- Pianist Jorge Bolet and conductor Paavo Berglund with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with a performance of the Rachmaninov 2nd Concerto. This is the culmination of the Masterclass given by Mr Bolet for this Concerto. The venue was the Usher Hall
Edinburgh Scotland and the year was 1986
Everything Bolet plays is elegant, sophisticated and honest. What a great artist.
+Gregg Michalak Right. His plays sounds elegant. Some pianists like Lang Lang plays very aggressively, but his performance seems much detailed in every key he touched.
Does anyone ever play dishonesty. I have never witnessed a performance that was not "honest." Has
anyone?
@@miltonmoore5294 The opposite of honest would be flamboyant.

THE OPPOSITE OF HONEST WOULD BE DISHONEST.
THE OPPOSITE OF FLAMBOYANT WOULD
BE SEDATE.
THEIR IS NOTHING WRONG WITH FLAMBOYANCE. TO BE OVERLY FLAMBOYANT
RAISES EYEBROWS.
BOLET PLAYED CERTAIN PASSAGES WITH UTTER FLAIR AND FLAMBOYANCE; THE SCORE CRIED OUT FOR IT.
DID YOU ACTUALLY WATCH THE VIDEO?😩😫

Rest in peace, Jorge. You were my favorite pianist.
Bolet is truly the master. Elegant and sophisticated. One of the few of all time best pianists.
Moved me to tears.....a noble performance with an exhilarating sense of musicianship and architecture.....RIP.❤️
Jorge Bolet is the best!!! Always!!!
This video was back in the mid-1980s, as Mssr. Bolet's life was coming to a close. And yet, you can still feel the power of his touch on the keys of the Bechstein Concert piano. He knew this piece as well as Rachmaninoff, himself, if I may be so bold. His hands are surely as large/long as Rachmaninoff's, so the mechanics were child's play. Bolet, in my opinion is among the finest 2 or 3 persons who interpret this masterpiece. I won't DROP names here, but a number of very talented concert pianists play the opening of this score WAY TOO Slow. It needs to be UP to tempo! At any rate, God used this particular piece of music to change my life, forever. My Love for the Piano.
Major Jesse Carnes I agree with others timing. Ever see the piece on Masterpiece Theatre where he reviews all 3movements with students! His comments are appreciated, valued. He asks students " what do you want to convey to the audience?" States play your own interpretation, for Each changes things around. Brilliant man.
I wish piano was recorded better. The wonderful Rachmaninov left hand accents and filigree at the beginning seem lost in the shuffle. Jorge Bolet is voicing the melodic lines strongly, from the video, but alas, orchestra as recorded, overwhelms the wonderful lines….some tasty Artistry here. I’m a fan of JB.
So elegant, finest of the fine! It is all about the music!!! Thanks Bolet!
Assistindo agora em 2021! Grande abraço para vocês direto de Brasília.
The seven dislikes on this video must be from Steinway salesmen: Bolet is making sweet music on a Bechstein model EN-280 piano here, made in Berlin.
Oh... I thought piano sounded specially good. I didn't know that.
He loved Bechstein
Thanks to UA-cam and people like Trevor, we can hear and see great artist like Jorge Bolet. I had the pleasure of see him live with my father. And indeed he was one of the greatest male pianist of 20th century, him, Arrau, Horowitz and I think 2 or 3 more. He was an unique and revolutionary pianist. Bravo Mr Bolet!!!!
Exceedingly rare. Thanks very much for sharing!
Astonishing vigor intertwined with an equally astonishing delicacy. Simply overwhelming.
An extraordinary pianist!! His timing is so perfect, he never looks @ the conductor , which is @ times rare. especially between all three movements. How wonderful to appreciate pure talent and such beauty.
What a wonderful combination of soloist and conductor. I was lucky enough to see Jorge Bolet performing the Rachmaninov Third around the same time, possibly on the same trip to the UK. A true master of poise, elegance and musical intergrity with no need for the head-tossing and other histrionic nonsense you get from "modern" performers like Anna Federova or (god forbid) Lang Lang. Paavo Berglund was a superb and very under-rated conductor. I attended many of his concerts when he was Chief Guest Conductor of the RSNO and his Nielsen Fourth still lingers in my memory 30-odd years later.
Jorge considered facial expressions, ect... to be emotional "leaking" that took away from what flowed through his hands to the instrument. (I'm paraphrasing his own words.) I've never seen a single live performance of his where he strayed from this approach to artistic excellence.
After "discovering" Mr. Bolet from a recommendation of one of former students, Maestro Michael Ruiz in Chicago, I always turn to Jorge when I need a boost of energy for my spirit and to hear music as I think its meant to be played...with love, trust and as though the composer were over his shoulder...just listen to his Chopin... there is no better.
I love this piece so much, and this is an astounding performance. The passion brought tears to my eyes. Bravo!
Bolet is just brilliant....brilliant.
The dialog between right/left at around 6:05. Never ever heard it like this. This is pianism from another planet.
Wow....I've never heard this concerto played this way before. A very inspiring performance!
Amazing performance, bravo !!!
Love is the only word possible to describe this rendition.
Изумительно! Как хорошо, что я открыла для себя этого блестящего пианиста благодаря фильму "Неоконченная песня"(о Ференце Листе) Браво! Брависсимо!
Bolet was so seriously underrated
I was brought here after listening to his Ballades. It was worth it.
Excellent! Thank you so much!
Me gusta. que muestren a. cada instrumento. que esté. ejecutando.
I. Moderato 0:55
II. Adagio sostenuto 11:50
III. Allegro scherzando 22:44
I heard Bolet perform the Rachmaninoff 3rd at the Hollywood bowl many years ago. A serious, "down-to-earth' 'Pianist who invariably does service to the composer.
Great performance~~!!
Que bellísimo. Final.
Bolet offers just the right interpretation and musical expression! His musicianship is awe inspiring!
Bravo!!!!!Maestro!!!!
Bolet es único: sobrio, expresivo, sensible, natural. Incomparable.
Bravísimo !!
Con. Flores. lindo 🤩 escenario.
Me encanta que alguien que se llama como yo toque el piano de una manera tan brillante
Is this a human? He must be sent from God.
The Bolet I know from the 60s & 70s is not the same man as this performance. Dangerous cadenza!
El. mejor en el mundo 🤩 Jorje. Bolet la orquesta. Excelente.
Anyone know where I can find his masterclass for this concerto?
Ahah funny to see you here
Soberbio pianista.!!!!!!!

proprio come vorrei interpretarlo. mi ricorda un altro raffinato artista:Tamas Vasarj...Juri Aronovic sul podio..
I Really enjoyed this, I am an artist myself so I can always appreciate good music. So thanks again for this post I can always appreciate someone who supports music keep it up!
Feel free if you have time to stop by my page and check out my tunes thanks
i don't know if richter could have done better!
I might challenge you to a duel on that comment! But both are fine and masterful performances. For me. no-one comes close to Richter. But this is closer to Rachmaninoff's own interpretation.
I feel that Bolet is a little more sophisticated in his performance, but nothing quite beats Richter's raw emotion for me.
No, although great, Richter was not at Bolet level.

Richter always plays too fast. Bolet let’s you hear all the music.
@@afritimm “richter always plays too fast” go listen to more richter
Мистер Боле посредственный пианист!
