I don't know much about other instruments, but as a drummer I feel like the opening sets up the rest of the song's dynamic very well. It's the quiet guitar part just after the opening that feels out of place in my opinion
The reason it sounds "out of time" is because of the time signature. Try counting "1, 2, 3, 4" like you can with most pop songs, it doesn't fit. The drums are perfectly in time with the time signature, and they're played amazingly well.

the intro drums sounds so great but it doesn't fit the rest of the piece .. I like the piece though. :D very clear recording!
