    I love the contrast between this and the first songs. It's like he went through the whole album and came to some kind of catharsis and is able to
    perform this song without any aggravators

      dmtsymphony I was 14, pushing 15. I was a big Tubeway Army/Gary Numan fan at the time. My older sister who was 17 at the time gave me the money to go and buy "Scary monsters album" on my way home from school, as it was on the route. I remember hearing the opening of "It's no game pt1" and was blown away. I ended up listening to the full album with my sister and was converted immediately to Bowie⚡. Luckily for me, she already owned ALL the albums previous to then. How lucky I was to be able to dig into all that vinyl! The original albums.. Now the re-release of the Bowie albums are £20.00 upwards and they are really thick vinyl these days. Vinyl was ALWAYS best IMO! The artwork, lyrics, Gatefold covers etc. CDMA and cassettes ain't the same. As for download? Such an empty experience! I am so glad I kept those albums. The Ziggy motion picture soundtrack is BETTER on its original release in 84 compared to the Tony Visconti remix that came out on CD on the 40th Anniversary?!.Anyway... I think I have gone on a bit! 😱. BOWIE Rocks forever! ⚡ 🌟

However, I appreciate how brilliant and unique they are. Only the great ones produce music that NEVER ages! Of course David Jones was one of them. #RIPStarman #Ziggy4Ever

    A real landmark album - a bridge- what had been and for what was to come. There was something in that restless mind of his. In 1980 he had collected it.

    • @markrago5338
      @markrago5338 4 роки тому +2

      I'd consider it more a destination, this is where David really achieved putting his personal stamp on music. The Berlin trilogy was a trial of sorts, experimentation to perfect the merging of genres he is famous for.

    • @pepesilvia429
      @pepesilvia429 3 роки тому +1

      @@markrago5338 that and after this album, Bowie seemed kind of bored with making masterpieces, opting for a much more experimental and diverse than most would expect (who thought Bowie would do industrial thriller rock and jungle music?). Scary Monsters is his most complete work though, it feels like somethign he needed to get out, pretty much every song on there is inspired.

    • @robtyman4281
      @robtyman4281 3 роки тому +2

      I know Bowie was mentally shattered after Scary Monsters, as he'd also gone through a divorce, but I always think it was a big shock from Scary Monsters to Let's Dance. An album in between these two would have softened the blow somewhat.....an album that had elements of both Scary Monsters AND Let's Dance in it.
      That would have been great, but as I said he needed a break after Scary Monsters, and no one can begrudge him for that.

    • @danw1374
      @danw1374 3 роки тому +1

      I always looked at scary monsters as having more in common with Lodger. Lodger was part of the so called "Berlin trilogy" but its nothing like Low or Heroes. You can sort of get some idea of where Bowies mind was at.

    • @comeupandseememakeme
      @comeupandseememakeme 2 роки тому +2

      @@bigjim5450 Totally disagree. I use that term and it means something. It usually means that one record where the stars aligned and everything gelled just right. That one record that is the best showcase of that artist (or bands) work. The one record they did that is five star and it is usually their most popular record and usually comes sort of mid-way in their career. I would call the Joshua Tree U2's Sargent Peppers or the same for Roxy Music's Avalon or Radio Head's OK Computer. MHSTW is a brilliant record but doesn't make that cut. With Bowie he was so prolific another record Ziggy Stardust could make that cut but I think Scary Monsters is the clear winner with him for that one record that was the most brilliant the best showcase of his talent and creativity.

      @subscape3032 4 роки тому +4

      I can't confirm exactly but I've always thought the opening effects of "It's No Game (No. 1)" is the start of the studios reel to reel tape machine, capturing Bowie's angst as he begins his journey over the LP, finishing at "It's No Game (No. 2)" with the tape coming to the end. The sound at the end being the tape whipping the full spool, rather like an old projector. Perhaps it symbolises the start and end of a cathartic journey for Bowie with this LP ? Just my thoughts anyway !

      Its the reel to reel tape recording machine. When you come to the end of the reel the tape comes out the original reel and onto the other one (The full reel which is the recording) the sound is the end of the tape flapping as it spins around.

      @@sidneypasquarelli2122 …….Diamond Dogs is one of his overlooked BEST albums. His vocals o that album were off the chart showing his amazing range. Scary Monster is up there in his top 5, Low.....is simply BRILLIANT....but you've every right to be wrong :)
