The moment Aegon had with Sunfyre before taking off could have actually been really cute if we'd been allowed to see them spend time together before that.
You are making the best recaps of house of the dragon on UA-cam. I binged them last week to get caught up. All your criticism is on point. I watched season one and thought was going crazy with all good stuff happening off screen. I literally said the same thing to my girlfriend, that this show is all tell and no show”. I was super fascinated with the crab feeder. But they literally explained nothing about his origin and killed him off screen. Nothing about how he had all this power and why people were fighting for him. Can’t believe you are only getting a couple hundred views. That is a travesty! Went back and liked all your house of the dragon videos.
Thanks a lot, much appreciated :) It's a shame to be branded a hater for judging the show fairly. I guess people wanna hear what they wanna hear. Glad to know there are people out there who also feel crazy from all the overhype, and that you're enjoying the recaps!
@@CultureVultureMedia1 just read your reply to my girlfriend, and she wanted you to know that she enjoys your recaps more than the actual show. We are not haters over here either. @@tracybrandt9524 Amen, well put! Well it warms my heart to hear it. I'll keep both of you in mind when making these videos. I hope you'll keep enjoying them (and maybe the show too 🙈) All the best ❤
I wish you would go more into what you liked (if anything). It seems like the purpose of these videos is for you to point out everything you thought was stupid and to gloss over everything great. But maybe I’m misunderstanding and the point of these recaps is just to highlight everything you thought was silly and to laugh at the show for comedic purposes only which is fine if that’s the case. Anyway, great episode. I can’t even tell if you liked it or not (I’m guessing not?) but…. great episode nonetheless. I did find parts of this funny.
Great point! I love to go into detail about the things I like. HOTD has many outstanding moments of costumes, cinematography and sometimes acting performances (aka, Matt Smith). However, it should be said that, when talking about a blockbuster production, talking about cinematography, lighting, costumes, acting, or other superficial aspects, are scarcely worth mentioning, because it should be considered the bare minimum at that level. What ever really matters is the execution of the narrative, and only rarely do the cosmetics relate to that - like the excellent symbolism that I diligently do point out, for example: mise en scene in recap ep 2 & 3, breaking Viserys' model dragon recap ep 4). Notice for example how rarely videos on Game of Thrones talk about acting performances, costumes or cinematography. That's because there's so much narrative substsance to talk about. In videos on HOTD, it's the other way around, where attention is diverted precisely towards the superficial stuff (when they're not busy swooning over losely explored themes, or making up excuses for the abundance of plot holes), which is quite telling of he inherent quialities of these respective shows (and their audiences), wouldn't you agree?
@@CultureVultureMedia1 Idk man I just think you come across as determined to dislike this show. It's not perfectly written but it's far less superficial than you make it out to be.
@@unc54 I see. Don't suppose it makes it any better if I say I feel the same way about people who think the show is good. I want to love this show (and any show I watch, for that matter). All I can say is: watch GoT S1 and 2, and tell me whether the executions are even remotely close. That's not me being nostalgic either. Watching these shows paralell of each other highlights the chasm in quaility, from the dialogue, down to the dirt on the smallfolks' faces.
@@unc54I mean..hes not wrong. I love GoT..read all the main books and really liked seasons 1-5 and some parts of 6&7. This show...is a joke. I legit ended up not even being able to make it through season one. Any chance your head might be fully in the punch bowl and YOUR missing the fact this show has not a tenth the quality of GoT. Its an above average fantasy show at best, when GoT was nearly the best show ever for a full five seasons. So yea I enjoy these videos MUCH more than the actual show and after giving season 2 a chance and having Rhanaera or however you spell her name was so awful I just couldnt..the terrible unthought out plot points are endless..these videos are 100% a just reflection of what the show is giving you. Minus one good actor..who apparently has been baniahed twice in two seasons 😂. Just like the other spin off book I read about Egg and knight it just wasnt anything compared to ASOIAF..idk maybe the HotD books arent as bas as the show.
