- Maayong Buntag:
The two phrases in the chorus of Maayong Buntag are in different Filipino dialects. The first, 'maayong buntag', is in Bisaya, and means 'good morning'. The second, 'mahal kita', is Tagalog for 'I love you', but apparently is broadly used across the Philippines.
These are the first two phrases I was taught by Jackie in a period when we were both leaving China, but with the plan of being together in the future. Those plans are coming together... If you're interested in that, I'll update in the comments!
Connor and I are currently working on a full production of the song too and it's really exciting!
Maayong Buntag (Bob Burke, 2022)
I love the way you hold me, wrapped in this embrace
Secure we’ll be together in another place, and you’ll say
"Maayong buntag - mahal kita
Maayong buntag - mahal kita"
I love the way you speak to me - words that soothe my soul
Caressing my existence and making me feel whole, when you say
"Maayong buntag - mahal kita
Maayong buntag - mahal kita"
I love the way you love me- The way that we collide
Beyond any doubt I know I belong here by your side, so I say
"Maayong buntag - mahal kita
Maayong buntag - mahal kita"
I love the way we dream and picture days to come
When we can be together, a of us as one, and we’ll say
"Maayong buntag - mahal kita
Maayong buntag - mahal kita"
Love it Bob 🖤
Thanks Lucas!
