Mine is noisy in the 1st to 7th gear. This is due to the last reduction sage which is engaged in the first 7 gears. The noise should become less after first few 1000 km
You can hear it, it's going uphill. Gears 1-7 do sound like this, 8 and up are silent. Characteristic of a "geradverzahnter Primärtrieb", don't know the englisch expression for it, sorry.

Mine is the same and it's brand new. I'm running mine on a recumbent trike and the sound is amplified through the frame I think.