I think you were a bit overcritical of the battle but i get your just joking around. It's the first dragon battle so i wouldn't expect professional tactics, and Its family vs family and most of them are running more on an emotional response than rational. Also i don't think you would be able to hear much other than wind flying high on a dragon not even thuds from Vhagar. There is also no shot of Vhagar acting flying off likely just using momentum to jump toward the castle and take a break out of sight (too much for grandma). It was clear that Rhaenys was acting out of emotion and Melys kept looking at her like "are you sure you want to do this?" and both got caught off guard from the resting Vhagar.
That's very generous of you towards the show. I think you're putting more effort into these ideas than the writers and choreographers did combined. I'd argue that, if your life depends on it, you'd make sure to manouver in the most beneficial way possible to win the fight, and no one did, except Vhagar, because big. They've all been flying their dragons for years (especially Rhaenys), so manouvering should at least be attempted. I'll also add that Rhaenys has been built up as someone who puts a lid on her emotions throughout the entire show, so I don't imagine she'd jump headlessly into a fight she knows she can't win, throwing her own and Maelys' life away to no avail. What do you think?
@@CultureVultureMedia1100% correct. Sad she also died to the big dragon appearing out of nowhere like the smol dragon and the kid. 😂 I was seriously frustrated and saw it all happen 10 minutes before it happened.
So interesting point; "We're off to battle again, old girl." In the books, Meleys and Rhaenys were also mentioned to be "no stranger to battle" but there was never an explicit mention of them ever fighting in any named conflict; the only scenario I imagine would be if she partook in the Stepstones or in early Dornish incursions but there was never any mention of her partaking in those battles. Either a mistake GRRM made and forgot to include, or there was some unknown or implied skirmish they partook in prior. My headcanon is she assisted in the Stepstones as it makes the most sense IMO.
That all happened in season 1, but she was never part of it. She was between Driftmark and King's Landing back then. You do the show an undue service by generously filling in the gaps, but there's nothing in the show to make up for this inconsistency, as far as I'm aware :)
Correct I’m just stating its the same oopsie as in the books where theres this one off handed mention of them going to battle but the pair are never actually mentioned in a battle scene prior to Rooks Rest lol

Interesting. I quite like Daemon's consciencecatching up with him. Not sure this is the time for it, but ok. Also Matt Smith is somehow carrying this show despite being away from all the action haha
God bro, the fight was cool but so badly written everything that happened was so obvious. The aemond trap/ambush, aegon going and dying, her going back to attack the big dragon and going back again to get ambushed by a giant dragon playing wack a mole behind a castle. She literally died the same as the young kid brother did. Big dragon appearing out of nowhere and snapping the dragon in half 😂😂 customs and action 9/10 writing 2/10 gave me brain damage.
Anyway the only one really winning this war is Damon. He killed the crabby guy who lives with SpongeBob under the sea. He secured the biggest castle in the river lands. He raised an army. He’s restoring herrenhal which if completed and manned can only be attacked by dragons of which he has his own and can send for more from dragonstone. Heck if you look at the family tree and they don’t veer from it he’s going to win anyway: let’s get on with it. More action that makes sense and less talking and plotting.
It was ridiculous that after the king fell she did not return to dragonstone. The one advantage the rightful queen has is fighting dragons. She could have returned, reported all that had happened and sent the fighting dragons to kings landing with the usurper king dead or back to rooks and taken out Aemon. Instead she dies needlessly, gives up their biggest fighting dragon and breaks the sea snakes heart. What was the point of her clear suicide as that last turn she clearly knew she couldn’t win. Had she returned they would have saved her, the biggest dragon, successfully killed the king and would be in an even more advantageous position. How does this not occur to her? Did she just want to die and if that was the case why didn’t she roast all the Hightower’s and the usurpers when she had the chance. She literally had everyone of consequence right in front of her and could have uttered one word and there would be no dispute for the crown. I do not understand what motivates her at all! Her death was pointless and just made it even harder for the rightful queen to win.
