You captured my home town so well. Love calling this home. Great video. Around the 7 minute mark you mentioned the wrought iron porch being reminiscent of New Orleans style architecture. I recently learned that Madison played a large role in making wrought iron for New Orleans. Much of the wrought iron there came from Madison.

That is so interesting to me! Really cool to know because you never know which came first! I love the homes with iron detailing since it’s not something we’ve really come across in other cities. Thanks for the info!

We just visited last weekend and would like to come back in the Fall. Do you know when the best time is to plan a trip?

Loved this video!!! My Grandparents lived in Madison and my grandfather was Mayor in the 70's. We spent many summers in Madison and have always loved this town. He also owned Perry and Davis Drug Store on Main Street. What a walk down memory lane!!!

Another gem of a town, another gem of a video. You guys are showing some great finds. When I see beautiful architecture like you're showing, I always find it hard to leave such a place.

No place like the Midwest! Ahhh so much good precedent for painted brick. I have to say, it does not lessen the beauty of the historic homes there even though a LOT of their buildings are painted!

Love Madison, down from the Courthouse, was a taxi stand my dad use to work at, next door was a bakery that my grandfather, and uncle worked at. There was a furniture store there next to the bakery an alley ran between it and the courthouse, across the street was the JC food store, my grandmother and mother shopped at. Always loved Christmas time when little and running to all the different stores shopping my favorite was the five and dime. OH and HINKLES HAMBURGERS are the best...

The settlement of this area was influenced by the Ohio river and the post revolutionary war land rush. According to early land office records, many who came early to madison were originally from the Carolina low-country. This area was not settled so much by new englanders (and their culture) who tended to flow due-west into new york, michigan, wisconsin, ohio. Whereas the original southern colonies, which had a very different political and social orientation, tended to flow westward along established routes, notably the mighty ohio rivers. This helps explain the noticeable differences in architecture and development.

Excellent presentation! I'm doing the cross-country road trip soon (from Seattle) and have been doing a lot of research on towns I might want to visit and Madison now is right near the top of the list. Your vid really shows all the interesting architecture. Thanks! P.S. Who's that music at 5:40?

Today I saw the travelog of Madison, IN, on Chris Harder's program on UA-cam. He mentioned a movie about a boating competition being filmed in Madison, but he apparently did not know about "Some Came Running" (starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Shirley McLaine, Martha Hyer, Larry Gates, and Arthur Kennedy) that was filmed there in 1958. There also is a TV documentary about a cast reunion being filmed there with local people sharing their experiences of meeting the celebrities in the film. People interested in Madison, IN, should see both of these films.

I was born in Madison so I enjoyed your video. However....constructive criticism ahead. Just my opinion, wrong choice of repetitive music. Editing a little too fast paced for me. Sound was up and down annoyingly on my end. On the plus side, nice drone footage, good research and knowledge of architecture. Keep doing it, don't try too hard to copy other's styles. Be yourselves, do your best and people will watch or they won't. Good luck!
