    Why did they cut it down. What a shame.I used to walk past that tree every day going to school in the 1950's.
    Did they rename the bar?

      It stayed the cotton tree as a pub until about early to mid 2000s it is called Hollahans bar now

      @@johnhendrick1808 Thanks for the information. By the way 'Hendrick' if I recall is a good old Enniscorthy name. I remember the butchers shop of that name .

      @@AndreA-ke2id yes you are spot on it was just 3 doors up from the pub. My grandfather owned it still have some old photos of it. You have a great memory

      @@johnhendrick1808 I remember that shop in particular for a very good reason. We lived in one of the bungalows on St Senans. If you're ever over that way its the one with the '1935' circles on the garden walls which was the year it was built by my grandfather and his sons. I believe a retired teacher owns it now. Anyway, my father bought another house in John's St. He was in the middle of having it converted into a shop but unfortunately became ill. It was never done and was put up for sale. It was about 1959/60. I remember vividly holding my mother's hand while she was in the butchers shop. She was talking to a man who then handed her an enormous amount of money, a big stack of big blue £5 notes. It was that man, who I now assume must have been your grandfather, who bought the house from us.

      You have to be right my father grew up in Johns street that was his home house he will be very interested in hearing this story he will be delighted in fact. His name was John Hendrick aswell
