Lots of inspiration from Steinbeck in Mumford and Sons as well. The whole notion of being "east of eden," our separation from our maker (who M&S tell us in other songs that we were made to meet) because of our rebellion after the fall.

I remember the morning I got the call my grandpa had passed away. It was devastating. My grandma had finally just been reunited with him and this was the first song that came on when I went to go see him and I felt it spoke to them and their relationship and once he was with her he was ready to go.
