It's a shame song writers give their songs to people who they know can make them the most money, if they took a chance on other artists we might have different styles of music rather than over produced pop songs like the original
your point is invalid in this situation. Katy wrote this song. She is the one who had the idea after hearing the beat. She does not make over produced songs. its part if the effects, e.g look at the music video. that's the reasons for covers like these.

Maybe not. As an artist, it's a great feeling when you've inspired someone else to cover your song, especially since Cher gave it a different spin. Plus, it would have also been nerve wracking for Cher, knowing that Katy would be watching!
