Courtney was a couple of years below me at school and was friends with the younger brother of one of my friends, so I used to see him around the place. Tall, skinny, pretty quiet and unassuming, you never would've known he was going to turn out to be one of England's greatest players of the modern era, if not of all time. Absolute legend, hero of a player and by all accounts still a proper good bloke. Big up Courts 👊
No one can question how good he is at putting in big hits but his ability to track back and tackle players on a break is what is most impressive to me.
Great video. You saved the best till last! I remember watching that hit on Plisson live on TV... what a moment! Lawes has been my hero since then. Shame we don't still have Brian Moore's commentary too.
When he announced his retirement from England, i was wondering who would fill in his shoes, looks like Chandler Cunningham South might ( btw I am NOT comparing the two ) I will always remember his HUGE hit on Jules Plisson during the 2015 Six Nations.
CCS might be he has a long way to go. Better hands would be a good start followed by stronger breakdown work. Lawes at the end of his career was great at the breakdown
@@LaChartre I really wish the best for Nick Isiekwe, but I have not seen any stand-out X-factor action from him (for England, at least) - what am I missing LaChartre?
Not an England fan by any stretch of the imagination but I always had nothing but respect and admiration for Courtney Lawes. One of the best forwards I've seen and it looks like he's a humble and down to earth intelligent person.
Has Courtney ever been red carded for a high shot? I’m fairly sure he never has, which given who tall he is, shows it’s perfectly possible to tackle hard and low but people choose not to
I'm not sure about that. Surely if it was a matter of choosing, everybody would choose to tackle legally instead of getting sent off and lose the match for their teams? It takes supreme athleticism, technique, insticts and discipline to consistently tackle hard but fair like that. Not everyone can be an all-timer like he is.
@@matthew3078 there was a David flatman stat in the 2018/19 season which I’m not sure how accurate it is since but he’d only ever been penalised for a high tackle one and that was on his Northampton debut!
@@AndrewDavidFordeHe’s talking about the thumbnail: it looks like it says Hitler because of the way the writing is placed behind the picture of Courtney.
Ledge. 🤘. I'm not a particular fan of the overly zealous tackle laws, but for any player, pundit or fan arguing players can't go low enough to tackle around the waist, if big Courts can - at 9'6" tall, then anyone can. Maybe apart from Snyman who's 11'16" tall to the top of his mo'.
@adamnutley600 Yes overhyped, like 95% of English players. Who are average at best but glorified by bias media outlets. Mediocre teams like Wales, Scotland, Italy, Australia etc would love lawes in the side but quality teams like sout Africa, France, Ireland and nz he wouldn't be a water boy
@RollinRoadblock the funny thing is, Lawes was actually underrated for years. It's only been towards the end of his career that people have appreciated how good he actually was. You seem quite unnecessarily angry about this

@ he’s got the height, he’s got the physique, and time on his side - only 26.
We can hope!
Whenever we had both Courtney Lawes and Manu Tuilagi in the starting line up I was always confident.
Misplaced confidence as it transpires
@1unsung971 Not really. Reached the 2019 world cup final, finished third in the 2023 world cup and won the Six Nations in 2016, 2017 and 2020.
That tackle on Bastaraud. I'll bet that nobody one else ever sat him down like that.

Questionable thumbnail lad
Oh, "HITTER"!
You could make a video of a similar length about his crucial turnovers. An amazing player.
8:06 "is he committed?"... yes Brian, he is ALWAYS committed!
great player - I hope he is in consideration for the Lions tour to Australia.
Watching Kwagga Smith's attempt to strong arm at 2:44... He must have thought he was up against someone else, that arm crumples!
Truly one of Englands greatest
Best tacklers I've seen:
1. Dussatoir
2. Lawes
3. Hooper
4. Pocock
5. Burger
Not Pocock, he shone far more at the breakdown. Arguably would say Underhill, based on technique, PSDT potentially also
Jerry Collins, Manu Tuilagi and Duane Vermeulen.

Practically every tackle on a forward is a 2 man tackle. He needs help to smash forwards pocock makes this guy look like an amateur 😂
I don't think he needs help, there just happens to be another tackler there and in all cases, Lawes is the one making the effective hit.
@adamnutley600
Doesn't need help, just always there for the big hits on forwards 🙄
Another player overhyped by English media outlets.
@RollinRoadblock overhyped, but shits on any Australian second row from the last 20 years
