Was 5 years old.. living across the Hudson river
I love watching these kinds of videos, makes me feel like I have gone back in time
technically we can go back in time with Webb telescope if we had a mirror on the other side or some how to reflect the telescope. we could zoom in and see in the past ....possibly even send messages that would affect the future. I believe it is possible
I remember 1982 & '83 so well.
Back then, the future looked bright...
And now I'd like to go back to forty years ago.
In 1983, I was 8 years old and playing on a Rep Basbeall Team. I remember the big old cars, like you see in this video. My Dad would drive me to, and pick me up from baseball practice; but I could never close his car door. Those old cars were so heavy that I had to ask my father to get out of the car and close my door side for me. I haven't seen my DAD in almost a decade and this video made me think about my time spent with him as a child. God, I miss the 1980s. The best decade ever.
Obviously i wouldn't know the back story but as a kind suggestion from a stranger, maybe give the old man a call to see how he's doing, after all time is finite for us.
Hello, I live on the west coast of South America in Chile, and my uncles had those big cars made in the United States, in the 70's and 80's. They were nicknamed "boats" because of their length and breadth. They were very difficult to park in the city, due to the large space they needed.
The streets in my country are of European standard, they are not as wide as in North America, and those vehicles did give a headache when looking for space to park, in addition to consuming a lot of gasoline. Everything meant that in the 80's Asian and European cars were marketed in Chile because they were smaller, less fuel consumers and easier to park due to their dimensions.
It funny you say you couldn't close the doors. I couldn't press the door button with my thumb on the outside
NYC was great through the 80's.
Every neighborhood had it's own identity and flavor.
The one place it all came together, where the rubber met the road was Manhattan and everybody got along. It was great. Starting In the 90's and after 2001, Manhattan became s..t. The character and grit of NYC was gone.
I was working as a messenger back then and one day saw Robin Williams filming the hot dog stand scene for the movie "Moscow on the Hudson". It was just him and 4 other guys. One guy was smoking weed. Everybody every body smoked back then. Walk through any park and 4 or 5 dealers would be trying to sell you weed.
Yea....Me too...The public library at 42nd st and 5th av was one...Bryant Park....lol
@@claudiahansen4938 - Yep. I always use to cop at Madison square park. Speaking of which, I was sitting on a bench there once smoking a doobie with a friend of mine and who comes walking up the path but Ed Koch lol lol lol Talk about paranoia but he was just shaking hands with people. I heard at the Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central park he told the cops not to bust anyone for weed and they didn't.
I was 10 at the time and remember going to NYC with pops in his work truck!!!
Ahh the driving into the city listening to your favorite radio DJ morning show. Imus in the morning, Dan Ingraham, Cousin Brucie, black radio station with Rosko.
What a time to be living in NYC
If i could pick 1 super power it would be time travel
I had just graduated from high school. Feels like yesterday.
The way the camera does a close up of the twin towers at :40 hits hard.
I was a junior in high school when this was filmed. This is the NY I grew up in. Wish I could turn back the clock and re live it.
I also was a junior in high school in 1983. Had a great time going to high school in nyc in 1983
I ❤️NY
This would have been the equivalent of watching an old 1944 b/w clip of NYC in 1983. "Man, that was a long time ago...during World War 2". When you're older, '83 still seems like a modern era compared to your parents/ grandparents era. Funny how that works. A little scary, too.
Before the corporate takeover of the neighborhoods... as soon as we got into the 2000's all of NY's flavor was lost...
😊 che bel filmato, 1983, avevo 21 anni, nel mio armadio avevo un grande poster di Manhattan. Thanks for share 👍💕
I miss canel st, flea market, west Broadway, pearl paint, canel jeans and hardware stores. Now gotten hip
It's changed so much. The skyline today is unrecognizable and the Empire State building is just dwarfed by other buildings in Midtown.
I mean, I wouldn't say dwarfed, the empire state building is still reasonably tall and is the staple for what becomes a supertall and what is shorter than the empire state building. Vanderbilt and hudson 50 are both sitting close to to the empire state building by a few blocks (about 10 in each direction) and honestly its not that big of a difference, at least one can naturally have 102 stories whereas the rest have lengthened floor heights and so top out at an unsavory 80 stories despite being taller than the empire state building. Nordstrom tower is the tallest currently, sits at 98 stories or actually 130.
For sound, just overlay " Every breath you take " by the Police which was a huge hit that year...
Crazy I was conceived summer ‘83 in Brooklyn
I was in the 6th grade. It’s great to see this video. Raphaels Church ❤️
Amazing video.l just love it.l wish I lived in those days.So much struggle and competition was not there.
Add some audio:
"From the top of the Empire State Building, broadcasting at a million Watts, Z100 and the Z-morning Zoo! Here's Hall & Oates with 'Man Eater'.
She only comes out at night.... Ooh here she comes.."
I was 20 wow
Missing the twins...
Like many immigrants I came through NYC. I was there in 1982 and I don't feel old. Stayed couple days and moved to Washington DC.
I don't understand....why 8mm? We already had BetaCam and VHS video cameras in 1983.....
Nice
AWESOME
Very interesting

Those are the sights I seen at 14 going to New York from Philly to stay with family. Now I know I'm an Ole'-Head,,, I can call out every type of car on this video-
Of course, because back then cars were designed to look distinctive. Every car today looks alike, like a jellybean.
Judging from the texture of the film, I would’ve assumed this was a ‘70s film either before my time or while I was a baby instead of something filmed the year I had turned 7.
Hey is it OK if I take your video and make an edit out of it I really love it and I’ll give you credit.

I hope that whomever is filming the highway scenes is not doing the driving .!
More like 73 than 83

Gefährlicher
no es el año 1983, debe ser el año 1973..?!
It's not the year 1983, it must be the year 1973...?!
Son los 80' ... Claro se ve ya un Corolla ó Chevy Nova(2:27) de comienzos de la década.
I had better camcorder than this and it was made in 1981.
Poop poop diddim dahdum wattumchu
Crazy I was conceived summer ‘83 in Brooklyn
It's amazing how something so mundane back in 1983 can be so enjoyable in 2022

I think thats the case given how hard life has become. NYC was hit hard by Covid.
