Everyone hating on autumn has definitely been in the wrong crowd and seen the wrong side of it. When I think autumn, I don't mean and think about Halloween.. All I see and can think about is the colour brown, cozy blankets, amazing smells, light up candles...sooo peaceful...I alse never liked scary things and Halloween in general
All of the things you mentioned are still not appealing for me enough to like this season. My deep dislike against autumn has nothing to do with Halloween as well, because in my country it’s not a big deal. I hate not be able to see the sunlight constantly, wearing tons of clothes on my body to endure the cold and I get sick very quickly when the weather is under 20-25 Celsius. I can’t stand the rain and snow and as a bright colorful person, could not identificate myself with the autumnal color sheme as well. To sum it all up: it is not for everyone. Just like I understand that not everybody like the summer heat I’m living for.

I can only enjoy the summer when I’m at vacation, somewhere at the beach too cool down or living peaceful somewhere on the countryside.. but in the city it’s unbearable; where I live in the city the air is always so bad in summer, it’s humid and especially using public transportation is not a pleasant experience (being all squished together in the metro with hundreds of people, it’s always overfilled so u basically touch them & have to smell their sweat..) + not many green spaces to enjoy the sun. Autumn is peaceful, there’s still sunlight but it’s not too hot (& yet not to cold) so you can work & do basic stuff without sweating. If someone likes the cooler temperature, the falling leaves, the colors of autumn, the warmer clothes, rain and moody weather, these are definitely legitimate reasons to love autumn. Unfortunately I don't belong to this group of people and I feel every year that at the end of August a part of my soul is dying, too. I grew up in Hungary and now I live in the neighboring Austria and I always think summer goes by so fast that I can barely realize it's there and then it's already gone. Probably, because during summer I socialize more and I can generally do more of what makes me happy. And if I can do what I love, time flies. For me summer means the colors I love, the temperature I prefer and the activities I'd always choose. For example, I love it that the sun is up till the later evening hours and the whole day feels longer because of it. My mood improves incredible for the better when the sun is shining and especially, when I'm not freezing. I used to wear pink, purple, sometimes burgundy colors only, I love flowery prints and I would literally never wear black, brown, grey or something like that. I know, I can wear anything at any season and I absolutely do, but in summer I can really wear them without looking inappropriate. I hate to wear tons of clothes, to cover every single part of my body. Cold weather and precipitation are my biggest enemy. While in summer I love to swim, I hate to be wet when I'm not at a swimming pool. So when it's raining or snowing, I wish I could stay at home all day, because holding an umbrella and do my everyday activities in partly wet clothes freaks me out. (Yes, this is the only reason I'm glad for that I was not born and raised in the UK.) When it's dark at around 4 PM, I just wish the day would be over. My energy level is also the lowest in autumn and winter, and, as I also mentioned, I get sick very often due to the cold weather. Between September and May it's literally a survival show for me. I'd rather melt in the heat than freeze. So yeah, this is a summer lover's perspective. Wish I could see autumn through your eyes, but unfortunately, it's not possible. I try every year to like autumn a little bit more without success. Maybe, if I would live somewhere else on the Globe, where the summery weather is more common, I would appreciate autumn, winter and even spring more.
I absolutely disagree. It's possible to find something nice about every season really but it doesn't mean that you will love it. Things you mentioned, I can absolutely do in summer, especially at nights when it's lovely and cosy and I'm not freezing to death. Autumn, for me, is only appealing on pictures, but when you have to wake up at 6 am and go out when it's rainy and gloomy outside, it's not cosy, it's just ugly. Green grass and leaves in spring and summer make me feel alive, autumn colours don't do that for me. That's of course just my opinion but it's okay to actually dislike one season or the other
I am one of those people. Love the cold. As an introvert, night owl, fall weather creates the ambiance I enjoy the most more hours of the day. Plus I adore sweaters and academia wear.

