_reaky and so on. Just so it's easy to remember or narrow down where I might have saved a particular sound :) #gearfacts
