Man, I remember when I first discovered Red Flag I knew I was hearing something special & everytime I revisit Naive Art, that feeling comes rushing back. Thanks Red Flag & all the fans who keep their music alive!🎶🕺🏼🕺🏻🎶
"Russian Radio" was a recurring greatest hit in the 90s at dance parties in Rio de Janeiro - especially at the suburbs. Thanks for post the original version.
Omg.Finally the REAL Naive Art album! Not that Special Edition. For years I search by original Russian Radio or original full album and finally I founded it. Very Thanks!
The CD with same artwork that I have is possibly marked "Special Edition" (it's stored away so can't check) but only difference I hear is Give Me Your Hand is extended (not remixed, just goes on longer) and All Roads Lead to you is significantly different version. The rest seems the same from memory. I think there were additional tracks on CD, too. They later released Naive Dance remix album (I have CD, too). Red Flag switched record labels at a point and Naive Art was re-released, so changes might have been made then.
@@ShallRemainUnknown first of all song Russian Radio is original mix, most likely everybody search for it. Special Edition includes extended version more dance oriented. Give Me Your Hand sounds like an absolutely different take. I see that original album was released expanded and remastered in 2020. That's a nice thing to put hands on.
@@vinyltogether I researched more online, and I have original Naive Art CD from Enigma, not the later Special Edition by Restless. The original CD has extra remixed tracks in addition to the originals, however, even though the track running times for the common tracks are listed as the same between CD & vinyl, the two tracks I previously mentioned are definitely different in that regard. Yes, you'd figure with the recent resurgence in retro '80s synthpop, Naive Art is ripe for re-release.
Literally just discovered this band tonight! So freakin' awesome! Like some love child of early Depeche Mode and 90's Cause & Effect. The lead singer sounds just like a young Dave Gahan. GREAT STUFF!
Red Flag predates Cause & Effect by a bit, first album released earlier, and I believe Red Flag claims to have formed in 1984. There's an interview with them in December 1988 issue of MCS Music Computers & Software magazine. (Debbie Gibson interview in same issue! 😅)
Eu tive uma fita cassete gravada desse álbum. Gostava tanto de Russian Radio e Count To Three que procurei um amigo DJ pra gravar pra mim. Red Flag era uma banda muito boa, merecia ter feito mais sucesso.
Thank you! Impulse buy....black and translucent red reissue. Don't regret at all. Original CD is lost on old boxes from 30 years ago. Your copy sounded fantastic!
Its so very Roland D50, Yamaha DX7, Roland R8, AKAI S700, and so on… But I like it! I remember when this album came out! I had all their equipment in my studio, and also a Roland Jupiter 6, a Jupiter 8, an AKAI S1000, a Yamaha CX5, an Emulator II, and an Oberheim OBXa! There was also a Sequetial Cirquits Six Track, an ELKA EK77, a Roland TR808, TR909, TR707, TR727, Roland MRC 700, a PPG Waveterm, and a CASIO CZ 1000! A massive MIDI/CV-Gate stack! A Roland syncronizer/tuner, and of course a 70:ties Vocoder!
I decided to write a complete album guide (besides Naïve Art) as I was asked to recommend tracks from other albums. And I was very inspired to remember the music. It is always an adventure! The Lighthouse album is absolutely essential, chillout work sounding something like Sade or Enigma, album with long instrumental sections that is impossible for charts and fantastic to true listeners. Highlights: Inner Sea, Shame on the Moon (MG-type ballad), Cry Me a River, My Love (oh, that synth solo is brilliant!), In My Dreams, Things We Say (12.48!). Caveat Emptor is more dark with hints of De/Vision and Mesh. Highlights: Sundown, Hollow, Love Lacks Gravity, Cliché, Nevermind Http (quite a PSB song), Collide, Layin Low. The Crypt already arrives to EBM area, very straightforward and industrially powerful. Highlights: Curtains, For the Dark, L.O.V.E., Goodbye (very Martin Gore-ish track, my fav), Tiktok. The Eagle and Child is similar, but less industrial, even with new wave motives: Disarray (De/Vision-ish), Time (quite Camou), The Game (too), Synthpopalooza, Illumination, Deeper Shade of Blue (Meshy). Fear of a Red Planet is my personal fav for space theme and this one should be listened in whole (they all should be...), it is quite depressive work. Lowlights (;-): I am the Wind, Live Fast Die Pretty, Lullaby for a Restless Girl, Mathematics of Tears (DM 83-84), Fear of a Red Planet, Coda Concerto. Codebreaker T133 is a move to futurepop with all attributes: distorted vocals, technogenic themes. Listen: Eternal Flame, Shadow Warrior, Never Leave, Hard Times for Dreamers, Fallen Angel, Talk About the Future. The Bitter End is the last one with both brothers, looks like they knew already. Album is a return to the sound of 90s, but much more disturbed. Also they've collected so many styles here, it reminds of many songs from all genres. Listen: A Life Worth Living, The Pyramid Song (perfect A23-type anthem!), One Plus One (reminds Joy hahaha!), The Map of Her Heart, The Bitter End (Alphaville-ish, final beauty!). Born Again is really an album like a phoenix born from hell. So angry and darkly beautiful! Only the first words are so powerful: "You're in heaven, I'm in hell!". Darklights: Born Again, Doom & Gloom, Last Call for Love, Satin Gown, Wonderful, Twisted, Torn, Wait Here for Me. Time is the Reaper is mostly thematically a continue of previous one, but not so angry, rather softer technogenic futurepop and danceable techno. Highlights: Halo, Once Past Twice Future, Let It Begin, Misery Loves Company (between Camou and And One), My Door is Open, Maybe This Maybe is Gone (old school 94s Red Flag), Sinister, Like a Prisoner. Serenity is the most futuristic and smooth futurepop work with all that groundbreaking beats and mellow melodies (see Assemblage 23, Colony 5, Code 64, etc.). Some tracks are reinvented in this style. Highlights: Oxygen, Once Again, Serenity, Mockingbird, Halo, Doom & Gloom, Beyond Hereafter, Maybe This Maybe is Gone, Fadeaway, Can't Escape Forever. Endless marks a return to very soft style of 90s Red Flag. It is more calm and thoughtful, outworldish deadly beats and hellish melodies are not here anymore. Highlights: Endless, Back to the Beginning, The Nights Eternity, Vanished, Not for Gold (personal fav), Mask, We'll Never Die. After listening this album some days ago (May 2021) I think it is quite balanced in terms of dynamics and listens very interesting in whole like a theater play, but it lacks a little in quality of sounds and effects IMO. But melodically and thematically it is very professional work.