I am the opposite. I really don't like being hot, I hate humidity, I hate the mosquitos/wasps, and I don't think summer fashion is as fun or cute since you can't really layer. But I live in the Midwest where our weather is much more horrible in the summer than the UK. I love that once fall rolls around I can actually open my windows and bundle up if I need to, rather than sweating to death in the summer months. I think UK summer just hits different, and I would like it a lot more if I lived there!

I think in america non eating pumpkins and eating pumpkins are different names. If I remember correctly, in the usa pumpkins - non eating, and SQUASH for eating pumpkins, and in uk and some other western countries they are all called pumpkins! as freddy bought in this video, the decorative only ones were labelled - not for human consumption. different in different countries, very confusing!

I think one of the reasons you don't like autumn as a Brit is that you literally freeze IN your houses and it also constantly feels wet. I don't know if this applies to ALL houses, but I've stayed in quite a few of them and every single one had the same problem. If you have well insulated houses, it's cosy. Depending on where you live, it's not always rainy either, just a bit colder. But yes, some people just prefer summer. Personally, I've never understood that. I like all seasons, but I like summer the least because the horrible heat, the insects, the sweat overshadow all the positive qualities. :D I absolutely dislike the "spooky season" thing though! No 10 horses can bring me near it. xD
I am on this boat. I HATE cold weather and I cannot be bothered with layering. Tights and boots do not appeal to me. I don't feel myself during this season because I end up dressing so drab. So thank you Freddy - I feel seen.

LOL when you live in London is great to love summer, but here in the US when it's 101 degrees at the beginning of June, and you're soaked 5 minutes after being outside, you're pretty much done with summer by the beginning of July.. so yeah, I for one am loving this season when I'm able to take a walk outside, watch the beautiful falling leaves, get myself and VENTI pumpkin spice latte and bake all those beautiful treats with pumpkin and fall spices. To each its own! 🤷♀
Here are my tips as someone who also hates being wet and cold: -A refined cozy lounge wardrobe (thick fluffy socks, oversized knits, chic robes) -A variety of fluffy, warm blankets just for the season -Lighting the fire or collection of unscented candles -switching bedsheets to flannel -bubble baths -cozy fall movies (when Harry met sally, dead poets society, practical magic) -cozy fall reading (north and south by Elizabeth Gaskell) -thanksgiving! I know it’s an American/Canadian holiday but gathering friends and family for a fall feast is delightful. You could pick a weekend and have your pumpkin pie and other warm cozy foods
I’m an autumn lover. I love the cooler temperature, I love the colour of the leaves as they turn from green to brown and red. I love being cosy and wearing jumpers and coats and scarves. I love cosy blankets and my nice warm dressing gowns. I hate summer. I enjoyed the weather we had at the start of October when it was 25c and cool at night - I’d be happy with that all year. I’m not a big fan of summer fashion, I hate how much sunscreen I have to wear, I hate how oily my face goes in summer, I can’t stand public transport in summer either. I actually like the shorter days - not the proper winter days when it’s dark by 3pm, but the ones we have now in October. Funny how we’re all so different 😊
I’m so glad there’s one other person in the world who would prefer an endless summer! I would only make an exception for a cozy Thanksgiving and a *temporary* white Christmas-otherwise, sunshine and warmth forever ☀️

You don't have to waste them! Cut in half, roast for 50min and serve with pasta in the middle, yummm. 😋 I applauded you & Coco for starting from scratch!!!
You can absolutely make pumpkin pie from fresh real pumpkins, but you have to purchase specifically ‘pie pumpkins’, which are sweeter and smaller than any generic pumpkin. That’s what they call them here in the US and you can always find them at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods or farmers markets in autumn, especially around thanksgiving of course. I wouldn’t write off baking pie with fresh pumpkins just yet as I prefer it flavor wise, you just get such a nicer flavor & it just feels like romantic autumn to bake a pie fully from scratch!
I'm the opposite!! I'm Brazilian and I don't like heat at all, but it's all we have!! On the other hand, I love autumn and winter because of the cool weather and golden leaves! My husband and I visited London last year in November on our honeymoon and it was a dream! I love the clothes and the boots and the scarves, everything I can hardly wear here! ☺️✨🍁
Obviously none of you are familiar with the beautiful red and yellow autumn colors that our trees turn in Idaho! This time of year it's usually never rainy or that cold, so we can wear all the comfy fall fashion without having to get too bundled up. No scary movies or Halloween decor for me, just cozy throws, candles and a warm drink 🍁🍂🕯❤

Fall....here in the mountains of Tennessee is a beautiful, many splendored thing. Its downright magical in the mountains, woods and hills. I can see how fall might be a drab thing if one lives in the city like Freddy does. Pavement and buildings don't do fall justice.
Freddy, I completely agree with you on lighting. My chandelier gets turned on two or three times per year. I love the natural light through the windows during the day, then use dimmable lamps early morning and late at night. I did add something a year and a half ago that upped the home feel. I added a LED adhesive light strip to the bottom side (so it lights downward) of my stairway handrail. Most of the time I use the soft white setting. It is dimmable and I can toggle through different colors to match holiday decor. It provides ambient light 24/7 into both the upstairs and downstairs areas. It softens the dark corners of the house. I also no longer have to enter a dark home by myself.
It was so funny listening to you two talk about making pumpkin pie! My mom makes it from an actual pumpkin every year and it's way better than the puree. The trick is, you have to get a specific PIE PUMPKIN. You can't just buy any old pumpkin. There are little ones that are sold specifically for making pies and they are sweeter than the big pumpkins you use for decorating.
I hate the darker days too, and I’m not necessarily a fan of super cold weather. But when you live in Texas and you had weeks of record setting temperatures in the summer, fall does feel like such a relief. Everyone who lives here has been counting down the days to finally not start sweating as soon as you step outside the house 😓 I suppose I might feel differently about it if I lived somewhere else though.

I feel the opposite! My dad always makes fun of me for it, but I call it enjoying being “warm in the cold.” I love cozying up (as long as its not in the negatives) over trying to stay cool in the heat. live in a state in the US where it is RIDICULOUSLY hot in the summer (like, 105 F/40 C is the average summer day.) Spring feels like what summer SHOULD feel like. So I think I’m personally just tired of warm weather 🤣 I don’t mind it getting dark around 5/6PM as I’m kind of a homebody and prefer ending my day early anyway. Though I know for some people, it gets dark as early as 4PM which I would also hate.

LOL when you live in London is great to love summer, but here in the US when it's 101 degrees at the beginning of June, and you're soaked 5 minutes after being outside, you're pretty much done with summer by the beginning of July.. so yeah, I for one am loving this season when I'm able to take a walk outside, watch the beautiful falling leaves, get myself and VENTI pumpkin spice latte and bake all those beautiful treats with pumpkin and fall spices. To each its own! 🤷♀

Here are my tips as someone who also hates being wet and cold:
-A refined cozy lounge wardrobe (thick fluffy socks, oversized knits, chic robes)
-A variety of fluffy, warm blankets just for the season
-Lighting the fire or collection of unscented candles
-switching bedsheets to flannel
-bubble baths
-cozy fall movies (when Harry met sally, dead poets society, practical magic)
-cozy fall reading (north and south by Elizabeth Gaskell)
-thanksgiving! I know it’s an American/Canadian holiday but gathering friends and family for a fall feast is delightful. You could pick a weekend and have your pumpkin pie and other warm cozy foods

I’m an autumn lover. I love the cooler temperature, I love the colour of the leaves as they turn from green to brown and red. I love being cosy and wearing jumpers and coats and scarves. I love cosy blankets and my nice warm dressing gowns. I hate summer. I enjoyed the weather we had at the start of October when it was 25c and cool at night - I’d be happy with that all year. I’m not a big fan of summer fashion, I hate how much sunscreen I have to wear, I hate how oily my face goes in summer, I can’t stand public transport in summer either. I actually like the shorter days - not the proper winter days when it’s dark by 3pm, but the ones we have now in October. Funny how we’re all so different 😊
I’m so glad there’s one other person in the world who would prefer an endless summer! I would only make an exception for a cozy Thanksgiving and a *temporary* white Christmas-otherwise, sunshine and warmth forever ☀️

Fall just gives cottage countryside vibes
You can absolutely make pumpkin pie from fresh real pumpkins, but you have to purchase specifically ‘pie pumpkins’, which are sweeter and smaller than any generic pumpkin. That’s what they call them here in the US and you can always find them at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods or farmers markets in autumn, especially around thanksgiving of course. I wouldn’t write off baking pie with fresh pumpkins just yet as I prefer it flavor wise, you just get such a nicer flavor & it just feels like romantic autumn to bake a pie fully from scratch!

I'm the opposite!! I'm Brazilian and I don't like heat at all, but it's all we have!! On the other hand, I love autumn and winter because of the cool weather and golden leaves! My husband and I visited London last year in November on our honeymoon and it was a dream! I love the clothes and the boots and the scarves, everything I can hardly wear here! ☺️✨🍁

Obviously none of you are familiar with the beautiful red and yellow autumn colors that our trees turn in Idaho! This time of year it's usually never rainy or that cold, so we can wear all the comfy fall fashion without having to get too bundled up. No scary movies or Halloween decor for me, just cozy throws, candles and a warm drink 🍁🍂🕯❤

freddy THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO because i am in midterm hell! this actually helped me a lot because september/october are some of my favourite months because campus is so pretty with autumn leaves and i ADORE halloween but the joy is slowly sucked out of me once the first three weeks of school have passed, and it's awful to be numb and half brain-dead when i want to be enjoying myself. but a freddy video really does the trick!! these vlogs are some of my favourites of the types of videos that you make (second only to travel diaries of course). also you're not alone in candle hatred because i physically gag when i smell the pumpkin spice or sugary candles. i saw someone in the comments recommended darling desi's youtube channel for fall, and i second that!! her videos are actually what have really revived my appreciation for fall in these past couple years :).

Fall....here in the mountains of Tennessee is a beautiful, many splendored thing. Its downright magical in the mountains, woods and hills. I can see how fall might be a drab thing if one lives in the city like Freddy does. Pavement and buildings don't do fall justice.
I'll be honest, I've been listening to Christmas music since the end of September. That's how I'm doing with the seasons changing. :)
Freddy, I completely agree with you on lighting. My chandelier gets turned on two or three times per year. I love the natural light through the windows during the day, then use dimmable lamps early morning and late at night. I did add something a year and a half ago that upped the home feel. I added a LED adhesive light strip to the bottom side (so it lights downward) of my stairway handrail. Most of the time I use the soft white setting. It is dimmable and I can toggle through different colors to match holiday decor. It provides ambient light 24/7 into both the upstairs and downstairs areas. It softens the dark corners of the house. I also no longer have to enter a dark home by myself.
Also your vlogs are the perfect length. Anything over 45 minutes I skip around unless its the before and after vlog of a restored Chateau,

It was so funny listening to you two talk about making pumpkin pie! My mom makes it from an actual pumpkin every year and it's way better than the puree. The trick is, you have to get a specific PIE PUMPKIN. You can't just buy any old pumpkin. There are little ones that are sold specifically for making pies and they are sweeter than the big pumpkins you use for decorating.

I hate the darker days too, and I’m not necessarily a fan of super cold weather. But when you live in Texas and you had weeks of record setting temperatures in the summer, fall does feel like such a relief. Everyone who lives here has been counting down the days to finally not start sweating as soon as you step outside the house 😓 I suppose I might feel differently about it if I lived somewhere else though.

I feel the opposite! My dad always makes fun of me for it, but I call it enjoying being “warm in the cold.” I love cozying up (as long as its not in the negatives) over trying to stay cool in the heat. live in a state in the US where it is RIDICULOUSLY hot in the summer (like, 105 F/40 C is the average summer day.) Spring feels like what summer SHOULD feel like. So I think I’m personally just tired of warm weather 🤣 I don’t mind it getting dark around 5/6PM as I’m kind of a homebody and prefer ending my day early anyway. Though I know for some people, it gets dark as early as 4PM which I would also hate.
